Lamata Concrete

Very happy that I contracted Lamata Concrete to concrete my small front yard, a pie shaped lot. Tevita is a very nice gentleman, listens to his customer's stated needs, provides suggestions to how the overall project can be done and then after agreement, sets out with his work crew and completes the project in a timely manner and to my satisfaction. Tevita impressed me so much that I immediately ask him to do a much bigger concrete slab project in my back yard. He measured the size of the project and give me a quote for the project that was very reasonable. I will use him whenever I need concrete work done and will offer my recommendation to any friends or neighbors seeking concrete work!

I would have given ZERO stars. Don't trust their overall YELP rating. I made that mistake. I feel the finished work (driveway, pathways, and wall) are reasonably acceptable. This is ONLY because we checked daily work and instructed them to fix mistakes and sloppy work. They spent a lot of their time redoing what should have been completed right the first time. Daily progress (or lack there of) showed us that the owner/project manager (Tevita/Mata) is not a good project manager nor that he gave his crew clear direction on this project.

The process after contract signing was horrible...not at all professional. The project took much longer than Tevita initially quoted (over 2 months vs the 2 weeks he originally told us). This resulted in change orders and cost overruns. He also tried to charge me to fix their breakage/mistakes/errors (e.g., fixing the sidewalk his workers broke).

His crew was not respectful of our property (we had to live with their mess...it's not a vacant lot). They did not regularly clean up the work site nor organize equipment and materials left onsite. Seeing their lunch garbage (cans, bottles, wrappers, etc.) at the end of their workday was common. This continued even after repeated complaints to Tevita and to his crew.

No one on site could to provide straight answers as to that day's work or when specific project goals would be completed. Whenever I would spoke with him, Tevita made excuses, provided misinformation, denied deliverables he previously promised, and deflected from answering direct questions. He has a habit of talking over the customer when asked questions he doesn't like. On at least one occasion, he raised his voice and started yelling to avoid answering questions. If it was not in writing, he'd say it wasn't what we discussed. I have never had such issues when working with professional/reputable companies.

Tevita and his crew failed to meet every single deliverable date he set. I found him very difficult to work with. I feel that he does not show proper respect to the customer. Instead he appears to think that the customer, the person paying him, should accept subpar work. I suspect that he may also not fully understand the processes involved with the work being performed.

I feel that Tevita and Lamata Concrete are not professional. They didn't use professional equipment and they didn't manage the job site or their onsite work time professionally. Their workers typically started late morning and were gone by early afternoon.

Lamata Concrete has major logistical problems. They couldn't get an adequately-sized crew or required materials to the job site at the start of any given day, typically interrupting workflow for hours to go fetch supplies. Had they staged materials and tools at the worksite (where there was ample area to store all materials needed for the entire project) and had his crew worked a full 8 hours per day at the job site, I believe they could have finished weeks ago.

They are SLOW...3 weeks for a stamped concrete driveway and pathways. I definitely CANNOT recommend them for a cinder block wall. It took way too long (over 2 months) to complete. I feel like they have never built this type of wall.

I regret hiring Lamata Concrete. I CANNOT recommend Lamata Concrete nor would I use them again. They were such a hassle to work with compared to the many other professional/reputable companies I have hired. My opinion...take their negative YELP reviews seriously and ask for references and talk to those references.

Tevita's response is a great example of how he makes excuses, provides misinformation, denies promised deliverables, and deflects from addressing the real issue. I find it a bit childish and very unprofessional.

We hired Lamata to tear out a side lawn and pour an extension to our driveway. We did most of our communication over Yelp, getting the quote and settling on a price. The workers came early in the morning to start work on excavating, leveling, and laying rebar. Mata came by to discuss the work and some additional work that needed to be added on, such as a drain and removing an old piece of concrete to repair it. Mata was very friendly and knowledgeable. His guys worked fast and had all prep work done within an afternoon. Mata informed us he would try to get on the schedule for a cement truck but was unable to so he decided to have his guys hand mix and pour. They showed up on a Monday and got right to work, mixing and pouring around 500 sq feet of concrete. They worked for about 12 hours. They came the next day to clean up and do the finish work. All in all, the whole process was less than a week. We made sure to stay in contact via text with Mata during the whole process.

90' section of hundred-year-old broken up driveway removed and replaced very quickly by Lamata Concrete. Crew was very polite and professional and respectful of the property during the process, completing and cleaning up afterwards. Highly recommended!

This business responded to my yelp estimate request for repaving a parking lot saying "$55K". I yelp messaged them twice, emailed them twice, call them twice and left voice mail asking them for a written estimate outlining what they are going to do for $55K. I receive No response. I finally called again and spoke to the owner. He told me that a written estimate will be $150.00. I ask if there is any guarantee on the work, he said
"concrete crack, asphalt crack, the earth move we can't guarantee.... blah blah". Let's just say it was not a pleasant conversation.

I am not going to hire this company. I have gotten FREE WRITTEN estimate from other companies that are very pleasant to communicate with and responsive. eg: All American paving, Calvac paving, CDM Asphalt..

This is not a review on Lamata workmanship, but my experience dealing with them just trying to get an estimate.

Mata and the crew did an amazing job. Highly recommended. Built a concrete foundation for my Tuff Shed. Very happy with the results.

The will take your money and never complete the work. They have changed their business name several time to avoid bad reviews. They have several unpaid judgments against them.

Quick estimate, fair price, and was able to begin the job quickly. We added several items to the original job with Tevita's suggestion and I'm glad we did. He was more than willing to work with me on price and scope.

I would say that his and his crew's forte is concrete work; my new retaining walls and concrete driveway are beautifully crafted. Also his drainage work - excellently connected my downspouts to underground drains.

I had also asked him to put a slurry seal on my asphalt driveway and to rebuild a fence.

While concrete work would get a "A" grade, I'd give their slurry seal/fence work a B.

These guys did a great job. They figured out what color I had existing and matched it very closely. I'd hire them again.

I just had the best conversation with these guys. I called trying to get a quote to install concrete floors in my loft.

The good news is they really knew what they were talking about. We had a very productive, open, honest conversation about my project. They just seemed so knowledgeable and within a very short time discovered the bad news.

My loft won't support concrete flooring. UGH!

I am so upset because this is EXACTLY the type of guy I like to do business with. Open, honest and knowledgeable. I have called so many other companies and wasn't able to get these kind of direct answers.

He was able to assess things quickly by asking some specific questions and looking at a few photos I sent him.

The only bad thing I can say is I am upset I can't use them.
