Maru Sushi & Don

The quality was good. The taste was also good. The quantity of fish however in my opinion was quite lacking. It would be 5/5 if there was a good amount of salmon on my bowl. The salmon was diced quite small too. I felt like there bowl was mostly greens, felt like a vegetable bowl instead of a salmon bowl (to me at least). Given the price, it was a just a little bit disappointing ($17) -- would've been perfect with more salmon. It was still good and enjoyable because their sauce combinations were good, I opted for the spicy mayo variation and the onion crunch made everything a great combo.

Also, not sure if this helps but the table next to me ordered the salmon bowl too and they seemed to enjoy it. Not sure if we had the same amount of fish in the bowl ‍ haha

As per the udon, my friend ordered this. J wasn't able to taste it but as per his comment, he says it was good.

Overall, the servings were quite big. You'd leave the place quite full. I was surprised.

Service was great. The lady was kind and accommodating.

The ambiance in my opinion was really good because it was so simple, so calming and so clean. A bit minimalistic I'd say, which I prefer.

Overall 4/5 because it was no doubt good -- just can't give a 5/5 because of how relatively un-proportioned the salmon serving was to what was supposed to be a salmon bowl.

Came here on a Saturday for dinner with the family. It had great reviews so we had to try it and it did not disappoint. It's a cute little place with not too many tables. Thankfully, on this day it wasn't too busy. That being said it started to fill up after we got a table. Parking is street parking.

The service was really great and attentive. The inside of the restaurant has some character.

The menu is not large but it did have some of our favourite items. We ordered Prawn Tempura Udon, Assorted Sashimi, Dynamite Roll, 2x Salmon & Avocado rolls and a Rainbow roll. Everything tasted fresh. We definitely will try and come back again.

Why are there suddenly so many great sushi places in Calgary?! Maru is absolutely one of them. This is the space that had been Meshi (which is still around- it's moved to the Upten condo tower at 10th Ave and 1 St SE), and I decided on a whim to head there for lunch. I'm happy to say that it's superb! I got two piece of unagi nigiri, a spicy tuna roll and an avocado and cucumber roll. All was delicious but the real stunner was the unagi: it was warm and melting, one of the best I've ever had. The rolls were fantastic too. Service was extremely friendly! A gem. Oh, I ordered a la carte and spent around $30 with tip, but there are really good combo/bowl combos that are very reasonably priced and you can get a delicious lunch here for less than $20, but when I always have to try the unagi (2 lovely pieces for $7) at a new-to-me sushiya.
