Hi Samin, All of the meat served at SanDai is halal (not zabiha halal). We have a full service bar with mocktails and soft drinks available for non-drinkers. Thank you!

We went back to SanDai again today (thanks to Chef Nora for inviting us over for a complimentary meal!) and tried their Chicken Satay, Beef Sando, Beef Rendang and Nasi Goreng. All dishes today were excellent and it feels like that the last time we had come here, it might have been an off day for them. The food today was very well cooked and was very flavorful.
Chicken satay was on point like last time. The beef sando had a bust of flavors. The beef rendang was nice and soft!
Truly enjoyed the service as well. Overall, they definitely won our hearts this time around! Will be coming back with friends and family!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

Chicken breast was overcooked, the laksa lacked flavor. The tiger prawn was bland and drinks were okay. The only saving grace was the chicken satay. Extremely overpriced for the food and the service

It was a nice warm Saturday and I was visiting a friend in the Walnut Creek area. Knowing that I grew up in Singapore she recommended this restaurant which is an Indonesian Singaporean restaurant. The restaurant was located just off Main Street but it was in a popular bar/restaurant area and parking can be an issue. Since it was lunch time parking was ok.
There are two doors to the restaurant, one that enters through the coffee shop area and the other directly into the restaurant. Service was excellent and we had as great time with our server. I ordered the seafood fried rice and my friend ordered the burger as she was unsure of the various Indonesian dishes in the menu. Both items arrive quickly and I enjoyed the fried rice. The sambal had a nice level of spiciness so that it did not overpower the dish itself. My friend did enjoy the burger and the fries were nicely done.
Atmosphere was very quaint with items from Indonesia adorning the walls and shelves. I was intrigued by the wayang kulit puppets hanging on the wall. Only gripe was the price itself. Expect to pay about $35 per person tip included. The restaurant was about 65% occupied indoors and there is patio seating available.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0Business owner information

Great service and beautiful food, but what was presented did not match with the price. There wasn't that special factor to justify the price in my opinion.
I would go back, but more so for the coffee selections and to try their pastries. Food wise, if it was a third of the price, sure.
I tried their avocado kopi, and that was really good! 5 stars for that portion. Creamy, slight avocado flavor, can taste the espresso. Yum. My friend tried the coconut cappuccino and that looked amazing. Nice bruleed layer on top. Fancy!
If I recall correctly, my friend tried the gado gado (Romanesco, Brocollini, Beets, Balinese Black Rice, Beet Greens, Watermelon Radish, Roasted Peanut Sambal, Sambal Citrus Vinaigrette, Vegetable Chips) and they asked if she wanted to to add protein like tofu or shrimp, and she chose tofu. I'm sure the addition price was noted somewhere, but they didn't mention how much extra it'll be. It was good, but not omfg gotta get this again good, and simple bowl of veggies and tofu for around $30?? Cmon, get that at Urban Plates for a fraction of the cost or something.
I tried the mushroom congee since I was watching a show on Hulu and that was mentioned and I thought hmmm that sounds kind of amazing. What a disappointment! Extremely overpriced and they asked if I wanted egg in it and I said sure, and that was an additional $2 or $3. Congee with sesame oil, ginger, scallion, shiitake mushrooms, king oyster mushrooms, and a side of soy sauce for $24 before the egg addition. Ridiculous as it wasn't even that great. Edible, yes, but flavor wise and lack of mushroom flavor was disappointing. Texture of some of the items in there seemed off as well. It's like fancy restaurant portion size and pricing (appetizer-esque), but lacking that quality and flavor.
Good environment. Enjoyed the time here overall, but my food was just a no. One to two stars for that, but excellence on the caffeine.Helpful 7Thanks 2Love this 4Oh no 2Business owner information

My family and I had Sunday brunch here because my friend recommended it to me, and my goodness, it exceeded my expectations! From the food, to the service, to the ambiance, this place is a 10/10.
The Kopi Avocado was what we were looking forward to the most, and it did not disappoint! It was creamy, silky, and packed with avocado and espresso flavor! I've had avocado latte's before, but those were no comparison to SanDai's
For food, we had the Chicken & Waffle, Seafood Mee Goreng, and Nasi Lemak. They were all delicious! The chicken & waffle were coated in a sweet savory sauce. The seafood in the mee goreng were tender and perfectly cooked, and the noodles were salivating tasty and spicy The nasi lemak was 100% my favorite, as I had nothing like it before. The chicken was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. The coconut rice was flavorful with a good chew. The fried anchovies added a touch of salt with a fun crunch. And the sambal, OOH! It was the star of the show. Talk about kachow all the way to FlavorTown
This place was sooo good, I honestly cannot wait to go again! This time for dinner!Helpful 1Thanks 1Love this 1Oh no 0Business owner information

Came here for Happy Hour in the afternoon. Although the Kopi Avocado was heavenly, the food items I tried were just ok.
Kopi Avocado - easily the best coffee I've had this year. It was creamy, rich and aromatic. A little cup of heaven!
Curried Chicken Wings - although the wings were cooked well, the flavors weren't that strong.
French Fries with Sambal Aioli -the fries were crispy and tasty but I couldn't really taste any sambal. The aioli tasted more like thousand island sauce.
Although I was a bit disappointed with the food, would still be curious to come back and try the regular menu. In fact, I'd come back just for the decadent Kopi Avocado.Helpful 1Thanks 1Love this 1Oh no 0Business owner information

2.5/5 stars. My family is from Indonesia so I know a thing or two about authentic Indo/Malay food and this is certainly not it.
My friend and I came here on a Sunday afternoon so be advised they have a different menu than I posted below which is their brunch menu. Offerings are very limited and they don't offer the option to order from their main menu so I didn't like I was so limited to like 4 main dish offerings. There's also a coffee shop within the restaurant where they offer Kopi but we got a cup to go on our way out and it was very acidic and gave us a stomachache.
I knew walking in with the chic upscale ambience and the fact its in Walnut Creek that this food would not be authentic, but that's okay if its flavorful! Unfortunately, it was not. I ordered the Nasi Goreng and my girlfriend ordered the Nasi Lemak. I just don't understand how you have Indo/Malay/South East Asian food that is bland! How is that even possible given the flavors in this region? They completely Americanized this which again is fine, but there was no flavor. Portions were pretty good given I had left overs but pricing is absurd. Since they're going for upscale the price reflects that but paying $27 for 3 prawns and tons of rice is insane. Not to mention my prawn was undercooked as pictured below.
Service was just okay. We were seated quickly and she came a couple of times at first just to get our order in, but once we got our food we never saw our server again. Didn't fill up our water, and had to flag down someone else to get the check and a box. They really only got the 2.5 stars from my based on ambiance and okay portions. This place does not represent Malay food people, you've been warned.Helpful 5Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 3 - Jun 18, 2024
Came here for a friend's birthday brunch and service and food was absolutely amazing!
Seafood Mee Goreng- Noodles were al dente. A little bit sweet and hints of savory-ness. Scallops were nice and tender the shrimp on tip was nice grilled. There was also octopus that wasn't too chewy as well. Overall solid dish.
Nasi Goreng set- Rice was super flavorful. Coupled with the sauce on the side and the grilled prawns of skewers made this dish a nice and clean breakfast. Topped with an fried egg on the top with a runny yolk made this dish extra delectable.
Teh Halia- GInger milk tea was smooth and very soothing.Helpful 1Thanks 1Love this 1Oh no 0 - May 28, 2024
I really love the interior of the restaurant. Very clean and new, gave it a very modern, upscale lounge vibe.
I'm giving 2 stars because overall, my experience was just okay.. we came for brunch and I asked to be seatted at a bigger table for my party of 2 because we usually tend to order a lot and I hate feeling crowded on the table. There were plenty of tables and we were told no because there would be reservations. I had a feeling they were just saying that because they wanted to reserve the tables for parties of 3-4 & that's exactly what happened. After finishing our meals, of course all of those tables were still not occupied..
Anyways, we ordered the Ubud & Java Martini and these tasted amazing! Thank you to whoever made these drinks. But for $18 a drink, sheeshhhh!
For food we got the mushroom congee and added the 6 minute egg, Seafood Mee Goreng, & Nasi Lemak. I'd skip on the mushroom congee if I were you. For $24 you get a small bowl of bland, wet rice.. the consistency was not congee. I don't know what a six minute egg is, but I was expecting a soft boiled egg with creamy yolk, it was closer to a regular boiled egg.. the seafood mee goreng was good but nothing amazing. Very similar to the instant noodle. The Nasi lemak dish to me, didn't really seem like a cohesive dish, it was missing a sauce to tie everything together. It did come with a small paste on top of the rice. The rice could've been a lot heavier on the coconut. Overall the dish was just okay. I was looking forward to trying their beef rendang but that is only available on their dinner menu.
Overall, I think the restaurant is lovely, just way over priced with mid food. Selection isn't great. I'd recommend going to farm house or one of their sister restaurants.
The next time I come back, it would be to try the coffee. I'd love to try their other cocktails but not for $18+Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Shanna D.Wakefield, MA0392Sep 14, 2024
Wow. On my list for months based on various reviews. We sat at the bar and Victoria was a gem! He advise us, made delicious cocktails and was so impressive! We had a great meal. The Sandos are a must try. Rice was top notch and yet cocktails were so good!!!
