Nick Engel & Co: Fine Jewelry & Custom Design

Nick and his team are excellent! They worked with us to design a modern "inverse" version of my wedding ring (a family heirloom) for my husband's wedding band. Nick and Steven were very patient with us during the design process and updated the proposed design several times until it was just right. We were on a tight deadline but we were assured the ring would be ready in time and it was, with time to spare!

My husband LOVES his ring. Nick and team crafted something that fits him perfectly. He is so excited to wear it.

He was very collaborative for my wife's engagement ring, expanding on a concept that was drawn at his office, and even helped source the perfect stone for it. Since then, he has always been helpful and responsive when questions arise.

I definitely recommend Nick for any jewelry, and plan on working with him as new concepts come to mind.

Nick and his staff are so knowledgeable about gems and come up with amazing designs. Nick has worked on eight rings for me so far and I have never been disappointed. He and his staff pay great attention to detail and have done a wonderful job of picking out gorgeous gems to go with their classic designs.

After 15 years of wearing my engagement ring and wedding band set it was a time to remodel it for various reasons. I gave Nick a close to impossible task to design and execute a new ring that used all of the materials of the set (diamonds and gold), make it full of light and bright, original unique design that no one else has, incorporate both rings into a single one. Not the least of the challenge was to explain to my husband how it will look on my finger when finished. Nick accomplished all of the things I asked for! The ring came out well balanced, light and airy, definitely unique and a real pleasure to wear everyday. I have so many compliments about it! When I took it to get valuation, the gemologist called it significant, gorgeous and outstanding! She was impressed with both the design and quality of work! Thank you Nick so much!

My partner and I made our wedding bands with Nick Engel & Co., and it was a truly special experience for our wedding, to know that we made each other's wedding band.

I was so happy to find Nick after being disappointed with a poor quality engagement ring (not a diss to my husband since I picked it out)! He helped me design my dream set and I'm absolutely obsessed. I wanted something unique with a mix of more traditional stones and turquoise and lapis. He was so patient with me; I'm super picky and super wishy-washy, a nightmare combination of personality traits for a jeweler I'm sure. Nick had an amazing way of offering guidance while allowing space for my own creative freedom. It's been almost five years and I still admire my sparkles daily and get so many comments. I have sent a few friends to Nick since and they all have incredible and unique sets that they rave about. I cannot recommend him enough!

Hi, Nick & everyone there are extremely nice & professional. I contacted him & told him what i was interested in. A custom gold skull ring. ( Not what he's used to haha, but he loved the idea & challenge ) Contacted 1 other company & went with Nick. Glad i did it came out great. Took a few tries but that's because it's custom & each time we added a little something to get it to where it came out. I love it. Oh by the way i know i was a bit of a pain in the arse with all my e-mails changing things & they didn't care, said it's all part of doing something custom. I defiantly would recommend them!!

Disappointing work for custom project, Nick did not listen to requests and the result is a half finished project. The pictures will show the thinnest cross that can be bent easily, for something that was very specifically ordered with heft this was a half baked job at best. The work performed can't be justified, nor explained we gave Nick multiple chances to correct the projects we had for him. He doesn't keep his word, and worst of all you may have to find someone else to do the work after anyways. I was very clear the black diamonds were to be baguettes, yet even still until three months later he still showed a cad drawing with round stones. I can't believe we paid for this thing I can't even call jewelry. Nick didn't show he listened and three mo the later we see a very different result. Communication was lackluster, and expect to follow up yourself.

Edit: You don't even know your timeline and don't have the magic emails you speak of. There were zero cad drawings of the cross until you decided to go back on your word and charge Diana for work and material. You are dishonest and I'll be pursuing legal matter. We have the records to prove even in your response you lie. Wife picked up ring on Friday day before vacation. We saw you the day we came back from vacation.

Another jeweler is charging us to make the entire ring from scratch after your trinket which is small, and unwearable. The same price you wanted to so called add metal and only that was supposed to be the additional cost. Buyer beware, you can find better results and cheaper prices elsewhere in SF.

I've worked with Nick Engel & Co not once but twice to create truly unforgettable one-of-a-kind pieces that are a lasting part of my family history. In both cases, Nick Engel and team have been incredible partners and communicators and I couldn't have had a better experience.

When it comes to helpfulness and communication, the team knocks it out of the park. They'll get as hands on or hands off as you need and they really know their stuff. Alia has gone out of her way multiple times to help me through metal selection and an understanding of the ring creation process (from sketch to CAD to wax to final form). Nick literally taught me how to evaluate diamonds and I got the perfect one because of him. And Kathy helped me size the rings to get the perfect fits both times.

Beyond helpfulness, this is a team that somehow balances clear expertise with a huge sense of collaboration. With my grandfather's ring, I really put the ultimate creation in their hands but had a few pieces of inspiration and they made something amazing. For the engagement ring, I had a very specific idea of what I wanted and they also obliged - letting me be the director and creator. It was such an awesome experience!

When it comes to price and value, it's honestly amazing that they do so much for such a reasonable price. I did a lot of research beforehand, but there's just no place that's the best combination of value and having that local presence for meeting in person to go through details. And throughout the process, they sent a bunch of photos and in progress pictures that have been awesome for memories.

Really couldn't have asked for a better outcome for such an important series of essential pieces of my family history. So thrilled to work with them and excited for our ring-making workshop soon!

Nick and his team reworked a 100-year-old ring that belonged to my husband's grandmother. It had been beautiful in its day but was quite worn. The result is stunning. The ring retained its character but is, if anything, even more gorgeous than the original. We loved it so much I had my wedding ring made to match. I enthusiastically recommend them for any custom work you need, including both alterations to existing pieces and new pieces. You will not be disappointed!
