The only thing I dislike more than writing up a one or two star Yelp review is actually having the poor experience. Sadly, this was one of those.
As for the food, their signature Nightburger was literally a sad soggy mess. Within a couple of minutes, the grease (or juice, whatever you want to call it) was oozing out so much that the soft bun absorbed it like a sponge. As a result, the bun had zero texture. So soggy that a toothless toddler or denture-wearing grandfather could easily just gum this.
I ordered the Nightburger for takeout, and by the time I finished paying, I picked up the burger and felt that the bottom was already pretty soggy. I told the guy, "It feels pretty soggy. Come take a look at it". His response was, "I don't need to look at it. I know what it looks like. If you want, I can refund you.". He also acknowledged that they use a soft bun but said it was a great burger. I was so starved that against my better judgement, I figured I'd just chance it and take his word for it. WRONG. Before getting half way through, the soggy spots permeated most of the bottom bun and left it inedible. I ended up tossing more than half of it. Interestingly, the guy didn't offer to remake it. Maybe because he knew it would be the exact same? Either way, a total WASTE of $14.67 ($13.00 + 1.15 tax + .52 for 4% SF Mandate).Helpful 89Thanks 0Love this 71Oh no 0 - Mar 29, 2021
If you follow me at all, you know that burgers are my jam! So when I came across this burger pop up and saw the pictures of their ginormous burgers, I knew I had to drop on by.
Since it was my first time I decided to order in-person at their takeout. I didn't need to look at the menu, it was the night burger with all the fixings. The burger itself is juicy and flavorful. The 138 sauce is delish and the crispy cheese adds to the fun. Well seasoned patty, tons of sauce, an explosion of flavors. They side of pickles is a nice touch. I'd like to see some lettuce and tomato added, can never go wrong with some extra veggies.
The only drawback for me is the bun. The Kaiser roll ain't it. Everything in between is top notch, but there's a need for a bun that can withstand all the juiciness and sauce. I ate it a few minutes after picking up, and the bun was soggy to the point it was falling apart. If there was an option to upgrade to a toasted brioche or sourdough type bun, I'd 100% pay it.
My intuition and knowing that I was gonna eat it on the street corner, I asked for extra napkins which is a must, because this is the type of burger that's gonna get all over the face, straight drippin sauce all over the sidewalk kinda vibes.
Overall, if you are looking for a new burger, it's definitely worth trying out. The value and flavor is there, and worth the price of admission. For sure, my favorite cheat meal of the weekendHelpful 11Thanks 0Love this 10Oh no 0 - 574140460Oct 28, 2020
This is definitely a place for someone looking for a nice greasy cheat meal (and I mean that in the best way possible). I've never been to Nightbird and didn't know what kind of food to expect from a burger joint opened by a fine dining restaurant, but this was definitely one of those best of both worlds kind of things. You get the high quality ingredients and great culinary skills of a fancy restaurant, mixed with the comfort and satisfaction of a fast food meal.
We tried the burger, the BLT, and the loaded fries. The burger was nice, juicy and beefy with caramelized onions and melted, crispy, fried cheese. It was definitely quite heavy, but it came with some delicious bread and butter pickles which helped. The BLT came with thick slabs of pork belly which were crispy and sweet (they were coated in BBQ potato chips which was really interesting). The tomatoes and the lettuce and were so fresh and delicious, they tasted like they were straight from the farmer's market (they probably were actually!) The loaded fries were a bit too salty and indulgent for me, as they were already pretty well seasoned and salty, and on top of that were covered in cheese sauce as well as another house made sauce.
Everything was extremely delicious and satisfying but I definitely finished my meal feeling sorry for my arteries.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - Jun 28, 2020First to Review
It's interesting how fine dining restaurants are all dealing with the restrictions in response to COVID-19 - Saison launched their Smokehouse, Atelier Crenn is doing their Crenn kits, Birdsong started selling fried chicken. Nightburger is connected to Nighbird - a Hayes Valley fine dining establishment that really impressed me.
Nothing feels more American than burger and fries and this was definitely a treat for me one Saturday night. It's a really good classic burger and the fries 138 came with caramelized onions, jalapeño and cheese. They are available to order via Tock and this was about a $25 meal - great value. Definitely worth giving them a try.Helpful 8Thanks 0Love this 4Oh no 0 - J.P. M.San Francisco, CA43267184May 28, 2021
Awesome greasy burger and fries. Pretty quick too for non-fast food, you can walk up to order and wait 5-8 minutes.
I suspect this burger would do very well against hangovers.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Omer G.Brooklyn, NY22392381Apr 14, 2021
Nightburger is made by Nightbird, one of our favorite restaurants in SF (really, regardless of this review, you should go check them out once they re-open).
Since we liked Nightbird, we opt to try their burger pop-up, and got takeout of a burger and the fried chicken sandwich.
TL;DR: Not worth the price. Get it if you want to support Nightbird (awesome restaurant), but otherwise, there are better burgers around (Wesburger is one of our favorites).
For $13/$15, those are expensive burgers/chicken sandwiches. Unfortunately, they don't live up to their price tags.
The burger was good. Greasy, but overcooked. The bun is brioche, but doesn't taste like it's made in-house (I could be wrong). Lot's of bacon for the $2 supplement.
The chicken sandwich was less good then the burger. It is BIG, but pretty thin (made from chicken breast). I enjoyed the seasoning of the crust, but I still prefer the one at Wesburger or Hotbird.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - May 26, 2021
I haven't had a GREAT burger in a long time. A lot of burgers in SF are "fine" and then cost you about $18, leaving you hungry and annoyed. This burger was fantastic for all the reasons listed below - it was juicy, perfectly cooked, loaded, and flavorful (that gooey AND crispy cheese! the caramelized onions!). The waffle fries are also crisp and well seasoned. It's a shame they are closing this pop up soon, I need to come back for more and wish I had not waited so long.

My husband has passed by this spot plenty of times! He finally ordered takeout and got the cheeseburger and fries. Wow! It was a super juicy burger with tons of bacon. I could never finish an entire burger with 2 patties so we shared it. I'd highly recommend the nightburger and fries 138 loaded!
