I've eyed Pangaea while munching on soft serve at Gunther's across the street and then finally made it in on an extremely hot Sacramento Saturday. Immediately got those casual neighborhood vibes as we walked in. My husband ordered a pint and we found a place to sit in the beer fridge high top table. We spent our time sipping on beer and picking out tall boys for each other. The selection is on point with everything from the cult favorite Pliny The Elder to rad little Ghost Town Brewery of the bay! There were some great little imports as well. I'm a big design / label nerd and could have stayed to peruse for a full hour just looking at labels.

This is a great place to drop in for a pint or to pick up a 4 pack of beers to take to a friend's house.

Before all of my recent Sacramento adventures, I didn't know a ton about the growing food scene here, but the one thing I was absolutely sure about was how strong the beer scene is. Not in the "it's one big drinking town" sort of way, but, rather, that folks here both appreciate and support their local craft breweries. What's more, there seems to be no shortage of places around to enjoy said beers. Then again, with the likes of Pangaea around, how could anyone not want to come out to support spots like this?

First and foremost, being a bier cafe, Pangaea's beer selection is probably what will draw most folks here and I can say that it is quite impressive. Each time I've been here, their exact offerings have never been exactly the same (stuff will rotate on and off), but they always have a solid variety of options, featuring ales, lagers, sour beers, IPAs, double IPAs, ciders, and so much more. As for their food menu, it's no slouch either - it may not be super expensive, but just about everything they offer is enticing, whether it be their burger, fried chicken sandwich, nachos, or fries, among other things. Typical bar food, perhaps, but perfectly fine when you want to get down and dirty with something to go with your refreshingly cold beer!

-- FRIED CHICKEN SANDWICH - Crispy Fried Chicken Thigh, House Made Slaw, Pickles, and Habanero Aioli with Garlic Fries (+$4)...$19
Aside from the bun's burnt edges, this was awesome! The chicken was crispy and not heavily battered on the outside while juicy on the inside. Also, I liked how there wasn't an overwhelming amount of slaw and how well it meshed with the pickles and aioli to go along with the chicken and bun.

-- PANGAEA BURGER - Grilled 1/2 LB Chuck and Brisket Patty, Applewood Smoked Bacon, Cheddar Cheese, Lettuce, Tomato, Onion, Pickles and Special Sauce on Brioche Bun with Garlic Fries (+$4)...$21
Talk about a hefty boy! This is clearly a beefy burger, but what I loved most is how it wasn't the least bit messy/greasy. The cheddar and bacon perfectly complemented the patty and the veggies were incredibly fresh! I can see why so many folks rave about this!

As tasty as both the burger and chicken sandwich were (as well as our beers), I'd be remiss not to note that the $4 upcharge to go from fries (or coleslaw) to garlic fries does feel a bit heavy compared to what I've been charged at other places. That being said, the garlic fries here are legitimately some of the best I've had, so it just depends on how much you want some really good garlic fries (for the record, my wallet may not have been thrilled, but my stomach certainly was).

Upcharge aside, there's a whole lot about Pangaea that I like and not much that I don't. The food is great, the beer selection is terrific, and service was warm and friendly when we were here. Whether it's for a casual meet up with friends, happy hour, a low-key date, or just to cap an awesome/rough week at work, Pangaea is an awesome spot for a hangout of any kind!

Whoa! The reviews don't lie. Our last dinner before returning home and man was it a winner.
Made reservations and arrived real early after finishing our stops. Hostess was able to work is in within a few minutes. Our server was super friendly and on top of things. Loved the cozy but lively atmosphere.
Tried two appetizers for the table and both were great. All the entrees were delicious! Again our server stayed on top of our needs and made sure our wonderful dinner was epic.
Plan ahead and make this a stop when you can. So worth it.

I love this place! It has a fun little "hole in the wall" feel but everything is so yummy and they have such a good selection of food and drinks. It's a walk up and order and then find your table style. Personally I love that since it gives it more a casual feel. The service has always been so good everytime.

I usually get their Buffalo chicken salad which never disappoints. I accidentally took a bite before taking the pic! And then I'll sometimes get a side of the garlic fries. They have a huge beer selection but also have plenty of other options too!! Highly recommend!!

Solid little place that has a number of beers on tap. Came in for a quick bite after having an event down the street, and was pleasantly surprised.

Bonus points for me are self serve water station that's constantly refilled, along with the ability to grab utensils, condiments, and to-go boxes at the same time. Those always are great to have at a food serving establishment.

The staff we interacted with were great. While the food wasn't the most mind-blowing, knock off my socks type of food, the things we did order was solid and hit the spot. If I were back in the Curtis Park area, I would definitely come back. I'd want the ability to try the alcoholic choices they had on tap, and maybe discover a new favorite.

Fun little spot with great selection of beers. They have a good amount of outdoor seating. Went around 3:30 on a Friday and already had a decent crowd.

They have a small menu, but great options. Even options for kids.

Ordered the fried chicken sandwich. It does come with habanero aioli and I asked for the sundried tomato aioli instead since I was sharing with my daughter. When served it did come with the habanero aioli and fortunately I tried it first because it does pack a bit of a punch. Really tasty but too spicy for my daughter. The chef swapped it out super fast and left the original sandwich so we could at least munch on the fries.

Sandwich came with a large piece of chicken thigh and was soooo crispy! Had great flavor and was super filling- even with me sharing. Came with some thick sliced pickles and lightly sauced slaw. The fries were delicious! Perfectly hot, crispy, and salty. You gotta get a side of ranch because it's bomb! Has a nice dill flavor to it.

Definitely a great foodie/ beer spot. Will have to try something else next time but both my husband and I were craving that fried chicken sandwich!

      1 check-in

Pangaea has been on my must-try list for years and I'm so glad I finally got to go! It is 1000% worth the hype. We ordered to-go this time, but I've already requested to come back and dine-in ASAP. Ordering online was ridiculously easy and the food was ready exactly when they said it would be even though they were busy when we got there.

Man oh man, the food! Our party ordered the buffalo wings, the Pangaea burger, the fried chicken sandwich, and the black bean burger. Nothing disappointed and even the meat lovers said they would go back for the black bean burger alone. They don't skimp on avocado and it pairs so well with the patty and the elote mayo!

As a plus, it's right next to Gunther's for dessert!

Great local spot for beer and food with plenty of outdoor seating.

I came here on a Saturday afternoon for lunch and was pleasantly surprised at their selection of drinks and classic "bar" food. Despite their large selection of beer, I got a cider which was very good. We ordered the Pangaea burger and the fried chicken sandwich. The Pangaea burger was solid - the patty was generous and good quality meat. The fried chicken burger was alright - nothing too special. The fries were very good, especially the garlic fries. You order at the counter and they bring out your food so the service was minimal but they were all very friendly. This seems like a great spot to meet up with friends for a drink, especially in the summer when we can make use of the outdoor seating they have.

      Updated review

I don't know why we don't come here more often. Sometimes places just fall out of our minds. And then sometimes we think of coming to Pangaea on Mondays, when they aren't open. Well, not this day.

We came to expressly have their burger. It was a delicious one in our memories. And we learned it is still really really delicious. It is a big 1/2 lb burger that we shared. They made it easy for us by splitting it into two plates. The big bun is fluffy and sturdy to hold onto the inevitable slide between the produce and juicy burger. The produce was very fresh and cool next to the hot burger. The burger patty was thick, juicy, and flavorful. I love having bacon on it. And the fries are my kind of fries, crispy. Perfect burger. Perfect fries. And dessert across the street.

Staff super friendly. We will remember to come here more often.

My wife and I visited my niece and great nephews last week. We asked where we could get a good burger. She recommended Pangaea. I am 70 years old and that was the best burger either my wife or I have ever had in our lives. The service was great and the beer was wonderful too. Hope to get back to Sacramento sometime so I can have another one.
