Always been a fan of Turkish delights but I never had Turkish brunch till today and was mind blown by how good it is!! Simit is another hidden gem of Vancouver that has delicious baked goods, sandwiches, breakfast and baklava!!
The staff were so friendly and warm, really added to the experience! Would recommend their sucuk and cheese, tahini swirl (who knew tahini could be used in dessert?!) and potato bun.
A must have 5/5Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Dec 1, 2023
This place looks like a little bit of a hole in the wall and it's hidden in the corridor of Broadway between Cambie and Main that's getting torn up by construction, but it's such a great find and absolutely worth checking out. They serve Turkish brunch and snacks, specializing in Turkish bagels, "simit", hence the name.
I was very curious about these special Turkish bagels and tried one in the "Aspendos" smoked salmon bagel sandwich. I loved the bagel! It reminded me of Montréal-style bagels, a little sweet, but with a unique texture because it's so thin and twisted. The bagel and the rest of the ingredients were very fresh. I watched the person working (owner?) put together the sandwich and it was pretty impressive how careful he was arranging the slices of salmon and vegetables around the ring if
the bagel. Because the hole in the middle is so large, it's a different experience to eat a sandwich made with this kind of bagel, interesting! I also tried their almond pudding (I think it's called keshkul but I'm not sure, maybe that's something else) and a Turkish tea. The almond pudding had a nice strong almond flavour and a unique texture - it was a little grainier than standard pudding but not in a bad way. The tea was also quite strong but not bitter.
The person who took and made my order was really friendly, and as mentioned above, put a lot of care into my sandwich. Because the items are made to order very precisely, it's not the fastest.
Check them out for something different! I really want to go back and try one of their Turkish breakfast plates!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Helen P.Austin, TX12912May 20, 2023
A delightful and delicious find this afternoon. We had the spinach and feta bourek and a bagel sandwich, then finished up with baklava. And then had to try the rice pudding and an iced coffee. All were wonderful. Very cozy atmosphere and friendly attentive service.

3.5 I've searched high and low for bourek in the city and finally found Simit Bakery. I grabbed a spinach and feta bourek ($6.95) to go early afternoon. It was tasty but maybe not the freshest. The dough was a little chewy though the flavours were all there. I'll swing by to grab other goodies next time and hopefully drop by earlier.
Staff were friendly and happy to see us.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Mar 11, 2021
I came here for a snack stop as I had heard about this place a while back. I got a Turkish coffee and a plain pogaca for dine in, and they were both delicious! The Turkish coffee was a bit strong for my liking but had wanted to give it a try, but my partner who's usually more into coffee said it was just how it's suppose to be. The savory bread (pogaca) was delicious and very fresh and paired well with the coffee. I also got 2x twisted bagels and an olive pagoca to go. Staff were very welcoming and friendly and will definitely be back!
Edit: I would recommend having the bagels on the day you buy them as by one or two days after, they were quite hard.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Feb 13, 2020
Oh my gosh, this place is soooo good! So I stumbled upon this Turkish bakery when I walked out of Leslie's Shoe Repair yesterday (btw which is a great place to get your shoes fixed).
Anyway, I always seem to be intimated by new food items but at the same time, I'm so excited by them. I walked in and saw all these pastries and I was exhilarated! There were so many choices.
I ordered the Smyrna bagel sandwich and a Turkish coffee to dine in. I also bought home the San Sebastian cheesecake, blueberry and Nutella soft bagels.
My lunch was delicious! The bagel sandwich was made on a Turkish bagel and it didn't taste as doughy as the conventional ones we're used to. My Turkish coffee was strong. I don't mind it since I love my black coffee and they even added a candy to complement the drink.
In the evening at home, I tried the desserts I bought. I have been to San Sebastian a few years ago and I have never heard of San Sebastian cheesecake. OMG! It was so creamy and smooth!!! SO SO GOOD! And the two soft bagels!! Perfect texture with just the right amount of fillings. I can't wait to go back to this bakery and try their savoury items!
PS If you haven't been to San Sebastian, put it on your bucket list. Food heaven there :))Helpful 9Thanks 0Love this 6Oh no 0 - May 15, 2020
I'm always on the lookout for good Turkish food. We decided to check out Smith's Balgery for a light lunch. They're across the street from MEC.
We dropped in on a Sunday afternoon (around 1:00pm) and it was busy. There's about 6 tables inside along with two outside for people watching.
The menu is split into bagels, pogaca, bourek, sweets, bagel sandwiches and drinks.
- Turkish coffee ($3.75) - strong and aromatic. It's a small cup and gets very sludgy at the end.
- Feta spinach bourek ($2.49 small) - good flaky texture and nice balance of feta to spinach.
- Stuffed bagel ($4.99) - this was tasty. I have no idea how they get the bagel to be so soft when you bite into it. The cheese and olives stuffed inside were warm and gooey.
- Cappadocia ($8.49) - Montreal smoked meat, cheddar, tomato and lettuce. The simit is solid but I wish they warmed/toasted it slightly. Smoked meat was good but you don't get much portion wise.
- San Sebastien cheesecake ($4.99) - we bought a slice for home. Excellent; fluffy, jiggly and not too sweet. I'm generally not a big cheesecake fan but I'd get this again.
You might not leave fully sated but SB has tasty simits and pastries.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Sabrina M.Winter Springs, FL126132Jul 27, 2022
This was well-worth the 20 minute bike ride through the hot summer heat. Our first time at a Turkish bakery, the gentlemen at the counter were very kind and helpful in explaining all they had.
Cappadocia Simit Sandwich: the bagel itself was delightful with a perfect bite and chew accompanied by the nuttiness of the sesame seeds. Together with the Montreal smoked meat, cheese, lettuce and tomato, it was impeccable.
Spinach and Feta Bourek: my partner and I took one bite, looked at each other, and gave the knowing look and nod of "Oh yeah, this is the stuff." The layers really make this pastry stand out.
Food was fantastic, the folks that helped us were lovely, definitely will come back next time we're in Vancouver!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 166144666May 15, 2020
Stopped by on my way home for an impromptu late lunch. This is a super cute mom and pop shop with fresh bakery offerings (and interestingly not a lot of bagels that I could spot!)
I tried 2 sandwiches, the smoked meat and prosciutto. The thin bagel reminded me of Montreal-style bagels with its crispy-ness and slightly sweet flavours. With tax and tip, the sandwich was a big pricey for a taste I could re-create at home. Probably won't be back any time soon as the prices are a little high.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
