About the Business
Tech-savvy and design-driven, NEMA is a next generation luxury residential community at the forefront of San Francisco's dynamic Mid-Market neighborhood renaissance. Every aspect of NEMA's design, from its angular glass façade that recalls the silvery tones of the Pacific Coastline to casually sophisticated interiors reminiscent of Napa Valley wineries, is inspired by the unique geography and inimitable style of Northern California. NEMA's residents will find themselves at the heart of the excitement in a trend-setting community that truly is "Made in San Francisco."

Q:
How is the neighborhood? Is it safe to walk on Market Street or? Friends have warned me not to consider NEMA because of location, but it has such great amenities (except for no AC).
A:
Yes! It's super safe. Like any city, watch where you walk (to avoid stepping in poop) and be aware of your surroundings late at night as you would anywhere. NEMA has been my home for over 2 years and I feel so safe here and so cared for by the nema… more

Beautiful place to live in. Fantastic Staff all over the building. Every department does an amazing job, completely impressed with their professionalism and customer service.
Thank you Aiden and James for helping us to pick the perfect fitting apartment based on our needs. We are grateful to call it home and that's only thanks to you. Also thanks to Giovanny from the Leasing office and Fred from the Packaging Department for always being on top of things.

Latest issue: terrible ventilation has meant awful odors from my neighbor every time they cook. The smell is overwhelming late at night and in the morning. It gives me a headache and makes me nauseous no excuse for an apartment this expensive to have skimped on proper ventilation. Can't open my (one) window because it's poorly designed where it rattles in the wind and I'll hear noise from the dog area all hours of the night as selfish owner's let their dogs bark while staring at their phones before slamming the gate.
Do not move in here! MiserableHelpful 2Thanks 1Love this 0Oh no 1Jul 1, 2024Previous reviewNoise all day long at the pool which carries throughout the entire property. I've sent requests for management to please enforce the no music policy and constant screaming from children but they don't.
The windows are faulty and do not close properly. Have had to have them fixed 4x in a few months. They also don't have AC and so you rely on open windows for cool air but they're poorly installed and rattle with the wind so badly you have to close them.
Also have experienced non stop noise from the dog walk and clanking of the gate 24 hours a day. Poorly trained dogs bark at all hours and owners don't do anything as most are just staring at their phone and don't care it's 6 am and it could wake people up. They treat the pee chute as a park for loud play and training with their dogs. There's no respect for other tenants and their right to quiet in their apartments.
Both the dog walk and pool are located in the central part of both buildings on the third floor so the noise carries to all apartments and has been constant since I moved in. Selfish tenants and zero enforcement.
I pay over $3k in rent and it is not worth it. Elevator is constantly broken. Had to walk down 14 flights of stairs last week because the elevator wasn't open. There are better buildings with better layouts and less expensive. I won't be renewing my lease.
Note: front desk and valet are very helpful. Fun events and nice amenities, but only a few positives compared to multiple negatives. Ty - Maya V.San Francisco, CA066Jul 29, 2024Updated review
Weevil infestation in some of the apartments. Building has not been able to get rid of the bugs!
Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 1Jan 27, 2024Previous reviewThe desk staff here is wonderful, but the apartment itself has some major cons. Not necessarily worth the expensive rent, at least in South Tower.
1. Extremely reduced airflow (only one window opens only a few inches) and no air conditioning. It's impossible to stay cool and is makes it hard to breathe overnight on stuffy days.
2. Very noisy overnight. The South tower is located directly over a dumpster (Recology pickups are extremely loud) -- they occur at 11 pm, 1 am and 3 am. Not a great location if you are a light sleeper. The dumpster was also recently set on fire which led to a lot of air pollution indoors if you have your window open.
3. In-unit laundry is quite bad. The combined washer/dryer in South Tower is extremely tiny (9 lbs capacity tops for dry), so it is very hard to do laundry even though it is technically in-unit. I have to dry blankets/towels/sheets on drying racks because the dry never really seems to work.
4. The laundry room shared machines are extremely dirty, many are full of dog hair. I don't think they get cleaned very regularly. This apartment has many many dogs and it is hard not to get animal hair on your clothes when washing/drying in these conditions.
5. Lots of dogs that aren't always super well-behaved. There can be a lot of barking in hallways/at nights. - 200202324Apr 5, 2023Updated review
Adding another review again because I'm bowled over by their hospitality and concern. This review is especially for the mail room at NEMA SF. My work authorization card got delivered here after we had moved out. Marshall, who manages the mails, emailed me to say there's a USPS package that seems to be important. As it was! I dropped in to collect it and thanked him for his service! He handed the letter to me and said, "I understand how long the government takes to deliver these cards and I didn't want to send the letter back". He deserves a raise and more for his forethought and concern!!!
Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0Feb 21, 2023Previous reviewNEMA offers you an unmatchable lifestyle. From the time we entered NEMA last year to today, I strongly believe that this is probably the best apartment I've lived at, closely following my childhood homes! If you're moving to the city for the first time, I wouldn't think twice before settling on NEMA. Check out the tips section on the NEMA page to learn more about how to make your decision to sign the lease easier!
I understand customer first attitudes in most companies but NEMA has leveled up to "customers = family", and that sets them apart. Here are some things that NEMA does differently:
1. Humility and friendliness. We visited The Avery for example when we were looking for apartments, and the agent showing us the house was so full of herself that we decided within 5 mins we are never looking at the Avery ever again. However from the second we walked into NEMA to our way out, Aidan and Gerlynn both made us feel so special and already at home that it was almost felt like breaking up to say no to NEMA after the first showing!
2. Did I say friendliness? The concierge and valet services are great, but the people managing those services make it even better! Biiiiig shout-out to the OGs Tony, Don, Ray, Melvin, Alvin, Carlos, Jimmel!!! I apologize if I'm forgetting some names but y'all have made our lives at NEMA so easy and epic. So grateful for you.
3. Community building: if it wasn't apparent above, community building is a skill that comes naturally to NEMA. The number of events, classes, trips they arrange for the residents is insane, and of course incredible especially if you're new to the city. And by default the residents are also very friendly. We have formed friendships here that we would otherwise take years to cultivate or maybe never even have. It's like being back in a fun university again!
NEMA, cheers to you!!! - Yeha R.San Francisco, CA01Jul 2, 2024
The front desk staff are lovely here. Especially the tall skinny East African guy I always forget his name but great personality. He spots me from long and opens the door immediately. Always smiling . Great face to come home to. Dogs are mostly problematic here in the building owners pay no attention to them. Laundry has been a challenge, leasing office are hard to reach consistently ignores emails and are always in meetings. Weekends are very difficult because of noisy neighbors. Place is overall Overpriced.

I had an amazing experience at NEMA apartments during my apartment hunt in San Francisco. Its location is perfect, with many good restaurants, concert halls, and offices within walking distance. The apartment is brand new, beautifully furnished, and offers an excellent view. The amenities are outstanding, with a beautiful swimming pool and a well-equipped gym that's always clean. The valet parking and doorstep delivery service are also top-notch.
Abby Bergman, the leasing agent, and Justin Bell, the leasing manager, were incredibly helpful throughout the entire process. Abby was very professional and attentive to my needs, showing me multiple apartments that were tailored to my interests. Justin was a considerate manager who made the process stress-free and enjoyable. Working with them was a fantastic experience.
Overall, I am thrilled to move into this apartment next year!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Oxana M.Los Angeles, CA2710385Aug 2, 2023
Great building with awesome amenities. Front desk guys are very friendly.
The maintenance team is superb. Maintenance Manager and Maintenance Coordinator are extremely responsive, any repair/ fixing request have been addressed very quickly and professionally. The building overall is very clean and pleasant to live in.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Alexis C.Modesto, CA0161Feb 5, 2024
After living at this residence for over a year now, I have experienced the worst experience during the leasing process. They have new leasing management that will ignore emails and calls. My leasing experience was far less than sub par. The building itself with amenities will be rated as a five star but If your looking for hassle-free experience please look elsewhere.

Signed a lease and I'm thrown away by the customer service here. The elevators are slow and crowded. I'm having massive regrets

My best apartment hunting experience at NEMA. I was greeted by Michael. He was very helpful because I had a limited budget and I needed some rent concession incentives to make the student budget. Michael showed me exactly the units that would fit my budget. We closed the "deal" within a week. He helped with the "on boarding" move quickly so that my student could get settled into her bright and cheerful studio within 10 days.
I truly feel safe by leaving my student at NEMA because of the friendly and 24/7 security system. The mail and package collection service is perfect. The public community space is wonderful and clean. Most of all, the valet staff members for dropping off furniture and heavy items were very tolerant.
Thanks to Michael and NEMA.
