It's located at a very pleasant and happening part of Palo Alto. The restaurant vibe is good and has options to sit inside or outside.
The service is prompt and pretty polite.
The food is also very good in taste and flavorful.
We tried Samosa and Palata with veg Curry for small plates which was very tasty.
For main dish, we tried Garlic noodles with chicken and Mango chicken. Noodles were good enough spicy to complement Mango chicken which was sweet-spicy mixture.
Overall it was a good experience with the only exception - quantity. Compared to prices, the quantity seems a bit less but maybe the food itself shrouds that fact makes you want to eat more.

I love this place! This is my go-to when getting Burmese food in Palo Alto. I love all their Burmese dishes like mohinga, coconut noodle soup, and their noodle salads. I also got the Burmese tea this time and it was great!

Service is good here. I don't feel like we waited too long for our food or the check.

The inside is nice. It feels very modern and formal, so it's also a good place to go for a fancy dinner.

      1 check-in

Westernized Burmese cuisine in upscale downtown PA

Tea leaf salad (4/5) - probably the best thing we had. It was a little tangy, nutty, savory with plenty of tea leaves, but not much of anything else other than a bit of corn, fried garlic, and cabbage leaves. Both the waiter and menu said there would be dried shrimp in it, but I didn't notice any. Flavor was great.

Palata (3/5) - similar to a roti or a layered pancake. It came served with a bit of coconut chicken curry

Ohnoh kwat swe (2/5)- a modest pot of curry with a bit of chicken and noodle. I wished they'd packed it with more goodies.

Prices seem low, but they compensate for it by serving smaller portions. If I had a craving for tea lead salad, I'd order it to go.

Oh my god, the service here was AMAZING! We came on Saturday evening and were blessed to have a sweet waitress with two pink hair strands. She was the sweetest ever and gave us amazing recommendations based on what we liked. She took extra time to explain dishes to us and what they would be like. The ambiance was lovely and lively. The room lights were dim, which was a perfect vibe for dinner.

I ordered the Tea Leaf salad, which was amazing; I kept going back for more. It tasted healthy while having a perfect amount of flavor. For my entree, I ordered Basil Chili Chicken with coconut rice. I swear I could have eaten a massive bowl of just that coconut rice. It was soft and fluffy, with the perfect amount of flavor and sweetness. It made all the other food taste even better. The chicken was great as well!

I didn't have a chance to try the sticky sesame rice, which will be a must-eat for me next time I come. After eating here, I am more obsessed with Burmese food!

love the food so much, the perfect level of spice!! Only thing I was slightly disappointed by was the mango tofu just because there was very little mango. Overall a great dinner spot!

8/7/2023: As always when traveling, I never know whether a restaurant I dined decades ago still exists. Therefore, I find it's imperative religiously checking YELP! searching excellent, enjoyable, dining reviews and more importantly, the establishment's location which I greatly depend logistically such as parking close to the restaurant as well as attending my next business appointment.

First I must mention, I was tired eating questionable, ". . . What kind of food is THIS?," i.e., not knowing whether the food served at establishments are either organic, GMO or PLASTIC/FAKE VEGAN . . . Second, I vehemently, seriously reject inhaling fake Chinese, Hawaiian or WHATEVER bland cuisine found in El Dorado/Placer/Sacramento Counties . . . Third, I wanted raising my olfactory senses inhaling exotic spices, and finally, fourth, I wanted eating organic, Halal quality vegetables, fruit, and meat:

Welp~Rangoon Ruby was close fulfilling all my preferential requirements . . . As depicted by all the photos I took:

Surely, the flavors highly satisfied my olfactory senses despite, my dining bill was highly exorbitant. Nevertheless, I will return to Rangoon Ruby inhaling more of their mesmerizing spices used for their Burmese Cuisine, indeed!

Haven't been to this place for almost a decade. Wanted to introduce my bestie to tea leaf salad or Burmese cuisine since she never had it before. The tea leaf salad still tastes the same as I remembered - flavorful, nutty and delicious. As for the salt and pepper fish and garlic noodles, it was just ok nothing special about it. Each dish's cost about $20 and portion size was decent. I would come back for the salad since it's quite special and it's something that can't be order elsewhere due to its uniqueness. The service is good and plenty of seatings.

This is like the second time I had Burmese food. Can't really complain about something I've never tried too much of regularly.

The chicken biryani was flavorful. Chicken was slow-cooked with slightly sweet rice and raisins.

The pad thai tasted very similar to thai pad thai.

The tea salad was ok...first time eaters may not be used to it having a bit more oil than American or japanese salads

Hosts were super attentive to get us seated before the next table due to arrive in an hour but our waitress looked slightly displeased that we didn't get started with any drinks, which can run 12 bucks for a thing of coconut juice.

Crowd could remind one of your typical trying to be PC and cultured/ to try something more "ethnic" from time to time but wouldn't dare try it if it were really in a hole in the wall type place but if it's got white linen table cloth & wine selection it's a different story--

A staple in Palo Alto down town, in Stanford's stylish serene hood. The fermented tea leaf salad was unique. Somewhat of an acquired taste, with strong bold flavor and a nice mix of seeds and seasoning.

The Rangoon noodles with a red sauce and beef kabat were really nicely flavored and satisfying. My only complaint is that I wanted more!!

Service! Oh boy. Where to begin. We weren't handed menus or even directed to the QR code. I had to ask for a menu. We sat with our menus for a while and eventually I had to wave down our waitress so we could order. We were checked on once. I also had to wave her down to get more water.

      We ordered:

Tea Leaf Salad: It was good. The dressing is different and fresher than other Burmese restaurants I've been to. I thought it needed more salt.

Nan Gyi Dok: This is one of their highly recommended dishes. The chicken was good - tender and flavorful. The noodles were mushy. Not sure if that's how it's supposed to be. I thought it would have more bite.

They had outdoor seating. It was a little chilly out side so we ate indoors. It wasn't full so it seemed dim and depressing.

I visited Rangoon Ruby, and unfortunately, my experience this time was quite disappointing. Despite being a repeat customer, the food didn't meet the usual standards, and the overall dining experience left much to be desired.

The service was notably slow, and it added to the frustration of an already underwhelming meal. We ordered the Tea Leaf Salad, a dish we usually enjoy, but this time it tasted off and didn't match our expectations. The lack of flavor in all the dishes was a major letdown.

Our choice of noodles, including the Vegetarian Burmese Pad Thai and Garlic Noodles, turned out to be quite average. The flavors didn't stand out, and I was left unsatisfied with the overall quality of the food.

It's disheartening when a favorite restaurant fails to deliver on the expected culinary delights, and this visit to Rangoon Ruby was unfortunately one of those instances. I hope they can address these issues in the future, as I've had much more enjoyable experiences in the past.
