Everytime we go to Sax's Joint I fall in love all over again. How have I not written a review?

We visited on what is probably among the 4 busiest days of the year for Petaluma brunch; sunday antique faire day, at 12:30. We discovered parking in the back and as we walked through the enormous outdoor seating I thought to myself, "well, it will be at least an hour before we see any food, but WORTH IT". I am wrong again.

We got to the front door and an adorable gal told us she would be right back for us and offered the counter, YES PLEASE. The counter is the best place to sit in a busy diner, you see everything. The ballet that unfolded before us was unlike anything I have seen in 45 years in the hospitality industry. This is why we do it, being completely slammed with customers and orders and pulling it off is immensely satisfying to do (and to watch)! Our counter server was also the waiter for the 4 or so tables in the foyer behind us, as well as acting as the expediter. She never missed a step. So the service as always: AMAZING.

The food has always been great, the best diner food bar none. We ordered 'two eggs my way' $15 and the 'Mexican benedict' $17 both delicious. We were eating 12 minutes later. The hashbrowns are crispy top to bottom. The biscuit is the size of a softball. We gave in and finally ordered the famous giant cinnamon bun with a mountain of cream cheese icing, which we had successfully resisted on previous visits. I want to marry that bun. Food was: AMAZING.

As usual, we needed boxes to take half of our food home, no waiting for the boxes either. We got the bill, and looking at the puny bottom line I thought she must have forgotten to charge for my bun - we had ordered it as an afterthought, but no, there it was, $8 for my future husband.

On our way out every server that we past greeted us and thanked us for coming. Female owned and operated, mostly female staff, gorgeous ladies and beautifully decorated interiors, compostable togo boxes, incredible prices, what more can you want? Maybe the chicken and waffles next time...

Sax's Joint offers a charming 50's style atmosphere that takes you back in time. We found this place based on all the amazing reviews on both Google and Yelp.
From the beginning, the service was fast and friendly. Luckily, we came early enough so we didn't have to wait. Due to the small size of the restaurant, everyone who arrives when the restaurant is full has to wait outside, which doesn't sound that great, especially on a chilly morning or a rainy day.
Our server, Baily, was nice and attentive.
We had two cups of coffee, and I had waffles with whipped cream, while my husband opted for the chicken fried steak with eggs and hashbrowns. The chicken fried steak was tough and chewy, but the gravy had a nice flavor. The hashbrowns and eggs were good, though not outstanding. Overall, everything was good, but nothing was great.

Family of 5, seated in a booth, where even my twins were struggling to stretch, while other patrons seated at larger tables or there was vacant seating, we were told those were unavailable.
Nothing about my Chicken Fried Steak was right, nest too much Breading, too salty and the Gravy and Potatoes were cold.
My wife's burger wasn't worth eating the First or second time she had it redone. Basically it a rushed to non capacity of Marvin's

Had a to-go order and everything was perfectly prepped just the way I ordered it. They have more selections of cinnamon rolls with different flavors of icing. Also, I attached a small menu for the road.

I can see why so many Yelpers have reviewed this place with overwhelming positive reviews. This place is simply awesome from the service to the food to the ambiance! This place hits all the boxes.
This is a 50's type diner with excellent service where servers dress in that era of clothing. The food has super flavor and their pancakes and French toast was fantastic! Take it from a helper who loves breakfast! One of the best French toasts you will have. If you are in the area, this is a MUST EAT PLACE!! You won't be disappointed! Make it a priority to stop here! You will certainly enjoy it!

There's no surprise how busy Sax can get! Their Benedict's and French toast is what I love most about their breakfast! It's quality you can't get elsewhere. Sometimes they can get very busy where the cook can be a little off but be sure to let them know so they can fix it for you! Love the ambience and vibe of this diner! Must try for sure.

We were driving through town and my husband was starving so I looked up what was near us. Cute little retro cafe that had all the feels.
I ordered the crab cake Benedict with the eggs poached hard. And hubby had the French toast. His French toast was super yummy and he was super pleased, until he overheard the waitress telling the table next to us the specials. Whatever he heard he said, that's what he would have ordered but we were never told there were any specials. He still liked what he had but was disappointed. My food came out cold! And the eggs poached super runny. I was given a new one and enjoyed it all. The food satisfied us and as I always do, I asked my husband if he would come back and he said yes!

I love a classic diner and this one is as good as it gets! We were in town for the lacrosse tournament and I found this spot based on Yelp reviews. We had a group of 5 and were nervous to come as walk-ins on a weekend since they don't take reservations. 2 friends got there at 9:45am and put our names down. The rest of us showed up at 10am and then we were seated right away!

The inside feels like a typical diner with staff running around, everyone in matching black + pink diner t-shirts, photos and oddities lining the walls, a visible opening into the kitchen where you can see the cooks working hard...it all has a laid back and comfortable vibe that makes you feel welcome! The staff were all friendly and attentive to our needs. The menu is huge, it was hard to make a decision. 2 of my friends started with mimosas which came out in mason jars with a bright pink sugar rim! I got one of the breakfast combos that came with eggs, bacon, country potatoes topped with sour cream & green onions, and a homemade biscuit! So much food for $15! Everybody in my group loved their food, it was all delicious and came with great serving sizes. I got a cinnamon roll togo, it was massive and oh so good!

I wish this diner was closer to where I live, I would definitely be a regular here! They have some unique breakfast items that I would love to try in the future. Next time I'm back in Petaluma I will plan to return for brunch!

Stoped for breakfast with sweetheart, little grand baby and her mom. Sign said stroller not allowed. Warm friendly reception. Place small but clean and organized. Requested for patio sit since stroller not allowed. Staff accommodating and helpful. Got our patio sitting. Ordered crab cake Benedict and eggs and bacon with gluten free toast and home fries. Fresh coffee sounded so good on a nippy morning. Love their oldies music playing. Food was delicious and good size for an order. Fairly decent prize too. Nice enjoyable family breakfast.
