Perfect Star Heating and Air Conditioning

If you don't have AC yet, and are searching for someone to install it in your house, I contacted SEVEN (7) AC installation companies who came on-site and provided an estimate:

Each technician was very courteous and knowledgeable. And all 7 technicians recommended I install a new furnace since the current one was 20+ years old...meaning more money to shell out (buzzkill). In the end I decided to go with...

Perfect Star HVAC

The technician (Chuck) won me over because he:

-used an HVAC brand that was budget-manageable.
-explained the HVAC flow system in a manner easy to understand.
-provided the parameters most realistic/applicable for a home in my neighborhood = did not try to upsell.
-was upfront with where to place the AC unit (for homes in my immediate area, it's against code to place them on the side of the house along the fence with such a narrow space). At least 1 technician, however, actually said they could place the unit in-between the house and the fence.
-was the first person to provide options on how to pay for the job. Others provided a quote, but not all provide payment plan options (all upfront, monthly financing, etc.).
-was the first person to discuss other requirements: post-installation inspection, permits, etc.

Once the contract was signed, 3 technicians performed the install (David, Will, Alec):
-all 3 were very helpful and courteous
-showed up at the "promised" start time
-it was an all-day installation, but it was worth it
-they walked me through what changes were made = condenser setup, furnace setup, and how to operate the thermometer

BONUS: if you have the funds to pay for an installation in a single payment, consider Perfect Star. They provide an additional discount if the job is paid in full via card or check.

After coming home from a 10 day camping trip and turning on our HVAC unit, our vents started to blow out insulation. About two months prior, Perfect Star replaced our neighbor's HVAC unit/ducts and we saw their vans parked outside so gave them a call (our neighbor also spoke highly of their work). Gio H. and Marcos H. came out to provided options (replacing ducting versus the whole system). Gio H. inspected our whole cramped crawlspace, found all the ducts on the ground with evidence of water damage, three disconnects and reviewed all the photos/videos with us (previous two companies did not put that much effort). Marcos H. came out and discussed replacing the whole system, was able to provide options and build us a custom package to meet our needs. We decided to swap our gas HVAC unit for an electric heat pump (anticipate transition to solar in the future). We also requested to move the unit from the crawlspace to the attic (explored previously by other HVAC companies and were told not possible). Marcos H. also provided reassurance to my wife of the cost to replace along with return on investment information (very knowledgeable and able to answer specifics/highly technical questions).

Martin J. was the captain assigned to lead our project. On day 1 we did a walk through and discussed the work needed to be done, expectations and concerns. Martin J. was very receptive and went beyond the scope of the work to assure customer satisfaction (pulling gas line from crawl space and previous unit electrical/hardware from crawlspace). Martin J. creatively built a hanging platform in the attic to increase room and movement as it was challenging to find a large enough flat space and still have a catwalk (see uploaded photo). Martin J. and his team (Bryan A., Martin H. and Wyatt S.) showed up on time, very professional and cleaned up at the end of the day. With the professionalism and attention to detail of Marcos H. and Martin J., we decided to also upgrade our whole house fan and attic fan. All work was completed in 3 days... Highly recommend Perfect Star and their team to anyone!

I am extremely disappointed with Perfect Star. As a long-time customer, I've experienced both good and bad service, with the latter often involving attempts to upsell unnecessary services. However, recent events have prompted me to terminate my relationship with the company entirely.

Perfect Star charges a hefty $400 annual membership fee that supposedly guarantees priority service and maintenance. When it was time to renew this year, I requested additional time to schedule maintenance due to phone difficulties. I was assured this was fine. A week later, I called back only to be met with a series of errors: my account was missing, I was falsely accused of having an overdue balance, and the membership fee was suddenly marked as past due. As a result, my service was rescheduled for November, despite my attempts to explain that this was my regular annual maintenance.

To make matters worse, I was charged the membership fee without authorization or service provided. Despite multiple requests for a refund, the process has been unnecessarily drawn out.

The final straw was the complete lack of customer care. I was promised a call from a manager to resolve the situation, but never received one. It's clear that Perfect Star has no interest in retaining long-term customers or addressing their concerns.

*** I haven't yet received the promise reimbursement, but fingers crossed.

7/26: A manager contacted me today after reading the review and is working to fix the situation.

8/13: Updating my review. A manager gave me a great tech and he came out quickly and did the service. It was a bumpy road, however I do feel like they took responsibility and provided me with a good technician who quickly serviced our units. Thank you.

My AC died after 25 years in the last heat wave. I had a couple estimates and went with Perfect Star based a recommendation from a family member. It was very easy to work with the salesman. His estimate ended up being lower than the others I received and was very willing to work with me on a few issues and help with pricing.

I manage quality assurance for home improvement contractors for a living so there are things I look at by nature when having work done on my house. I was very impressed with the quality of work. The Crew was friendly, clean and super professional. Installation of the new system took less than a day. It could not have gone any smoother. They cleaned up everything and answered all questions after walking through the work they performed.

Overall very happy with work done and I Definitely would recommend them.

Our AC went out last month. Keon Garcia, a representative at Perfect Star HVAC, provided excellent customer service for the Heat Pump replacement. He is knowledgeable, patient, and responsive to our requests/questions.
Anthony and his crew finished installing the Heat Pump flawlessly within a day. They finished the job, stayed late to test the system, and walked us through how to use the new system with the most energy efficiency.
The Heat Pump works smoothly without any problems.
We are very happy with their work and service. Highly recommended!

Fast, thorough and friendly. Explained everything very well. We signed up for their membership and will have them come out 2x/year for tune ups

My parents had their AC and furnace updated and Marcos came out to assist. He was very efficient, thorough, and easy to work with. They're very happy everything went smoothly, and just in time for the heat wave! They'll definitely be recommending him to their friends.

Perfect Star has been very responsive and we remain extremely pleased that we selected them in 2019 for new furnace and 2021 for added AC. We have a maintenance contract so they come out twice a year and service both units, including swapping out the filters (ours are not easy to reach, unfortunately) and testing the systems prior to the advent of summer heat/winter cold.

The technicians arrive on time, are courteous and skilled. We especially commend Emanuel Villarreal, who did the Super Tune-up on our HVAC in spring 2024. It turned out that altho both systems worked fine, there was a connection that was not properly installed, so the HVAC was not working at its highest efficiency.

He spent several hours fine-tuning both systems, and the house does seem even more comfortable than before. Many thanks to Emanuel and we highly recommend Perfect Star!

I'm only sorry now we didn't spring for the heat pump system, in view of PG&E's actions. However, this is not our 'forever' home, so we didn't feel the additional expense was justified.

Professional, courteous, hardworking. Very impressed with how the crew carried themselves, I would recommend them to anyone. It's great to see young men taking pride in their craft, GREAT WORK!

Juan, the tech, was more into selling me a new unit. Knowing that my air conditioner unit was old. He said that the unit needed r22 refrigerant and that they no longer produced. He said it best to just replace the unit. Luckily, I had a different company come out to check Perfect Star work. I do not recommend this place to anyone!

I highly recommend this company. I interviewed 4others, and they are the best in East Bay. Their technicians are very knowledgeable and professional, and they take their time to explain my issues and offered great products. Price wise, they're the most reasonable price of all.
