These guys are A W E S O M E. Found out about them through yelp and was thrilled because I live on Mississippi St (other side). I just got a new Aloe Vera plant and needed some soil. They were excited that I was a neighbor and gave me a giant bag of soil for free. Glad to see that businesses like this still exist! Will def be back.

I don't know if this was always the case as other comments mention buying things for their home garden projects, but the moment I walked in they told me they only sell to wholesale buyers, so it was a waste of time for me

These guys are amazing and worth 10 stars!
Most of their items are commercial size but they gave me a loaf of samples to help me out with my needs. I totally recommend them.

The extent of my gardening experience so far is a dormant (read: likely dead) amaryllis, a definitely dead orchid (turns out they do need water after all), and some sweet potatoes in my pantry that sprouted green stems and leaves while I was off on vacation.

So what possessed me to buy 20 ranunculus bulbs from Costco? I don't know, probably the same demon that possesses me whenever I buy Nutella in giant bulk jars, but we're not here to talk about that.

Anyway, when I decided that it was time to plant the poor things, a quick Yelp search pointed me towards SF Garden Supply because they were close by and had parking.

Since I know zilch about gardening but a lot about accidentally growing potatoes on your kitchen counter, I can't tell you much about how robust their inventory is, but I can tell you about their stellar customer service. I was cheerfully greeted upon entering, and after I wandered around the small space for about a minute, I was stopped with a polite, "Can I help you find something?"

"Yes, I need... dirt and pots for some flower bulbs." One minute later I had a couple of (utilitarian but perfectly functional) plastic pots in hand and my savior had a giant bag of soil slung over his shoulder. Buff and efficient, which is the best kind of customer service, really.

The icing on the cake is that he didn't charge me for the supplies. Now that's the sort of small business love I'm not gonna find at big chain stores. I would've given the place five stars anyway for their service and utility but that kindness really made my day.

I live very close, and swung by yesterday looking for supplies to start a raised bed vegetable garden. Sadly, this isn't the one-stop-shop sort of place for that. No compost. No red wigglers. No granular bone meal. No wooden raised beds. No vermiculite (they only sell perlite). No attractive patio pots. Their fertilizers are mainly liquid. No flower seeds or veggie seeds. No strawberry planters. Almost nothing from familiar name like E.B. Stone or Miracle-Gro.

It's really a hydroponics store, which is great for hydro gardeners! (I'm unable to be one, unfortunately -- I'm a renter of a tiny apartment and I only have a balcony with no power source for bubblers). I wish that the name of the place made that a little more clear -- "SF Garden Supply" sounds a lot more general than they are. I was able to buy aphid tape and a few minor things for starting the veggie seeds I already have.

However, what they lack for veggie gardening, they make up for in incredibly nice customer service. I mean astonishingly nice! And they do have tons of bulk soil and bulk perlite. I will definitely return to them for more potting soil if I need it. They were kind enough to supply me with a generous amount of samples appropriate to my needs.

It's really unfortunate that there's a serious lack of veggie-garden-oriented garden suppliers in this part of town. Lowe's is awful, Flora Grubb is expensive, and Flowercraft is cool but seemed to lack inventory when I was last there. It's also unfortunate that the Yelp reviews of this place are a bit misleading -- this place isn't for "all your gardening needs" if you're unable to do hydro. However, if you're a hydro gardener, this is ABSOLUTELY the place to go -- you'll be deeply impressed with these guys and this space.

Note that there's almost no signage -- just go to the end of the block once you turn onto Mississippi. Street parking is at a bit of a premium since this is a residential area.

Great supply store for reasonable price and they have options for your big projects and small projects like mine. Very knowledgeable people and they help load your car - very service oriented.

I came in for some potting soil to fill my large indoor planter. Got two big bags for $26 and they threw in free fertilizer samples for me and a couple free pruning scissors.

Will def be back for my next project :)

What a great resource here in the City! The staff are very friendly and obviously enjoy their jobs. From the moment my husband and I walked in there was someone there to help us deal with the kind of products we wanted and how to get them into our truck.

It was semi-busy when we visited, but we still received really great service. There's SO many different types of fertilizers, soils, containers, growing systems, etc.

The soil we bought here is making our veggies, herbs, and flowers very happy. :) perfect for container gardeners. Thank you SF Garden Supply- I will return soon!
