The Recology Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) pick-up service is the best! Today, Saturday, May 18, two Recology employees, Carlos and Francesco, arrived during my appointment window to take away my HHW. There were courteous, friendly, professional and efficient. This service meant I didn't have to navigate my way across town in traffic and then try to locate the drop-off site on Tunnel Road. Thanks. Herb

Recologysf charges so much and doesn't do its job. All our houses are full of crap because they want you go to their dump to charge you even more. Also the website says something and in real life it's not true. It's very frustrating to not know what to do with your garbage. WE ARE PAYING A SERVICE!!!!!!

Reposting to include photos. See below part of the damage recently done to our building by Recology Sunset Scavenger 'black bin' pickup guy. The metal track on our door was misaligned, and the line the door traverses up and down on went totally slack. The door wouldn't go all the way to the ground, which left us unsecured and the door not lockable the first three times out of seven damage was done to the door by the same employee. There is a LOT of foot and car traffic in this Outer Sunset area due to crowds coming to the Upper Great Highway for exercise, surfing, and to walk dogs.
The 'black bin' employee flew into a rage after being reminded we have outside Monday only pickup of our green bin.
He slammed our wooden garage door so hard major damage was done to the tune of $150.00 which Recology Sunset Scavenger management refuses to reimburse us for.
Their customer service doesn't answer the phones; Outer Sunset manager hangs up on women; and customers are routinely punished when trying to communicate their needs/wishes. Retaliation and immaturity and a complete lack of professionalism is rampant throughout.
Though they are are employee-owned, there IS a way that the public can make a formal complaint and be heard.
Do it through calling 311, or telephone Environmental Health, under the Department of Public Health, Solid Waste Program.
Telephone: (415) - 252-3872, Monday through Friday. They are off for lunch 11:45 AM to 1:00 PM.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Aug 10, 2021Previous reviewA total joke. For years we had once a week outside pickup of green bin. We found out they changed the schedule to twice a week, inside, by them no longer picking up bin outside. Cannot get them to follow their own schedule or pick-up notes in the file, on the cans, and on prominent notes next to the bins. Repeated calls have been made requesting outside pickup only up of green bin. That request has been confirmed to be in their files, but the drivers sneak inside on 'off' days to pick up green bin contents, which usually is only shredding put in bottom bin to help keep it clean.
Recently they started picking up black bin on Sundays. Now they are coming into garage 4 days a week, Sunday, Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. We only have 6 tenants, don't need or want that many pickups, but they won't stop. Either blatant retaliation and snubbing of their noses to their customers, or a sneaky way to raise rates.
Customer Service and area supervisor non-responsive. Supervisor hangs up on female callers. Black bin pickup guy now breaks our door every time he comes into garage. Three times after he'd been here garage door wouldn't lock, left building unsecured and vulnerable. (Area is full of extra people and traffic because Upper Great Highway is closed.) 7 times Landlord or son or both have had to come to fix what Sunset Scavenger driver is deliberately doing to our garage door.
Driver has been nicely talked to, shown damage, asked to stop whatever he is doing. He says it's our door, not him. It isn't. It only happens when the black bin is picked up by Sunset Scavengers. The initial slamming of door cost building owners over $150.00 to get door back on track. Now it won't close all the way to the ground.
In addition, Their customer service people routinely send out e-mails asking how they did, but they immediately close them out so customers can't reply. And they don't answer their phones. I waited 35 minutes several days ago to talk to someone in customer service around 2:15 PM, phone never answered. Sad how the company has gone downhill. We used to be able to contact their supervisor and get results. Can't now. We are either ignored, or property is deliberately destroyed with every single pickup.
cc: Files 8/10/2021Apr 2, 2019Previous reviewDirty work, to be sure. And some of the guys who pickup are really gruff. That isn't the concern, though. The problem is they pickup three times a week instead of two; and pickup outside bins from inside. Plus they can't be reached by telephone, nor do they respond to e-mails. In our case there have been numerous contacts made with the guys picking up the recycling and garbage; there are signs on the bins, on the wall, and on the water tank right next to the green bin. All are ignored. They obviously don't care about the customers or doing their jobs correctly. Plus they don't communicate changes when they make them. The only real contact you can make with them is in reference to paying your bill. I'd give them no stars at all because of the way people in the Outer Sunset between Kirkham and Lawton at 48th are treated, if I could. No customer service, and the drivers always say it wasn't them - must have been another driver.

I know that Sunset Scavenger probably doesn't give 2 patoots about Yelp reviews.
Overall they do what they are supposed to do, but OUR Route Driver for trash and compost misses our bins a lot of the time, even though I put them OUT in a convenient and conspicuous spot in front of our driveway.
It's super easy to them, too. Maybe our route driver has a personal problem with us? We don't tip enough?
50 dollars a year isn't good enough for you?Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Garret R.San Francisco, CA0346Apr 15, 2021
They might as well merge with the DMV the way they operate. They could form, The League of Super Incompetence. I'd imagine they go around interrupting people's days and using their super ability to waste their time.
I'm web savvy and need a night's rest after trying to pay 1 bill online. They have more security than the Pentagon. It's a maze of broken forms and verification emails they don't even send. And for what? To really, really make sure nobody pretends they're me and pays my bill?Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Scott B.San Francisco, CA1116Aug 18, 2022
BAYVIEW: I can't imagine how difficult it is to pick up and dispose of garbage every single day. Here is to the garbage men who pick up and dispose of our tons of garbage we create every single day. Do they make mistakes? Sure, they are only human. The new guys make a few more mistakes. That is part of the job. If you think you can do better, go apply to be a garbage truck driver who works solo at 4am every dang day. Here is to the brave strong men who dispose of our garbage. Thank you! Thank you! Thank You!

What type of business with loud trucks and noisy processes operates at 6am in the morning?
If I lived in San Francisco, I'd revisit this flawed system and mandate nothing occurs before 10am, so trucks don't get in the way of commuters in both road obstruction and pure noise pollution.
As a visitor, the varied colored garbage bins are a tad confusing and maybe a product of micro-management that is too granular. I think, in that way SF and their "green" (environmental) initiatives as well as perceived help benefits for the underprivileged are sometimes a bit overboard if you analyze whether "are they giving fish, or teaching fishing skills for sustainable survival?"Helpful 5Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - Bob D.SoMa, San Francisco, CA022Dec 22, 2022
Recology Sunset Scavenger trucks have been spreading puddles of glass and garbage all over the streets of San Francisco. They must be overloaded or defective trucks. Many streets are now covered in glass and/or garbage. This has been going on for a while.

You'd think the occasional full bin would be overlooked. But no, it's like if these guys can't close the top of the bin perfectly, well too bad, no trash collection for you that week!
