When we replacing our windows we found out the entire front of our house was rotten. We were so lucky to have found James Quinn and his crew to help us out with this giant disaster. He came the same day that we called and and had the original stucco demoed and removed in just a couple of days. When we were done with the structural work he again was very responsive and flexible with our schedule to get the stucco done. The work exceeded expectations, was done in a timely manner and his workmanship was flawless. I have a construction background and it's very clear that James is an expert in his field. We hope we don't need any stucco work for a while but if we do we will 100% hire him again.

We decided to replace the stucco on our home - I met with a few stucco contractors, and James seemed to be the most knowledgeable and professional. He insisted that we wait for all of the new windows to be installed before starting work. My architect agreed despite the fact that the window installer said it would be fine to do the stucco first - I went with James' recommendation which was the right call. We couldn't be happier with the results - the quality and appearance is terrific.
James worked with me and was flexible with respect to timing (waiting for windows for over a year).
I had a small area that needed to be redone months after the work was otherwise completed and James sent a crew out, no questions.
I had two issues - one was bad communication (both of us) on the final inspection. I thought James did it and he assumed I had. I paid for an extension so no big deal.
The other issue was our landscaping - I didn't understand that they would be removing tons of old plaster and that would end up sitting on some of our plants. When I complained to James, he gave me a meaningful credit for new landscaping (and explained the situation). The credit ended up covering the cost of the new landscaping and then some.
Bottom line - I highly recommend Quinn Plastering - I don't think you will get a better result.
Before he starts work, I suggest you spend a few minutes with James going through expectations - things like damage to plants, permitting responsibilities, etc.Helpful 2Thanks 1Love this 0Oh no 0 - Kiesha R.San Francisco, CA161508Aug 31, 2021
From the moment we laid eyes on our 1912 Edwardian home, my husband and I knew that it *could* be the house of our dreams...if only it wasn't for that dang beige stucco.
Fast forward 7 years, and we decided to finally do something about it. After meeting a couple different folks, it became clear James not only had the experience, but the resources, professionalism and demeanor necessary to work through a substantial home project. For example, upon sharing with him that we had a challenging neighbor who was likely to openly complain and even interfere with the workers on site, James assured us he would handle it. Naturally, it only took a day or two of work for the first complaints to be lodged, and James indeed approached the gentleman professionally and courteously - without compromising the job - never to hear a peep again.
Additionally, while cost isn't everything, it is certainly a point of consideration for most. And we were very pleasantly surprised to see that his bid for the very same work, including process and materials, came in notably lower than another respected professional in the city. The only difference was that we acquired our own permits for the job and street parking (time-intensive at the outset but not nearly as painful as I'd feared), but even accounting for that cost, we came out ahead.
Best of all, after just a few weeks of actual labor (!), our house now truly is that of our dreams - it's literally as though we bought a new one and the compliments keep coming. We couldn't be happier!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 2 - Pamela J.San Francisco, CA02Feb 14, 2022
Dry rot consumed the entire front of my home, and the wood decay also made its way up the exterior stairwell and both sides of the wall. After the dry rot repair, I met with James Quinn, the owner of Quinn Plastering. My general contractor appreciated his work and fair price and hired the company to put new stucco on my house. They did an excellent job!
Quinn's craftsmanship is remarkable; it redefined my Marina-style home. The attention to precise details added character and curb appeal to my house that wasn't there before. I live near public transportation people who walk by my home, and neighbors have commented my house looks the nicest on the block.
Watching James Quinn and his team at work allowed me to observe the stucco process and realize it is truly an art form that Quinn's Plastering has down!
I highly recommend Quinn Plastering for your plastering needs!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - David W.San Francisco, CA99Jan 26, 2020
Quinn Plastering did a project for me re-doing the paper, flashing, and stucco on an exterior wall that was leaking into the house. On-time every day, great work, on-budget, and local to SF. Definitely recommended.

We have been working with Quinn Plastering for over 10 years on everything from stucco to Venetian plaster. We appreciate QP's attention to detail and level of professionalism. We can always count on them to stand by their work and make sure it is up to our high expectations. We have built a strong relationship with them over the years and look forward to continuing work with them in the coming decade. We would gladly recommend them to anyone.

The quality of their work is unparalleled, in my opinion. In a trade with fewer and fewer practitioners in San Francisco, Quinn Plastering has been a go-to resource for us for nearly 7 years. We've never been disappointed by their work, and their rates are competitive and fair. The crew is very careful when working in live-in areas while performing repairs, and they maintain a clean jobsite throughout the plastering process -- no easy task. These guys should be your first call for large scale plastering jobs.

James, owner of Quinn plastering is tops in his field. I wish I could give him 10 stars.
We had stucco applied several years ago to our bay windows on a two story home front here in San Francisco after having new dual pane windows installed. Unfortunately it was done under substandard work and substandard plaster supplies. Years later we has cracks and rust spots coming through with subsequent water damage to the wood beneath.
But.... James to the rescue. He answered our call for an estimate the same day. He scheduled an appointment the next day and explained in detail the problems we had with the previous shoddy job.
James gave us an estimate to remove and replace the stucco on the window boxes and resurface the existing stucco on the frontage and lobby area. This included any work needed to dry rot. Although a bit higher than other estimates it seemed fair and competitive. ( You get what you pay for ) We were confident that James was going to deliver the quality and expertise he demonstrated in our interview with him.
He was very easy to talk to and invited us to ask questions so we fully understood the process, materials used etc. Very pleasant and professional.
His workers were always on time for the scheduled days and easy to work with. There was a manager always on site with the workers. They were quick, efficient and always left the site cleaned up at days end.
The end product was beyond my expectations. They ensured all vertical and horizontal lines on the stucco edges were precise and level. The product James used ( acrylic stucco in sand finish ) was absolutely stunning. And the colors we picked out from the chart were spot on.
We highly recommend James for premium stucco work. You won't be disappointed.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Ana d.San Francisco, CA323Apr 25, 2012First to Review
Totally happy with the work that James Quinn does--no surprise extra charges, keeps deadlines and the work is beautiful. I had an Edwardian house with rather miserable walls in the dining room that had been damage from former tenants (not to mention the mold). Quinn was able to work magic on the walls and turned my dining room walls into a thing of beauty with the Venetian plastering; I would only use the picture molding--no nails would touch those walls. Later when we sold the house, prospective buyers always gave many compliments about the walls; the texture is so amazing. As of recently I used Quinn plastering to help re-texture a large retaining wall to install a 12'x16' mural; Quinn again was able to take an unruly (and in this case useless) wall and create a canvas for my creativity.
