Nam San

This is a review of Nam San's Alexandra Street location.
My wife and I love Sundubu, Korean tofu stew. It's the king of comfort food for me. But this was about the tastiest we'd ever had. She had the Sundubu Jjigae with seafood , I had mine with kimchi. Loved it!
Nam San is a compact, comfy place, with a lively, young-person feel. It took the chill out of a rainy night. Elaborately staged videos by girl- and boy-groups played overhead.
Our waiter, a warm, soft-spoken giant, was the greatest: I returned a few minutes after we left because my wife forgot her leftover rice. He asked me if I'd returned for that. "Yes." He told me it had been thrown out. The table was cleared and clean. He asked if I'd like another. "Yes." He GAVE me the warm to-go container of rice that WAS ALREADY IN HIS HAND.
Excellent, above-and-beyond service ... or PSYCHIC POWERS? We will be back.

Specially went there and had sign temporary close. No idea what's going on.

One line review: This was surprisingly good for a food court.

We found this little spot inside the food court on Robson Street. We later discovered that it is a friend's favourite Korean spot. What a small world!

We shared a stone pot bibimbap and stone pot spicy pork. Portions were big enough -- not oversized but not skimpy. The food was well-seasoned.

Service is mostly from the cashier at the counter, though we arrived late their day when there was very little activity in the food court, and they actually brought our food out to us. Otherwise, I think you're supposed to retrieve your meal from the counter when your number shows up on the sign.

Parking in the West End is often at meters, though these can be surprisingly reasonable. It pays to hunt a bit, as cheap ($1/hour) or even free parking can be found in the neighborhood.

Bottom line: We enjoyed this reasonably priced dinner and would be happy to come back.

What a cute little korean restaurant. Their lit up sign enticed us and decided to have dinner here. The two ladies who served us were so nice and polite. We got seated right away and menu is simple and straightforward. I ordered the bibimbop in stone bowl. It was fresh and delicious. Kind of on the smaller size for $16. Wish it was a bit bigger.. but meal came with packaged seaweed and pickled radish. The whole meal felt homey and authentic. I would like to come back and try other dishes.

This spot is a little hidden gem on Robson St shouldn't be missed.

Their soondae is bombass. The outer casing has a nice crunch and the filling has a nice balance of flavours. Love the dipping sauce is awesome.

Soondubu jigae is just OK but the soondae is a must try.

Love their Gamjatang! So delicious! Big portion, one person couldn't finish it. Will definitely come back when I visit Vancouver next time!

I previously bookmarked Namsan to try some of their food one day. I walked past by Robson all the way to public market and stopped here since I was very tempted to try it.

Great menu if anyone is into pork intestines, pan fried intestines and etc. Plus there were soups to try on the menu. I tried #1 regular pork sausage soup ($13.99) it came piping hot. I had to wait awhile for the food and that was okay. Besides there isn't much staffs around and you're expected to wait awhile for the food.

My food came with rice, spicy radish, seaweed, dipping sauce and some chilli peppers. I wish that staff was more helpful, but they were too busy working or talking with others. Otherwise, the food was great. The soup didn't come out as spicy as first. Condiments were included to control spiciness. I don't recommend putting the orange powder which might be a cayenne pepper.

Loved my food! It was definitely comforting on a cold winter days. I'd love to try some Soondae (pork blood sausages) on its own or other dishes. My only complaint is the tiny amount of side dish for my food, and it was mostly the seasonings that came with it.

I eat offal mainly because it's nutrient dense and I feel it is a health food.
Also Hwasa inspired me on an episode of a korean eating show and I grew to enjoy it also.

The first time I landed on the 2nd floor at 2pm for a late lunch of soup, I came back with a friend at 6pm to try the sizzling plate.
Their food is that good.

Personally, I enjoy soups allot more. I enjoy the quality of the soup base, the cuts of the offal and the sausage here more than South Castle in North Vancouver.

Only downside is more cubed radish or even offer a la carte banchan would be a fantastic rounding of a meal.

However I understand this restaurant is a one man show, and he kept his quality and consistency very high.

From NYC and had business in Vancouver. I'm half Korean and was craving something soupy to warm my body after visiting sunset beach. I selected Nam San based solely on review and having basic Korean dishes. I didn't want to sit in a smoky k bbq joint.
Anyway, I was shocked that it ended up being on a 2nd level of what looked like a dingy, vacant food hall. I looked at menu and immediately picked the seafood Kalguksu. IT WAS A HUGE BOWL & DELICIOUS! If you haven't tried it, it's definitely worth it on a cold rainy day! It's a white/ clear broth, so no hot spices. I'm not sure if the noodles were hand cut, but they were a perfect chewy consistency.
The side kimchi radish was not the best, but I could care less as I was enjoying the soup so much.

Some people just aren't very smart (speaking about myself here). During the heat wave, I had a craving for hot soondae soup. I knew I had to drive downtown and get it.

I got the soup, some soondae with organs, and a bulgogi with rice. All three dishes were delicious. My partner really liked the bulgogi with rice and said we'll be ordering that again as well.

The service is always so friendly. It's a one man show.

Each food order comes with a packet of seaweed so if you don't want it, let him know.

The public market is HOT inside so you might want to sit outside or go on a cooler day, or brave it if you think you can.

I've had soondae at a few places in town and this is my favorite.
