Don't let this hole-in-the-wall eatery fool you. Despite it's mediocre decor, you'll be blown away by their delicious authentic Cantonese soul food dishes! My faves are their razor clams in XO sauce, fresh oysters served on the half shell, and fresh lobster. It's a good idea to call ahead to make reservations if you plan to dine there during dinner hours...especially on the weekends....as this place is ALWAAAAAYS FULLY PACKED during dinner hours!

I bet everyone has a "go-to" restaurant on their list when they actually don't know where to go for a quick bite, Lucky Joy is my "go-to" joint!
I can't even remember how long we have been dining at this restaurant, must be at least over 25 yrs!! Ya scary right? But throughout the years (even though they changed hands once) the food is still honest, no hassle kind of dependable food, consistency has always been their strong point here!
This is also my go-to takeout restaurant whenever I have renovations or anything that would prevent me from using my own kitchen.
So what do you say about the food? Good portion, reasonable price and fast service! Free parking at the strip mall (by the way LA Chicken is right next door!) Lucky Joy is like an old friend that would not say no to you whenever you need an extra hand!Helpful 31Thanks 0Love this 33Oh no 0 - Dec 30, 2019
This is a hole in the wall type neighborhood family style restaurant. Super crowded with mediocre service. The food was authentic with sizable portion. Decent price and Kid friendly.
It's good to try if you are in the neighborhood. We had honey garlic ribs, pea vines and lobster. We enjoyed it.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jan 9, 2021Updated review
This is a good place I love coming to for lunch because of their portion, price and taste. They have such a nice variety from baked goodies, to rice dishes to even pasta dishes. They even have a lot of dinner options!
*
Baked pork chop with fried rice ($11) ~ This didn't have a load of cheese or any cheese on top. But very fragrant in tomato flavour. The Porkchop is very nicely seasoned and baked. Super crispy under the tomato sauce. The rice is nice too perfectly cooked. This dish takes longer to prepare so if your in a rush id go with another option.
*
Ying yang fried rice (I don't recall price but I believe it was $14) ~ THIS IS A STEAL. The portion is huge, and so worth it. The sauce is so good tomato is very flavourful ad the cream is smooth and rich. Really love getting this dish here. 100% recommend this! Good to share.
*
9.5/10 ~ I love the ying yang fried rice so much, and baked rice I wish there was cheese on the baked rice, but the flavours regardless was outstanding.
*
10/10 ~ portions and price is so worth it here, I really enjoy this place a lot. 100% worth the price. i don't recall exact price, but we paid around $30 with tip included.
*
8/10 ~ good social distancing spread out. But didn't require mask, or contact information, nor did they provide hand sanitizing or temperature check at the door.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Dec 27, 2020Previous reviewFor Christmas this year my parents and I celebrated eating a nice dinner here at lucky joy! They have pretty good dinners and dishes here
*
Comes with container of rice and soup.
*
Salt pepper crab (+$25) ~ very meaty and very nicely seasoned. Perfect kick and the crab is coated perfectly in the salt and peppers!
*
Minced pork string beans ~ flavourful and nicely cooked. Each bean had flavours and the minced pork is very well flavoured.
*
Ginger soy sauce chicken ~ skin and meat slides right off the bone. Chicken is super soft and tender very juicy. The soy sauce is very delicious and so good with the ginger!
*
Japanese style diced beef and eggplant ~ 100% recommend this. The egg plant is first fried then tossed. The eggplant is also super crunchy and soft. Beef was tender and delicious and perfect seasoning
*
Chinese style fillet steaks ~ these are so bomb! Highly recommend it! The steak is soft and tender and the sauce is everything!
*
10/10 ~ I really enjoy coming here for both their lunch menu and dinner menu! Dishes are very flavourful and delicious!
*
8/10 ~ The portions were good too and very delicious. I've seen cheaper for sure but it's not too expensive rather on the cheaper side I would say! Total bill before tip: $124.75
*
8.5/10 ~ good social distance, contact information gathered, masks, barriers between booths as well!Jan 16, 2020Previous reviewThis is one of my go to places during the work week. Not only is it super close to me but also because it's delicious, fast, casual, and pretty cheap for the portion. ($12-$13). By the way it comes with a drink!

I love getting various things here one of my favourite is the yin-yang rice and the pickled veggies with beef chow mien. It's super delicious and crunchy! Loved the sauce and flavouring plus the portions are huge! I got to pack to go!
*
The curry noodles here is delicious! Super well seasoned and the flavours are well incorporated as well! Definitely recommend!!
*
Apart from lunch and their rice and noodle menus they have dinner options too! The dinner here isn't bad either! (Only thing is parking is hard but get there early!).
*
Can't wait to come back to get their yin-yang rice!

No frills restaurant serving Hong Kong style fare. It's a bit off the beaten path near Cambie and No. 5 Rd, but this place can get crowded during dinner time. Parking can be an issue as the parking lot in front of the restaurant is small.
People don't go to this place for the decor or the ambiance; they come to this place because they can get food that taste just as good but costs less than the fancier restaurants. We got the 3 dish combo which includes soup, and we paid an extra $25 for ginger and scallion Dungeness crab. The crab was big and meaty, and tasted great. For the rest of the dishes, the beef and eggplant was the best out of the bunch. The both the eggplant and beef pieces were fried to a point that they were just a little crispy on the outside but plenty of moisture on the inside. We also got the steamed chicken on lotus leaf and bean sprouts, and those were good. No complains about the included soup either. Whole thing was about $100, which is not that expensive for a meal that included a whole crab.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - O M.Seattle, WADec 19, 2022Updated review
We ordered 2 dish combo $58.88 plus $25 lobster plus $5 egg noodles. The 2 dishes are prawns with rock salt and eggplants with egg tofu. We added salt and pepper tofu in addition to the 2 dish combo. Total is about $118 including soup and rice. We came at lunch. Perhaps that's why they didn't serve dessert. We like the lobster and salt and pepper dishes. The sauce on the eggplants is not what we would have liked. It was something that was different than the typical brown sauce dish. They serve complimentary hot tea. Service was ok.
Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Nov 28, 2021Previous reviewHad the 2 dish combo $51 plus $25 lobster (2 lbs) plus $4 noodles. The combo came with 2 entrees, rice and soup. We never enjoyed the soup so mostly untouched. We like the lobster with ginger and onion. Their salt n pepper shrimp is good too. We normally ordered fish with tofu hotpot as part of the combo. In addition, we like salt n pepper fried tofu. This time though, they charged $25 for the tofu as if it's a 3 dish combo $76. When we brought this to their attention that we only ordered 2 dish combo plus a side, they changed the salt n pepper tofu to $19. I believe it was about $12 before. I would think it would be more reasonable at $15. The salt n pepper tofu was cooked a little different from the typical in that it has some red chili sauce. We prefer the traditional salt, pepper and jalapeno. Overall, food is tasty. Service is typical in Chinese restaurant in the Richmond area, i.e. minimal so we never have different expectation. As far as cleanliness ( bathrooms), it's expanded and improved from a couple of years ago from the last time we visited.

Very yummy, especially the egg yolk crab. Just for adding $8 for the additional egg yolk so good deal

Another nice and simple Chinese restaurant located in Richmond. The place is pretty plain and simple inside - not too much decorations. They have a special where if you order 3 items from the special section of the menu you can add on a full lobster for additional $20. We ordered this stir fried beef with bitter melon, braised beef in a clay pot,a soy sauce ginger chicken, and the lobster. The food all came out pretty quickly. They even give you a complimentary soup, rice in a nice thermo too keep warm, and a complimentary dessert soup at the end (almost like an egg flower soup). The beef with bitter melon was really good (you have to like bitter melon) along with the chicken. The braised beef was very tender and easy to eat.

I love this Chinese restaurant!! I visit Lucky Joy Restaurant 6 times a year for family birthdays. We always order 4 dishes for dinner to get a free crab. Staff mostly speaks Chinese, so it is difficult for non-chinese speakers to communicate with the staff. However, I noticed that even if you speak Chinese, staff still gets things messed up. Maybe they're just too busy?
They serve complimentary hot tea, soup, rice and dessert if you order 3-4 dishes.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Marcus E.Surrey, Canada2199Aug 23, 2022

Never had a bad dish from here. Their chilli oil is amazing. Love all their noodle dishes. Insanely tender beef and perfectly cooked vegetables and it's consistently good every single time. Prompt, efficient service. Can't beat the price either. Our go to for always delicious, reliable, fast, well priced food.
