We sat on the back patio. It was lovely. The guacamole was nothing to write home about but the Camarones Al Chipotle were AMAZING. One of my friends had the Camerones Al Mojo de Ajo she loved the dish. Another friend had the beef Sopitos and said they were delish. I'll definitely be back for the Camerones Al Chipotle!

Update: I notice the establishment replied back to my Yelp message and their response only reinforces their lack of customer valuation while offering no apologies for their owner/supervisor's demeanor who yelled and used inappropriate language when I asked why I was being charged $5 for chips and salsa that I did not even request.

The margarita is made of low quality synthetic ingredients (no fresh lime juice in the house) which tasted as good as it sounds. And while I was planning to order food to go, I watched enough being prepared that I chose to leave instead. Canned, jarred & processed isn't my style and I hope it isn't yours, either.

Yet, I was kind and I still left a tip. I think that's a pretty decent response to an inappropriate situation. I'll leave it up to future readers. My rating stands!

If you want really lousy, Mexican food with poor service, this is your place!

Recommend driving five minutes to Redwood City or 10 minutes to La Fiesta in Mountain View if you want authentic Mexican food with friendly service that doesn't come from a jar.

There's a reason the place is empty 90 percent of the time.

Mama Coco is a colorful, homey Mexican restaurant offering a menu of fresh, vibrant dishes. The Pescado Asado was a fillet of pan-roasted snapper served over a creamy yellow squash puree along with zucchini, corn, peppers, mango, tomato relish, and coconut rice. The Carne a la Tampiqueña was a variety plate that came with sliced skirt steak grilled with onions/peppers, mole enchiladas, guacamole, refried pinto beans, and red rice. Finally, we had the Huarache (meaning "sandal"), made of a fried oblong masa dough served over black bean puree and topped with cactus salad, cheese, cream, green salsa, and a choice of meat (we had the Cochinita Pibil, or achiote pork shoulder braised in banana leaves). My favorite part about the dishes was the variety of flavors represented on each of the plates, though the prices were surprisingly high for the portion sizes, and the service was slow and inattentive.

My opinion is probably biased because I am Mexican. The chile reńeno was good, they don't seem to deep fry it, which is fine ( healthy) it still tasted good. However the rice tasted a bit weird to me, like if they had made it from canned tomatoes. I didn't really like that. The means were good. Other than the rice I enjoyed the meal. I also didn't get any tortillas. I am used to eating this meal with tortillas and I was surprised I really didn't need them. I will day this place is like a healthier version of Mexican Food which I love. The place itself it's beautiful. The tables and just the decorations are so cute! Very cozy. The service was good.

So, I'll start by saying the restaurant is very cute and the decor is very welcoming. Our server was very kind and prompt. However, the food and drinks were awful. I don't mind paying for chips and salsa, but this was obviously jarred salsa, very reminiscent of Pace Picante sauce. The chips were also a familiar bagged option. Our entrees were meh. The steak in the burrito bowl was very fatty and the flavors were muted. The rice didn't taste fresh and guacamole was sub par. The margaritas were terrible. They tasted oddly similar to Crystal Light powdered beverage mix and I wasn't sure if there was any tequila in them. Overall, we spent $200 for the worst meal I've had in the Bay Area in a long time. I wanted to like this adorable establishment, but I won't return. There are many other mexican restaurants around the area with much better food and drink.

We had tons of out of town guests coming for a big birthday weekend. We decided to take them all out to the Guild the night before the big bash and have a group dinner here so we could walk to the show.

Monica was so kind and easy to work with. Everyone loved the food and we had the best time in the back patio.

Really was not a fan of this place.

First, they kept the door open so as a result, the interior had tons of flies and mosquitos that kept flying around our food.

Second, the service was not great. It took a long time for anyone to come by to take our order or to take our bill.

Third, the food was really disappointing. The guacamole tasted like it came from a grocery stores far too creamy. The bowl for the tostada ensalada was too hard and none of the shrimp were deveined. And agree with other reviews that there was way too much dressing on the salad.

Sadly would not return and would not recommend.

A small, hole-in-the-wall restaurant that I would definitely recommend! Our entrees took a while to come out (~30 minutes) but we were also a party of 10. Plus, the guacamole & civiche appetizers made up for the time waiting. Order these! They were both so delicious!
Got the Suizas De Mariscos for my entree and have no regrets over choosing the Fish Tacos (which I would try next!). Even though it wasn't that busy at dinner time, we were provided with great service. I would come back.

Suizas De Mariscos (no black beans; sub extra rice). A must try!

      Takeout order:

8/10 Chicken Fajitas Quesadillas Plate Lunch $18(?) - good serving size, quesadilla was cold and cheese had hardened up but otherwise would've been really good fresh. Fajitas and chicken were yummy and well seasoned. Guac was mediocre but red sauce was good. Rice and beans were standard.
