We had a wonderful experience at this restaurant! We sat outside on the patio which was great! It's located in a cute and quaint neighbourhood; Fernwood. The service was excellent, and the portions were generous. The chips and salsa were good, although I wish the chips were made fresh like in Mexico. The corn tortillas were the highlight of the tacos. The taco filling with corn and zucchini was tasty, but it lacked the authentic Mexican kick I was hoping for. Overall, it's a great place to dine, and I enjoyed my visit.

Food used to be good but there has been a change. There are 3 options, Enchiladas, Tacos or Burritos all with choice of 4 fillings. Enchiladas used to be more authentic with cheese and sauce on top, now they are the exact same as the tacos except they fold the tortilla over and poor a very watery salsa on the base of the plate. Tacos are open face like what a fajita would be but without the flavour. Not at all tasty any of it, beans are dry. Service is less than average, did not take the order properly, did not know the drink menu and had to ask twice for waters for the table. Used to be one of my favourite spots but won't be back unless i hear that they have a new good chef.

Amazing service! I asked for a coffee ambit they don't do to go but when I told them that I was just across the square at the Belfry they allowed me to take the cup and return it when I was done with it. I know that it's just a cup but it meant a lot.
When I returned to take the cup back, I ordered an entree to go and it was ready very quickly and the price was quite reasonable.
The food is rather tasty (it takes a lot for me to say this as my mother was known as an amazing cook and that was in our Mexican city) and the flavour is pretty authentic. I do go back quite regularly even though it's a little small for my motorized wheelchair but they make a point of making things work.
I know most people on reviews don't talk about the other customers in the place being reviewed but I think it's important to take note of this as it speaks of not only the food and the quality of the place but also of the place itself.
The other patron are just as friendly and accommodating as the staff. The patrons are super diverse along with a lot of Latins people so you know the food has got to be good! It's a great place to go with your entire family or with a group of good friends or... go by yourself and make new friends! ;)
I didnt give them a 5 star because it would be nice to see them have different selections of salsas: green, red or brown and different levels of spiciness.

I decided to give this cute local place a try in Fernwood with my grandma, and I was pleasantly surprised!! It was great affordable food which can be so hard to find these days. I have been to Café México many times, and the cocktails here are much more palatable. The food felt as authentic Mexican and came out very quick , and the server we had tonight was great. Definitely recommend this place!

Really enjoyed this small place with big flavours. I've had Mexican food all over Mexico and the US. All I can say is I had a great burrito that was in a style I enjoy (not wet tortilla) and was very savoury. Now, if they had a selection of house made salsas, green and red, rather than all bottled habaneros, it would make a perfect blend.

Chorizo and potato burrito with a pint of beer. Yummy!

Visiting from California, we were in the mood for some Latin & Mexican inspired dishes and decided to try this restaurant that was the closest to our Airbnb.

Upon entering, a young & very friendly woman greeted us and went over their menu and the various options they had for drinks. She gave her suggested and came back shortly with water. We decided to try the "basics" of enchilada and tacos and boy... were they tasty!

I highly recommend trying out this cute little restaurant if you're in the area. Friendly staff, relaxed ambience and delicious food.

Stopped in during the Fernwood street festival, was expecting a long wait but were seated within 2 min, food arrived within minutes. It was a quiet oasis away from the crowds outside.

Beer was cheaper than festival prices, food was great, owner was engaged and greeted everyone coming in. A++ best decision to stop in, will be coming back for sure.

Where do I even start! First, I meant to do this months ago.

We came here for my wife's birthday in February. With two very active kids (2 and 5) it is always a challenge. Never mind it was a Friday night and we were sure that we would be the LAST customers a restaurant would want to see (kids mess, not much drinking, loud kids, special requests etcetera).

From the moment we walked in we were greeted with open arms. Our server seemed to know EXACTLY what our needs were and gave us great suggests to help feed the kids and enjoy our meal.

      And the food was AWESOME!

It was so nice for us, as we hardly get out, to feel like we were out on a Friday night, having fun and revisiting our pre-parent days. We felt cool and hip (although I am sure those words are passe now). They treated us great and it was more than we had expected for my wife's birthday.

Overall a great experience. We will be back.

And for those who read this and think "hey I should take my family there too" I would say this - make sure to tip big because the extra work they do is worth it. If we ALL want to be able to have such great experiences we have to make sure it is worth their while when we come in.

Just moved to Victoria from Portland OR and I've been looking for a "Taco Tuesday" place. Dropped into Mesa Familiar yesterday and had some delicious carnitas tacos! No special Tuesday price, but they do contribute a percentage to a good cause. Cute, cozy space tucked. Into a sweet Fernwood neighborhood. Very friendly people. I'll be back.

After seeing their IG account I decided this was the place to go for my birthday. We we're greeted with smiles and started immediately. The waiter was amazing. He was attentive yet non pushy. Friendly and upbeat. We love that there is a core menu then on the blackboard is a list of the days current menu which apparently changes almost daily. I ordered off the blackboard as did everyone in my group. The food came quickly and was really good. The margaritas were made from freshly squeezed limes (hard to find that in this town). I was hoping for tres leches cake for dessert but they weren't serving that this evening. Buts that's okay maybe next time.
