Very prompt and professional. Installed water softener straps as expected and was able to make adjustments to the job according to my needs. Happy with the work they have done so far.

Moved a 220V from wall in the garage to another. They were very professional and clean. Showed up on time & Completed the project on time.

Proper Hour did a great job! The handyman they sent was professional, kind, and quick. Their customer service was responsive, and they called me after the work was completed to confirm there were no issues.

Will definitely use their services again.

Bait and switch!
We chose this handyman despite higher quote than others because they said they are licensed handyman. But they sent in one who could not communicate in English. We were at site all time, the worker made a bigger hole than before, and did not put moisture barrier underneath. When asked, he said his job is only replaced the frame. If asked anymore, he could not understand. The remote leader could not help much, instead ask us to award him more business to cure the problem. Sorry, that is how is worked.

Extremely Frustrated with Their Service

I hired Proper Hour Handyman Service to replace my water softener, thinking it would be a simple job since I already had the replacement on hand. I'm no expert on water softeners, so I trusted them to handle it. Big mistake.
Here's what went wrong:

1) 5 Home Depot Trips:
The guy they sent showed up without the right parts. He made 5 trips to Home Depot--that's not an exaggeration. First, he got the wrong size pipes, then realized the store didn't even carry the size he needed. I even had to go buy salt myself. Then he had to go buy washers (see Leaky Pipe Mess below), then finally again for a new pipe. Seriously, how do you not plan for this stuff?

2) Leaky Pipe Mess:
After the installation, one of the pipes leaked. Not entirely his fault since the pipe was defective, but he insisted it was just a washer problem. I asked him to replace the pipe, but he ignored me and tried to rig a solution with a washer. Of course, it didn't work, he even made a trip to Home Depot for replacement washers, and when that didn't work, he finally made the last trip to Home Depot to replaced the pipe. By then, we'd wasted hours!

3) Bypass Confusion:
Once the job was "done," the water softener wasn't working. The worker noticed that the water wasn't flowing when the valve was in the "on" position, so he just set it to bypass mode because water flowed in that setting. He even claimed that water being off in the "on" position was normal. Trusting him, I let it go. Later, when I saw calcium spots in the dishwasher, I realized something was wrong. I reached out to them, but they couldn't send someone until the next day.

4) Dismissive Attitude and Manufacturer Advice:
When they finally came back, my wife was home. They looked at the system and argued with her, insisting it was fine--even though it was still in bypass mode. I called her after they left, and nothing had been fixed. Frustrated, I reached out to the water softener manufacturer. They suggested the issue might be due to the riser cap not being removed during installation. I passed this info along, but Proper Hour Handyman Service insisted they installed it correctly. At this point, I'm beyond frustrated.

5) Slow Communication:
I'm still trying to get this resolved, but communication with them is painfully slow. Every time I reach out, it takes forever for them to get back to me. And there is a huge disconnect between phone operator, management, and technicians. This whole situation has dragged on far longer than it should have.

Final Thoughts:
They clearly have good ratings and probably do a good job most of the time. But what if things don't go well? This is what you're in for. It's easy to be happy when everything goes smoothly, but the real test of a company's character is how they handle mistakes. I really didn't want to write this negative review. I gave them multiple chances to fix the issue, and if they had done so, I would have been happy despite all the extra work and hassle it caused me. And this was a relatively small job--what if something went wrong with a more critical or larger project? I can even accept if the unit itself is faulty, but I cannot accept them gaslighting me by insisting that the bypass mode is the correct working position. Unfortunately, Proper Hour Handyman Service has shown they don't know how to fix what they did wrong, and that's a huge red flag. Do yourself a favor and avoid this company.

Update 1: 8/24/24 @ 3:15p
After posting this review, they called me. They claimed their technician doesn't know what's wrong, but defended themselves by saying they did nothing wrong. Instead of sending someone back out, they offered to issue a refund. I was frustrated that they didn't listen to me earlier when I pointed out the issue. With that, I decided to fix it myself. And guess what? The riser cover was indeed the issue, just as the manufacturer had suggested.

I informed them that it was the riser cover, and they called again to get verbal verification of what was wrong. I reiterated that they didn't complete the job and that I expect a refund. They told me they'd inform the technician and get back to me about the refund. I will continue to update this review until this situation is fully resolved and let everyone know if they follow through with the refund.

They followed through with a full refund, appreciate it. I wish them well and hope the feedback is helpful for everyone.

I got some drywall repairs done through these guys. The work was done with great attention to detail. The problem was I. My ceiling and it is as good as new. Great paint and texture match. Couldn't ask for more. I'd like to stress again the technician was very meticulous. Great work at a reasonable price.

I reached out to Proper Hour regarding my shower clog and broken hand shower head, and was quickly given an estimate.

In giving me the estimate, Vadim also checked in to see if I had a concern with the quote and also asked for a link to the replacement part that I ordered to make sure it's the right one.

He was able to give me a time next day as well as additional times the following day, which I was grateful to have as it allowed me to offer some options to my tenants.

While we ultimately didn't end up moving forward because our tenant resolved one of the issues himself, my interaction was very positive and I can easily say I have found a handyman I've been looking for to do these jobs I need around the house, and will definitely hire Proper Hour next time.

I can't begin to explain how terrible it was working with Proper Hour Handyman.

From the get-go I should have known it was going to be a terrible working relationship. While I have no biases against those who speak different languages, it's a fact that it's harder to communicate expectations if you both aren't fluent. Unfortunately in this instance the technician they sent couldn't communicate fully in English, which I think was 1/3rd of the problem.

The management team was unresponsive at the best of times when communicating issues.

They were hired to patch and paint walls (minor screw holes) along with painting a couple walls and doing some touch up paint in the house. Finally refinishing countertops.

The walls were finished (not well) because they used the wrong paint in the hallway. I had to complain about the work because some of the patch work was cracked and not finished properly. And finally they ended up removing the countertop scope from my invoice because they couldn't actually finish it correctly. They left the countertops, dull and obviously unfinished.

In the end I had to pay another painter to do minor touch-up paint on what they already did. I also had to hire a stone refinishing company to complete the work as well.

They tried to gaslight me when I complained and insisted I pay for services before I confirmed if my countertops could be saved.

TLDR: Do not work with this company if you value good quality work.

Price is responsible and the scheduling is prompt. Highly recommend proper hour home services.
