Prestine Drycleaners & Laundromat

I have been doing my laundry here for yrs now but I'm getting to the point where I think I'll be looking for another laundromat. The laundry room and dry cleaners are housed in the same building. The owner hasn't renovated the place in years and the washers seemed to be out of order more so now. Not good if it's busy. The staff from the dry cleaner part of the business are helpful but I see their frustrations when help is needed from customers who don't know the machines. It takes them away from their dry cleaning duties. Some machines have special quirks to get them to operate properly. They sometimes need a good bang or swift kick start.Haha. The washing machines are old and dated from the 1970's. Two of the 3 larger washers haven't been operational for months now. The dryers work good with the occasional gentle fist persuasion at the coin slot to get it to register your deposits. The floor is horrible so don't let your children crawl around. Although the prices are reasonably and this is the only laundromat in the neighbourhood, it sure needs to be upgraded.

Whenever I'm in Victoria, I stay at the Hotel Grand Pacific, and sadly, they have no laundry room.

So I went on a adventure and discovered Prestine, which was a 5 minute walk south from the hotel.

It's a small laundromat, but was not busy at all. Seems like the place is old, but everything was working fine, and there's always a attendant on duty. They have detergent and dryer sheets for sale in a vending machine that are $1 each (only takes quarters).

Washer is $3 per load and holds a large amount. Took about 30 minutes to finish.

Dryers are a quarter for 4 minutes, and it took about 30 minutes to dry, so about $2.

If you feel like waiting, just know there is no wifi. However, there is a coffee shop, convenience tour, Sushi place, and a Subway right next door.

Glad I know this place is here for when I'm in town.

Although the dry cleaning was completed really well, it took three full days before we could pick up our one suit and it returned at almost double the price of another local shop. The staff was not helpful and knew very little about the cleaning that would be performed on our items. The hours are competitive as it is opened late, which adds to convenience if you are in the downtown area.

I wish they could clean it up.. Scuffed surfaces, mold in the soap compartments, holes in the walls, broken machines, out of order signs, things are not well cleaned nor maintained.

If I could give negative stars I would. My dress was "drycleaned" here and it came back to me absolutely ruined and completely unwearable. When I called back to let the person know that something had gone wrong in their process and the colors from the print on my dress had ran, they flat out said I was wrong and that the dress had come to them like that. I have never experienced such poor customer service. If you want to wear your clothes again, go to any other drycleaner.

Besides having to give some of the washers and dryers "a good whack" so they don't eat your coins, this place is pretty good. The attendant is SUPER friendly and never complains that I go up to her a million times asking for change. Overall, it is somewhat expensive but, after looking up the prices for other laundromats in Victoria, it seems very comparable. It is walkable distance to our apartment so that is always a huge bonus.

I don't go to laundormat's very often. At home I have a washer and dryer. But traveling in Victoria I wanted to do some laundry. Maybe this is standard, but I found the prices a little high. For example I stuck a quarter in the dryer, and I only got 4 minutes of time. So $1 would equal 16 mins. That's not enough to dry a med-large load. For me this was the closest laudnromat, and everything was neat and clean, good soap slections and such. But the cost sort of dissapointed me.

Rubbish. This is the closest laundromat to my house and all I can say is I'd rather waste gas going elsewhere. First and foremost, they argue with customers about the hours clearly posted on their wall. (last load is 3:30pm on weekends) The machines are old, and the entire store needs a reno (which they can obviously afford for the crazy amount of money people will pay for clean clothes). Today though, was the last straw. I filled two dryers and left, and upon my return one had been opened, clothes spilling out of it, still soaking wet. The woman came out with a snooty attitude and told us we had overfilled it and that it opened itself, though the dryer latched so there's no way in hell it could have opened on its own. That means $4 not including what i had to add to finish the load wasted on a dryer that didn't perform the service i paid for due to tampering. I had sat for ten minutes prior to leaving the running dryer and it was having no issues with the load it had, and wouldn't it have opened when the clothes were heavier and more wet??? Upon return the second time for my still damp clothes, the only person in sight was a seven year old boy, no adult supervision whatsoever. Will only use this service if my life depended on it (or if all the other local laundromats go out of business, but I'd still look for alternatives)
