Im 55yrs old. Raised in East Harlem. I have no more friends or acquaintances who supported trumpanzee. I also slept like a baby when his CFO did the perp walk in handcuffs on tv. Question: Am I too old to learn to ride a horse? Thanx.

      A:

No, you are not to old to learn how to ride a horse. I am older than you!! You will be properly introduced to horses and horsemanship if you take lessons. Decide if you'd like to learn to ride Western or English style. Dress appropriately and get… more

Today was my daughter's 1st time here and we were 8 mins late. At first it seemed as if they were not expecting me but after a few mins the lady came back and took my daughter in. Honestly i expected them to just teach her for the remaining 20 mins being that they had other kids there whom had arrived early for their turn. But they gave her an amazing introductory class that made my daughter very comfortable and wanting to go back.
DO NOT FORGET BUG SPRAY, like i did!
While my daughter rode her horse i spoke to the staff whom were very nice but serious about what they do. Which was reflected in the way the other parents there spoke about their experience there. We will definitely go back. Very happy to have found this place in nyc!

      Giddy-up pardners!

Who knew you can learn to ride horseback right here in Manhattan? Even a city slicker center get on horseback and ride into the sunset.

They accept youngsters to adults for horse riding lessons here. It's also a not for profit organization.

You can learn English or Western riding, along with grooming and barn management lessons. They can also be combined. For parents this is a terrific thing to treat your kids to.

They also accept full and part time volunteers. They also accept tax deductible donations. Located on Randall's Island which I run on a lot, and easy to get to off the Wards Island Bridge.

My daughter has been going here for lessons and their summer camp for years. Its run by one of the most dedicated couples I have ever met, the Blair's. Dr Blair teaches much more than mere horsemanship. He teaches life skills and work ethic. They tailor their teaching approach to the skill level of the student. Amazing jewel in the middle of the city.

So, you're an UES parent and feeling a little guilty about not providing the suburban experience to your kids. Would you believe that if they were to walk their bikes to Carl Schurz Park, they could pedal safely -- without crossing any streets -- to a riding stable where they could learn to ride horses with absolutely no prior experience? Moreover, it's set up to encourage kids of any economic background. The facilities are a bit limited for experienced riders, but for beginners this place is incredible. I really hope it survives because, honestly, there's nothing else like it for kids in Manhattan.

One of the best-kept secrets in Manhattan. I've been riding there for years and the whole operation is fantastic. I have no idea how they keep such amazing instructors (Linda and Sarah in particular are excellent but they're all terrific) but whatever they're doing, it's working. I'm also very impressed by their commitment to making the sport accessible to children from all financial backgrounds.

I can't think of a better way to spend a Saturday afternoon than to ride along the East River, the breeze and sun on your face, with the skyline in the background. So don your britches and your boots and book a lesson!

The one thing I'd change is that I wish they stayed open until later in the year--they're basically summer only. Would love to see them expand their operation a bit, maybe trail rides on Randall's Island or even Central Park (now that Claremont's gone) or extend their season to include October, the best month of the year to hack!

My daughter (age 7) attended the camp and it was fantastic. The owners are knowledgeable and lovely. It is a hidden gem.
