Los Chavos Mexican Restaurant & Cantina

Los Chavos is probably the best Mexican restaurant in the West End, but that's a low bar. The tacos are authentic, although my Pastor was hardly the rich succulent marinated pork from the most authentic places. The quesadilla is non-traditional, but tasty, with its sautéed vegetables. Guacamole was excellent, chips okay. The highlight was the Classic Lime Margarita, which was expertly made, and about as good as it gets. Kudos to the bartender, who was also our server.

Bar seating & several table booths. More of a drinking establishment vibe in my opinion. Staff did the bar minimum. Sat us down, took our orders and brought us our food then quickly brought the bill so they could change tables over.

The Margarita here was excellent. Definitely felt like a strong boozey drink. Well done!

Tried their Chilaquiles - not sure what I was expecting but this was more nachos than anything else. Definitely not the best in the city either.

Maiz De Cole - strangely the best option that I selected. The chilli, lamb, cilantro just went so well. Great light option if you need one. Definitely not better than a good Mexican street corn though.

Birria Taco - wanted to like this but didn't leave much to be desired. Large portions of protein Ordered the extra Birria as my date also wanted this. Looking back, should have stuck with the single order. It was way too much birria protein which after a few bites became overly dry and lacked flavour.

Carnitas Tacos - come in a order of 2. Better option for smaller appetites.

Overall, felt a bit steep in price. Their website online doesn't even post prices yet.

This place is so fu*%ing good from top to bottom. Excellent find hiding on Denman. Cant wait to go back.

The mezcal margarita's are amazing. I tried the bruc o mush and the veggie burrito and surprisingly for a traditionally meat-y cuisine, they were both very delicious, especially the burrito.
I think this will be my go to place for a weeknight drink and chill too, specially given their happy hour prices!

We had the best time and food at this small restaurant. The lime margaritas are amazing and the tacos were some of the best I've ever had! If I lived in Vancouver I'd come all the time! The servers were great as well.

Found this place on our visit to Vancouver. I highly recommend it, food was great service was wonderful.

Very welcoming super nice. As a Mexican myself I felt very welcomed and tasted very at home. The taste the ingredient are all top notch. The main chef even checked on us and was a very good conversation. From America but id easily make the drive back for this place!!!

Overall not a great experience. The food was just ok, lacked flavour and portions were small. Unfortunately we won't be back.

We had a delightful lunch. The menu is quite varied and the dishes prepared individually with care. It is a fine introduction to the astonishing variety of Mexican cuisine.
The service was personal, friendly and attentive.
The central feature of the ambiance is what looked like a well-stocked bar. It being the national day of Mexico, we each had an excellent marguerita in celebration.

Had dinner at Los Chavos last night. Highly recommend. Great drinks and food. Friendly staff and owners. If you love Mexican food, and even if you haven't tried it before, a great spot for a lunch or an evening.
