My younger niece thinks it's random that I will drive and bus all over the city to go to very specific restaurants, especially ones I haven't tried before. When my brother and his partner were out of town for a few days last year, I took his teenage kids out to dinner so that they would have some non-screen time and/or actually acknowledge each other. My nephew only came with us to Roam; my niece ate out with me all three nights.

Having recently gotten his license, my nephew was more interested in learning the geographic relationship that Union Street has to the Marina and the rest of San Francisco over the crest of Pacific Heights. I also let him drive, so he was parallel parking--very well for a beginner too--and nervous as all heck. When I realized we had parked three blocks farther away than I thought, she was annoyed, but he was excited.

OK, enough about my brother's kids. You want to know about the burgers. My nephew and I both had the veggie burger. Mine was BBQ style; his was French n' fries, I believe. Mine was so good. I don't know what they put in the barbecue sauce, but it is unique. Messy as all hell, but unique. My niece ordered a hamburger, but I don't remember which style she got. The fries were very good. I believe we had to wait a few extra minutes because they were just making a new batch of fries, and those minutes were definitely worth the added crispiness. The catsup is also delicious and different.

The interior is small but doesn't feel cramped. It's a comfortable place to eat, although I can imagine if it's busy that it gets very loud with all the hard surfaces.

Neither of them was wowed by the place, and on our way back to the car, my niece reminded me that my restaurant-seeking weirdness.

Since that first visit, I've had Roam to go on two occasions. First, it was a gathering in Golden Gate Park. My friend knew I was vegetarian, so she ordered for me. I actually didn't know where they had gotten the food from until we started eating. I had the veggie burger again, but I don't know what style it was, so I'm assuming it was the classic. I definitely would have preferred BBQ, but that really would have been a mess. I also shared some of another friend's salad, which was pretty bland. My second to-go experience was a milkshake for a lazy walk on Marina Green. It's pretty hard to make a bad milkshake, so the bar is pretty low, but Roam really kills it in the milkshake-making department as well.

To review: excellent veggie burgers, barbecue sauce, catsup, fries, and milkshakes; mediocre salads.

Give it a try or three after having had it bookmarked for more than a decade. I know I did!

      Came here for dinner.

      FRENCH N' FRIES, 15.5
Truffle Parmesan Fries, Brie, Avocado, Caramelized Onions, Greens, Worcestershire Sauce, Stone Ground Mustard
~4/5. Overall pretty tasty, and the meat was nice and juicy. Think it would have been better with some tomatoes and greens added.

      ZUCCHINI ONION HAYSTACK, 5.5
~3/5. Tasted okay, although a tad bit oily. Probably would have preferred the russet fries, but the onion haystack seemed unique.

Service was a bit mixed to start. We had a cashier that wasn't very attentive but then had a super nice and patient cashier that took our order.
I like the fact that we had hamburgers patty choices.
I had the fry-fecta, French n' fries burger, and salted caramel shake. Everything tasted good and would order again. Fries were a bit over salted but cooked just right.
Would like to come back and try other burgers and

Indoor & Outdoor Seating. Free, Two-Hour Residential Parking & Paid Meters. Laidback Ambiance. Affordable & Student Budget Friendly for SF. Pay at Register & Self-Seating. Kind & Attentive Service. Expansive Menu. Tasty Meals. Self-Serve Water & Condiment Station. See Below for More Info:

      Indoor & Outdoor Seating:
Roam Artisan Burgers offers indoor and outdoor seating. The indoor seating consists of bar chairs, small tables of two and four, and a long, communal table. The outdoor tables have a sturdy, wooden cover and are pet-friendly. However, if you are eating al fresco, I would recommend layering up, especially if you tend to run cold.

Free, Two-Hour Residential Parking & Paid Meters:
Roam Artisan Burgers has free, two-hour parking and paid meters in close proximity. The residential parking is on the streets intersecting Union and the surrounding blocks. There are no time restrictions if you have a G parking permit. The paid meters are along Union Street. However, the meters are free after 6pm Monday through Saturday and all day Sunday.

      Laidback Ambiance:
Roam Artisan Burgers has a laidback ambiance. Most diners are in athleisure at this casual but great dining option on Union Street.

Affordable & Student Budget Friendly for SF:
Roam Artisan Burger is an affordable and student budget-friendly option in San Francisco. My siblings and I attended or currently attend the public schools in the neighborhood and tend to go to Roam on our way home from school or if we are in the area. Sides and drinks start off at a few dollars while burgers are in the $10-$20 range.

We've been loyal Roam fans for a long time now (both this location and the location on Fillmore). Roam is just the best. Some of the best burgers and fries I've ever had. I consistently get the French and fries and it's phenomenal. Truffle flies are also delicious. Vibes of the restaurant are very fun with a more low key bar feel and the service is always great.

A classic burger spot in the area. These are more of "upscale" burgers in terms of price but the taste is also great. I personally love their shakes- all of their flavors are great and the fries are some of the best (though pricey). Definitely recommend for your burger fix.

Roam will definitely be a solid burger place in the area. With a great selection of burgers and appetizers, what's not to like about this place? I've been here a good number of times already and it's for sure worth the trip trying out. When you order your burger, you also get to choose how well done you want your burger patty to be.

I'm a sucker for eggs, and lowkey on a carb diet, so I decided to get the Sunnyside Burger with a butter lettuce wrap. The egg was ooey gooey, perfectly cooked. It was runny and it added so much texture to my burger. I normally usually get this one and if you love eggs, definitely order this one! This burger contains aged white cheddar, caramelized onions, greens, tomatoes, and their chili sauce. The chili sauce was definitely a surprise, but it worked!

The Classic Burger is composed of, butter lettuce, tomato, onions, pickles, and their house sauce. I felt like I needed to add an extra mmph to it so I added avocado as well.

The last thing was the Fry-Fecta! A composition of 3 fries: Zucchini, Sweet Potato, and of course the normal fries. What a great combination! And everything was seasoned very nicely.

I really recommend giving this place a try. It's a pretty good burger restaurant and I'm positive you won't be disappointed.

Came to this area to try another restaurant that turned out to be closed... it worked out because we stumbled on this cute little gem! It was close to closing time but the service was great! The shakes, burgers, and fries were slamming!

      I recommend it!
