I've lost track of how many times I've eaten here in the past four months, but I think it's fair to say that I'm pretty much a regular at this point. I typically order the three item dinner bento, and have only ordered the tekka donburi once on an impulse. I do this because for my current budget, the 3 item bento is the best deal and I typically end up taking home some food for a future lunch or dinner.

That said, Minami Sushi is a very small and unobtrusive place. The service is always good, and the only time I've ever had an issue is when it was a packed restaurant and there was only one waitress scheduled. (Not her fault, that was really a management issue.) The staff always greets you when you enter through the door, and you have the option of sitting down at a table or at the sushi bar.

Upon sitting down, the waitresses will always bring you a menu and a bowl of free edamame (note: it is only one bowl of free edamame per party, so a group of four will receive only one bowl of edmame just like a group of two). In addition to water, you can ask for hot tea free of charge and watch the sports channel on a large television screening towards the back of the restaurant while you decide on what to eat. The women's restroom is always clean and they even have a Japanese toilet installed. I haven't used the Japanese toilet to its full functional capacities besides flushing, but it's fun to see nonetheless.

The three item bento always comes with miso soup and salad with Japanese mayonnaise-based sauce that has sesame seeds in it. I haven't been disappointed by the miso soup or salad, and while I could tell them to 'ease off' on the dressing, I don't mind at all because I'm a big salad dressing fan.

Of the three item bento items, I've ordered: saba shioyaki; salmon teriyaki and shioyaki; californai roll; tonkatsu; tempura; and gyoza. I'm not a big traditionalist about how food 'should' taste since this is San Lorenzo and not Tokyo, so I really don't have any qualms about how the food tastes. In fact, I like it quite a bit and have yet to be disappointed with what I've ordered.

When you ask for a to-go box, the waitresses will give you what you need, and you'll be responsible for packing up your food.

This is a very low-key place that attracts a lot of regulars from around the area. It's not fancy or topnotch, and that's how I like it - down to earth and a place I can always count on to go to whenever I want to relax after work, treat myself to Japanese food, or be alone contentedly.

Three item bento: tonkatsu, saba shioyaki and salmon shioyaki.

An absolute go to when I want to eat out with my family. This is also my uncles favorite spot. It does tend to get busy during dinner time Fridays to Sundays.

The waiters are super sweet and super attentive. They always come by to check how we are doing.

It can get a little noisy (not a lot) as it gets busier but it can also be a nice quiet spot.

My favorite to get here is the tiger roll and the volcanic scallop (didn't get it for this last visit). Every time I order (dine in or to go) their fish always tastes fresh :)

The dressing for the salads is an all time favorite and they sell it in a bottle as well - a great way to get your veggies in.

      1 check-in

Joined her cousins for dinner. We arrived early and had a table reserved. We were surprised to see that the business was constant and there were always people waiting for a table. Of course, it was the dinner hour.

We arrived first and were seated. We were asked if we'd like to order drinks, which we did. She was disappointed to learn that they don't offer Iced Tea, so she got hot Green Tea instead. This was the first disconnect that we noticed. From order time to drinks being served probably took close to 10 minutes.

When the rest of our group arrived, they all ordered Ice, Water which came fairly quickly.

There were five of us and we all ordered three-item Bento Boxes in different combinations. We also ordered two orders of Agedashi Tofu, and the restaurant also presented us with two orders of Deep Fried Gyoza.

I had Sashimi (+$1), Tonkatsu and Mixed Tempura. The Bento also came with Steamed Rice, Salad, Miso Soup and a half-slice of orange.

She had Saba Shioyaki, Mixed Tempura and BBQ Short Rib (=$1)

I didn't pay close attention to what others ordered and then realized after we were done eating that I had forgotten to take photos of our Bentos.

The Salads and Miso Soup that came with the Bento were good.

We didn't care for the way the Agedashi Tofu was presented. Somewhat deconstructed? The Tofu was in the middle of the plate with Bonito Flakes and Green Onions of opposite sides. I've never seen that presentation before. The sauce was served on the side in a plastic serving cup. There wasn't enough sauce, it wasn't hot, and the plastic is simply more garbage for the landfill.

While we appreciated receiving the Gyoza, I would never order Deep Fried Gyoza because of the texture.

My Tempura was pretty good but once again, the dipping sauce came in plastic cup.

The sauce for my Tonkatsu also came in a plastic serving cup. There was only enough sauce for 1/2 the order. The order of Tonkatsu was surprisingly large and the pork was very tender. I didn't ask for more since I was full, and I have plenty of condiments at home.

My Sashimi was okay. Three pieces of Maguro and two pieces of Sake.

She really enjoyed her Bento Box and apparently everyone else enjoyed theirs as well.

Overall, it was a decent meal but definitely leaning more toward what I call American Japanese than true Japanese. The menu appears to be fairly extensive, and they have a ton of rolls to choose from.

The staff was friendly and many of them knew our companions.

I hadn't been to Minami sushi in quite some time, but I am pleased to say that I was very happy with my meal. I had the chicken teriyaki bento box and the chicken was very fresh and tender. The person that I was with ordered the salmon and said it was delicious as well.

Everyone at Minami sushi seemed very friendly and the price is right. I will definitely be going back.

Best sushi in the eastbay. If you are in San Leandro it's the place to go. It's our place to go for casual dinner and saki.

Solid 4.5 star. Quantity and quality food at reasonable prices. I got the bento box with a 4 large piece sashimi, crispy and on point tempura, and perfectly crunchy and moist chicken katsu. Would definitely recommend!

      Bento box. Huge portions!

I was craving sushi and since I'm new to the San Leandro area and Minami is very close to my new home, I decided to give them a try. I noticed that their prices shown on their website were affordable so I decided to call in my order. When I called it in, they told me it would take 20min but didn't advise the total price. My boyfriend went to pick it up for me and when I saw the recipe taped to the bag, I noticed the prices for each roll DID NOT match what they advertised on their website, which is DEFINITELY false advertisement! I specifically ordered from Minami based on their online prices but I was overcharged. Although the sushi had mid-level flavor and quality, I won't be ordering from here again because of the price and them not informing me that the online prices are not up to date.

Minami Sushi gave off a bar vibe, like most sushi places lately. Their Unagi hand roll was so-so because we prefer a more crunchy nori wrap when it comes to hand rolls. Our server was a nice young girl, asked us if we were doing okay and got our orders correct. The other workers were pretty kind too and greeted us out when we were done. The lion king was a bit heavy and oily, other wise pretty good. Their Dragon Roll is yummy too, but too big for me to finish alone. Overall pretty satisfied :)
