Performance Autowerk was born of a simple desire to do German auto service, auto repair and maintenance the right way, the way that BMW, Mercedes, Porsche, Audi, Volkswagen and Land Rover engineers, race teams and enthusiasts would do the work on the assembly line! We help you maintain your vehicle to the same stringent standards that it left the factory with. We install only original equipment or performance modification parts with pedigree, parts that have stood the test of time and proven reliable and up to the task of keeping your vehicle on the road and trouble-free. Our attention to detail is meticulous and we're proud of it. We will return your vehicle, after repairs, appearing as it should: cable ties and clamps correctly oriented, leaks washed down, and free of fingerprints. Over the years the local car clubs have provided friendship and a vast knowledge base. We are proud to support local BMW, Mercedes, Porsche, Audi, Volkswagen and Land Rover owners groups. Provide us with evidence of your membership and we will discount 15% from the labor cost on all of your maintenance and repairs. We are right next to the West Dublin BART station. Most repairs can be performed in one business day, so drop off your vehicle, hop on BART and swing by on your way home to pick it up. Our team is very enthusiastic about what we do, and we look forwarding to meeting you at Performance Autowerk soon!

Excellent all around experience at Performance Autowerk. My Audi A6 was in bad shape with fluid leaking and a severe engine rumble. Despite not having an appointment, Rich quoted me in person and got my car fixed within a few days. The difference was night and day and it felt like I had a new car. Rich is a great guy and you can tell he knows his stuff. His ability to diagnose and explain the issue in a simple, honest, and friendly manner is impressive and makes you feel like you're spending your money properly. Highly recommend to anyone that needs German automotive work.

I bring my 2022 Audi S5 sportback here for all of my services and oil changes. They take great care of my car, and are super honest about what is needed and what is not. I work a hybrid schedule since the pandemic, and don't put as many miles on my car as I used to, and had a notification that my car was due for service. I made an appointment, but when I arrived, they looked at my mileage and said that it was not actually due for service, as the notification comes on either for time or distance, and in my case it was just based on time but I hadn't put in the mileage to warrant the service yet. I appreciated the honesty, and came back when I actually hit the mileage that warranted having the service done.
Performance Autowerk are experts in European cars, and I wouldn't trust my custom-ordered Audi with just anyone. Come for the expertise and integrity - you won't be disappointed.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Nils E.Pleasanton, CA02988Jul 3, 2024
I've always preferred indie mechanics. But my old mechanic couldn't diagnose a problem, so I took my BMW here after experiencing engine hesitation and misfires. The mechanic said he couldn't really test the injectors, but said I probably needed new injectors, or new turbo bypass valves, possible valve cover. Said he smoke tested it. Even better, the invoice said they "SMOKE TESTED THE HELL OUT OF IT" and found no leaks. He gave me an estimate for all of the above. We both agreed I'd take it for further consideration.
In despair, I finally took it to the dealer the next week. The dealership had it for twenty minutes when they sent me a video of smoke pouring out of my injector holes. Seals were gone. Basically disintegrated.
My old mechanic replaced those injectors 8,000 miles ago. They probably didn't compress the seals correctly during installation so they kept quiet and said they didn't know. Performance Autowerk probably smoke checked it and decided they'd rather sell me a lot of stuff instead of telling me what the issue was. Oddly, the dealer was the only honest one of the group! I fixed the seals myself, and apparently the holes didn't get ovaled yet because it's been running fine now for about a year.
Really disappointed. You should have seen the smoke! There is no way they smoke tested it. Or they did, and wanted to do more work. IDK.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Terry S.Pleasanton, CA4410May 10, 2024
I just spoke to Rich regarding to my Porsche Macan. I feel I might need coolant flush because I top off a universal coolant (small amount) and regret after.
Rich gives me quite details and make me feel more comfortable that I shouldn't worry about it. Although my car doesn't need service now but I know this is the shop I will use moving forward!
I usually don't like to leave review since I feel I am liable to what I recommend but I want to leave a good review this time because it is difficult to find a good mechanic that you can trust.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - David T.San Ramon, CA706719Jun 21, 2024
I have been a client of the Performance Autowerk team for over 10+ years, and have gone to them for a variety of maintenance and repair needs for different European makes and models (BMW X5 Diessel, Mercedes E-Class, Porsche Cayenne eHybrid). They are very reasonably priced compared to dealerships, but most importantly they are very honest and knowledgeable with their recommendations. Rich and his team are absolutely amazing. Very highly recommend.

-Rich is really helpful, and informative. He demonstrates he actually wants the best for his clients. -The rates are fair and affordable.
-Great communication and outstanding services.
I get calls from Rich to let me know updates on the car. He is very transparent. For example, I had a software issue that only my dealership could help me with, but he gave me advice on how to talk to them and ask for good faith work.
In the past I've always felt like I couldn't trust my auto mechanics and that consumer relationship has been broken so many times. I definitely feel like my car is in good hands and that Rich is trustworthy and reliable.
Also his computer mouse is in the shape of a blue car that lights up!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Katie B.Castro Valley, CA01Jun 17, 2024
Fast work and very transparent! Took my older
Mercedes C300 in to replace an intake manifold and had an excellent experience. Very kind and welcoming staff members who were very transparent about the issues with my vehicle. Reasonable rates compared to other local mechanic shops. Would 100% recommend!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Larry G.Oakland, CA37Jul 8, 2024
Excellent customer service! I had a coolant leak and the manager (Rich) was able to get my car fixed in less than 2 hours. The parts delivery hours were closed, but he went to pick it up immediately after confirming the part was in stock.

Recently brought my BMW X5 here for new brake pads and rotors as well as a further diagnosis of an oil pan leak. Very satisfied with the visit. Rich and team are upfront about price and are honest about work that is essential vs not.

Rich and the Performance Autowerk team are fantastic. I've taken my 2007 A4 Avant here on three occasions (a carbon clean, valve cover/black smoke, exhaust issue) and you get nothing but quality work here.
Most recently, I had black smoke and acceleration stutter when climbing hills or getting onto the freeway and did my own DIY replacement of coils, plugs, and valve cover to fix the issue. These are the things Rich wanted to start diagnosing, but he was inclined enough to ask me if I had done any recent work and instead of "put me on the clock" to check these things anyway, he scratched them from his notes and dug deeper.
Rich was honest about my DIY valve cover replacement (non-OEM not recommended) and said he couldn't move forward until an OEM valve cover was in place -- and even then, that still might not fix the issue at hand. Upon replacing (and still stuttering/ smoking) they turned next to the intercooler pipes, which were full of oil and after draining them out, fixed the problem!
Rich has taught me to invest in quality parts as well as quality service when it comes to these Audis. You get what you pay for and you'll realize that quickly after Rich fixes your problems you've spent months trying to solve for!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 1Aug 9, 2018Previous reviewThis is now my go-to place for my Audi. I had a recent exhaust installation (done by a different shop) and after the install I was hearing a tapping noise while driving. I had brought it back to the exhaust shop and they were unable to find the problem.
Brought it in to Rich and he quickly found out they had bent the heat shield back far enough (when creating space between the shield and the exhaust pipe) to where the drivetrain balancing weight was tapping the shield on each rotation. Although it ripped a small hole in the heat shield, Rich saved me from having to take it to a dealership to get looked at and only cost me $25. Seriously!
