Well situated nearby the I-280 expressway, this Shell station is clean, has several pumps though it could be more competitive on price.

The per gallon pricing was the same here as it was in San Francisco which puzzled me: It's usually at least $0.20 less per gallon in San Mateo county.

The pumps also didn't recognize my Shell loyalty number which should've earned me $0.08 less a gallon.

I was in too much of a hurry to ask about it especially since I was just topping off my tank.

Other than customers, I've never seen actual employees- do they have any?

Fine if you're about to hop on I-280 but otherwise, see if there's another gas station close by.

This review is for the automotive service department. I drove here last Friday morning on my way to work because the dreaded low tire pressure light came on. There were quite a few cars already here for service & I was afraid that the wait was going to be too long, or they were gonna turn me away.
They took me in right away, pulled a nail out of my tire, patched my tire and charged me a very fair price...Wait, what!!! Man, thanks guys you saved my day.

No propane available.

Gas machines operate in slow motion... It will take you a long time to fill up your car.

No attendance present... The kiosk is locked and it says closed. So you can't really do anything at this pathetic little gas station.

I needed an urgent smog check and left a message for 4 businesses and Jose called me back even before he opened. He was able to take me at 8:05am.. got the job done in 15min and was so friendly. $58 was totally worth it! Highly recommended!

Alfredo was literally cleaning the gas pumps that everyone touches, and I have NEVER seen that. You have an employee who truly cares and I hope whoever is his boss sees this and understands what they have.

I never thought I'd say this but it's surprisingly cheap for the area. I think maybe because it's not quite next to the freeway and not quite in downtown either. In fact it's funny that there are two Chevron's, literally one block away from each other off the freeway exit not too far away that are way more expensive due to the locale. It's just funny that they're a few cents apart. So if you're borrowing the James Bond car and Q asks you to fill the tank in the area, this is the place to go.

The gas station and service station are two different entities, but I'd like to give 5 stars to both for the phenomenal customer service I received last Friday. I left my house in the morning and the low tire pressure indicator light was on. I went to a different gas station, one where I had been before, but the line for service was too long. I came here and Nico, the gas station manager, helped fill up my tire, identified that there was a nail causing the leakage, and suggested another place where I could go since the service technician wasn't in yet. I tried two tire places in downtown San Mateo and both had wait times of "a couple hours." I came back here and Jay, the technician, fixed it immediately and for 2/3 the cost of what the tire places had quoted. Friendly and efficient!

I showed up to this gas station on 2/18/2016 @ 2:25 am to fill up my tank. so I walked up to the cashier and she said sorry I can't take your $$$ so you can't fill up now because I'm on my break you have to come back in 15min... I said I can't wait it's only gonna take you less then 30seconds please... She still refused and said sorry but I'm still on my break....
WTF is all that about?? Its passed 2am and her dumb ass is on break all night long... So pathetic... Same incident happened 2 weeks ago by me going there to exchange my propane tank and the cashier didn't know how to ring it up so he insisted that he can't sell it... I offered to leave him $25 cash and switch the tanks, he also refused... I said call your manager please and ask... He tried , manager didn't answer... So I popped my head behind the register after 30min, and I was able to see the propane button so I showed him how to do it.... Shell needs to hire professional employees... I won't be giving my $ or business to this place... I already informed family and friend about it... Shell on Peninsula is a Fucking joke...

If you need gas, are paying cash and it's the middle of a shift change be prepared to have to wait for the cashier to count their drawer, cigarettes and other weird things. There is something wrong with your system if you have to turn away or make customers wait 20 minutes because a shift change is happening. Let me know when you figure this one out and maybe I'll stop by again one day for gas.

Cheaper than the chevron up the street! The credit card authorization at the pumps used to laaaag. Sucks when youre in a hurry. Recent visits theyve been quicker :)
