Residual Sugar

Ok, so we all know that Walnut Creek is not exactly a "nightlife" destination, but even us tame suburbanites need a place to let loose once in a while. Residual Sugar has become my go-to for those nights. It never get's "wild", but is reliably lively on the weekends. The crowd is undeniably middle-class, but a nice mix of ages, styles, and levels of intoxication. Yes, there's always one of those.

I love the vibe because it feels both effortless and exciting. Most of the seating is at the bar, making for a cozy date night or easy spot to chat up some strangers. The decor is low-lit, modern, and cushy with leather-ish swivel bar stools and couches up front. Besides the lengthy wine list, they serve up some hefty charcuterie plates so you can (ideally) keep your buzz under control. The "Jeroboam" (3 cheeses, 3 meats) is a crazy good deal for $25.

The staff is great, and will take time to chat with you no matter how packed the place gets. A true neighborhood joint that's been warmly welcomed by local winos...myself proudly included.

I love this place. Best spot for a nightcap in WC as far as I'm concerned. My wife and I regularly end our date nights here.

The staff are friendly, helpful, and so welcoming, and the selection of wines is great in my humble opinion.

I had this place bookmarked to visit next time I was in Walnut Creek and finally got to check it out last night!

Cozy, cute vibe with a wall of wine and lots to choose from including specially curated flights! Went with bubbles the first time around and let them choose the second which was a great California Cab!

Service was fantastic through the night and we enjoyed a local cheese board to accompany our wine !

Had a great time and will definitely return to try more of their food options and some wine flights!

I absolutely loved coming here! I wasn't sure what to expect the first time I came because it was a last minute decision but it completely exceeded my expectations. The service was excellent and their wine selections are very delicious.

The ambiance was great. Service was attentive. Great place for 1st date. Food was decent. The selection of wine was choice of our server which she made a great choice from the type of wine preference

My friend and I liked the concept of a wine bar so we decided to stop by after dinner one night. Very chill vibes and cute holiday decor as well at the time. Their wine menu is extensive and they even let you taste a sip of up to 3 different wines on the menu before ordering if you're unsure like we were. Our server was friendly and informative of the different wine options!

Dropped in to have a glass of wine while visiting Walnut Creek recently. Ended up going back later in the evening to close out the night cuz it was such a cute place with a great selection of wines!

Popped in for a glass of wine and snacks before a show. The wine was good and the food was tasty. The staff was also very friendly. Next time I will stay longer and have more to say.

Cozy place for happy hour, the staff is super friendly but the menu is a bit pricey...overall, great fun, decent apps and higher priced wines per glass. Would probably want to see about trying it again if I was in the area.
