The chef is very accommodating. I'm pretty sure with a call in advance, your low salt request can be taken into consideration. I've never found their food to be overly salty. However, salt enhances flavours and that's why chef's use a certain… more

Funny story--we thought we were heading to 7 Adams but ended up at Seven Hills instead. No complaints, though; it was the perfect mix-up!
The ambiance was just right for a birthday dinner for my dear friend and fellow Yelp Elite, Lisa T.--quiet and intimate without feeling stuffy. No one gave us side-eye when we laughed a little too loudly or veered into less-than-typical dinner table conversations.
The real star was the food. Every dish was outstanding, and by the end of the meal, we were tempted to reorder everything.
One day, we'll make it to 7 Adams, but for now, I'm more than happy with our experience at Seven Hills.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Aug 8, 2024
What I ordered:
-Maccheroncelli [5/5]
_
I've visited Seven Hills a couple of times, as it's my favorite pasta place in San Francisco. I always order the maccheroncelli, which is consistently perfectly cooked, with ricotta that really elevates the dish. Note that this pasta doesn't include any protein, so you might want to order additional dishes if you prefer that. The ambiance is lovely, with a fancy atmosphere that's perfect for date nights. The service is excellent, with staff constantly checking up on you. Overall, great restaurant!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jul 15, 2024
I dined with four friends here on a weekday, and we had a divine experience. My cousin had recommended Seven Hills, as it is her favorite Italian restaurant in all of San Francisco. The waitstaff was very kind and sat us quickly. The atmosphere was so romantic, but also great for a dinner with friends where it's easy to hear each other while not being too quiet.
The menu isn't vast, but has something for everything. We quickly found out that each dish is cooked to perfection. We started off with the focaccia and burrata which both were absolutely amazing. I could have eaten the focaccia for my whole meal, it was so good. A friend and I split the spicy vodka pasta and summer salad, both of which were incredible. One of the most comforting meals I had in a long time. It felt very fresh, authentic, and light.
We also enjoyed cappuccinos for dessert which were very smooth. I'm looking forward to dining again soon!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Aug 19, 2024Updated review
Tried a few more dishes, really liked the burrata and duck liver: tastes rich and flavorful! The squid ink special this time didn't impress, the noodle itself didn't have as much flavor to it. Tagliatelle was pretty good, but surprised that this is one of the only few pastas that has meat in it.
4-star because we had to wait for 15mins into our reservation time because the previous party left late... we feel that the restaurant should handle this better.Helpful 0Thanks 1Love this 1Oh no 0Feb 6, 2023Previous reviewNice restaurant with great food!
They are famous for their Maccheroncelli, which is indeed pretty good. Our waiter suggested ordering meatball from antipasti with it, and the two does go pretty well!
However, I like the crab squid ink infused pasta better. It has a very fresh taste and a lot of crab meat on top! It is one of their specials.
The portion seems small, but it was more filling than we expected!

Made a rez for my bf's birthday dinner :) Very lowkey, I assumed they missed my note in OpenTable or straight up forgot until they brought out our dessert stuck with a candle. Our server made no comment on it until the very end. Would've been less odd if it was acknowledged when we were seated, but maybe they're going for the element of surprise? LOL
The setting is romantic, intimate-- perfect for date night. Server was polite but seemed miffed to be there :') Anyways, dishes were served quickly after ordering. Extremely efficient kitchen considering the sheer volume of diners there that evening.
RAMINI BUFFALO MOZZARELLA: Snap peas were the star IMO. Sweetness and crunch matched the best with the cheese.
TOASTED GARLIC BREAD: It's ok? Softer and less toasty than expected. More garlic plz
CASONCELLI: Ugh, I die for anything brown butter. My first time trying casoncelli tho :3 Light and oddly refreshing. Pasta quality is superb. Not the most filling but a lovely dish nonetheless.
STRAUSS PANNA COTTA: Excellent panna cotta-- thick and super smooth.
Squid ink definitely won my bf over. The dish was phenomenal. I could only peek over enviously after trying a few bites. They should make it a regular item.Helpful 3Thanks 3Love this 4Oh no 0 - 5502338Aug 16, 2024
We had an amazing experience at Seven Hills! I've been particularly looking for outdoor seating options, especially with the current COVID surge. I was happy to find Seven Hills, and to be able to get a reservation to celebrate my birthday. There is outdoor/parklet seating with heaters and some wind protection. Even with a nighttime reservation, we were warm and kept our jackets off.
Our server was very kind and knowledgeable, answering all questions and providing detailed recommendations. We had the herb focaccia and salmon belly to share, and the salmon flesh was so tender and delicious paired with crispy skin. I had a truffle pasta special for my main, and my partner had the pork chop. Both of which were delicious. For dessert we ordered the focaccia bread pudding and espresso, and I had mentioned wanting an affogato and was brought a birthday ice cream to be able to make it! Very happy to have found this place.Helpful 1Thanks 1Love this 1Oh no 0 - Jul 15, 2024
We had an enjoyable dinner at this restaurant serving seasonal Italian-inspired food. We were visiting our son and he had gotten recommendations from some of his foodie friends.
Our table was outside in one of the former Covid shacks that cannibalized a few street parking spaces where traffic passes by just inches away. It was a typical cool-ish night in the city but the restaurant had enhanced the spaces with outdoor heaters hung directly above the tables which helped ward off the cool air.
Their menu we were told varies with the bounty of the season so our summertime visit was lush with seasonal fruits, cheeses and more. One of these items, and what I thought was the most outstanding dish of the night, was a buffalo cheese and grilled stone-fruit salad-so good with its peaches, cherries and creamy sweet soft cheese and crunchy hazelnuts.
We also sampled the meatball (2 large soft balls with lush tomato sauce and some grilled bread) as well as the delicious garlic focaccia bread that's made in house. We sampled 4 different pastas with seasonal ingredients all made with care.
Our server was fantastic and despite having quite a few tables, seemed to always appear when we needed something or to check in.
You can expect a delightful experience dining here-reservations are a must.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jul 1, 2024
I thoroughly enjoyed the exceptional service from the moment I stepped into Seven Hills. The host greeted us warmly, our waitress was incredibly friendly, and the serving staff consistently replaced dirty plates with clean ones after each course.
The Tomato Braised Polpette was delicious, especially with the surprise of cheese stuffed inside the meatballs. The Toasted Garlic Focaccia Bread was a little disappointing. It's seemingly cheese but tasted bland.
The Tagliolini was my favorite; I couldn't get enough of the rich mushroom sauce! I also recommend trying their Straus Panna Cotta. It was refreshing and not too sweet, making it the perfect way to wrap up the meal.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jun 3, 2024
I stumbled across this farm-to-table Italian spot while wandering around Russian Hill, and I am so glad I did!
As an east coast Italian, sometimes I can be hard to please when it comes to west coast Italian cuisine, but this place is the real deal!
The guy that started this spot trained in Sicily for 3 years and the food is amazing! The garlic focaccia, maccheroncelli, and chocolate bundino were all delightful. The service was wonderful too.
I'm already planning my next excuse to come back!Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - Jun 10, 20242 check-ins
I came here pre-pandemic with 2 tennis friends, but more recently have been here twice with my boyfriend and each time has been a delight. Everyone I've gone with has wanted to go to Seven Hills and had been before and really enjoyed it.
Service and pasta is impeccable, as is the wine. Great place for date night or girls' night out. I think every time I've come, someone has ordered the papardelle. It has a unique beef flavor and I love the pasta. My favorite appetizer is the meatballs. A tennis friend swore by the pork chop and flank steak as well.
They have some cute outdoor seating with heat lamps. some bar seating, and nice tables. I honestly feel like it's a good deal for a San Francisco Italian restaurant.Helpful 2Thanks 1Love this 4Oh no 0
