About three years ago, I had a stereo deck, front speakers/tweeters, an amp/subwoofer installed at the Burnaby location of Sounds Good Auto. I bought the Kenwood deck and installation kit from the shop but had previously purchased the other items. The installation came to about $1100, which I thought was a high price. The salesperson wasn't very friendly and had a bit of a "cool guy" attitude. In the end, I was satisfied with the installation work, but the deck was glitchy for all three years of owning it. I take it back because I didn't want to deal with the "cool guy" again. Fast forward to the present day. I bought a new car and wanted to install a subwoofer and amp that I had purchased. The amp came complete with an eight gauge wiring kit. I decided to go to the Coquitlam location of Sounds Good Auto because I thought they might be a little more friendly than Burnaby. I brought in my car with the sub, amp/wiring kit for a salesperson named Mike to take a look at and give me an estimate.Â
He looked over the gear and belittled the amp and installation kit; he said the subwoofer was OK and the enclosure would do. Mike said that my eight gauge wire was cheap and not safe. I said I was OK with the installation kit that I had. The amp/installation kit's rating on Amazon.ca was 4.3 stars from 848 reviewers. There wasn't one review mentioning that the wires weren't safe or had reported any electrical problem. My sub was only 200 watts, so that wasn't a concern.
Mike took me back inside to breakdown the installation costs. Even though I wanted to use my eight gauge wire, he added an eight gauge wire for $60 to the estimate. Next was misc. Shop materials that were totalling $60. I didn't need any other materials. They were all in the installation kit.
Here's the kicker. Mike said that it would take six hours to install my sub/amp at $120 per hour for the labour. He read out the total with taxes, and it came to $940.80 and asked if I wanted to book an installation time. I thought that he was joking, but he wasn't. His face was serious. My sub/amp is only worth around $300; I asked for a printed copy of the estimate. I don't know if Mike was having a bad day, didn't like me, didn't want my money, or thought my intelligence is under average, but I left the shop baffled and felt insulted. I contacted two other professional installation shops with one quote of $300 and $350 from the other. Both shops quoted three hours for the labour, not six, which is ridiculous. I went to the first shop for the installation they used my installation kit without any concerns or objections. It's been one month now, and my car hasn't burst into flames or has had ANY fuses blown or other electrical problems. The sub sounds fantastic.Â
These rocket surgeons will try to sell you a trip to Mars, with a couple of days along the sandy shores of the moon.
Make sure you ask for Mike in Coquitlam, and Reuben in Burnaby. These guys really know their stuff well, and will provide you with the utmost honest service.
In closing, how did I get a stereo deck (which has a lot of wiring to be done), front speakers and tweeters, the same sub/enclosure plus a similar amp installed for $1100 and then my main man Mike, was trying to sell me a $940 install for same sub/encloser and a similar amp for almost the same rate?
It doesn't make any sense. Really!
Many people take advantage of others that aren't familiar with some specific area of knowledge or subject.
These salesmen enjoyÂ
talking over peoples' heads with their garble, to confuse customers to make them think they have to buy something or they'll have a big problem in the end. There needs to be some kind of standard in this type of business.Â
Please don't waste your money with Sounds Goods?, and do your research beforehand so that you don't become another victim.Â
Or... you can just throw your money away.Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Joseph K.Delta, Canada09Nov 21, 2019Updated review

Hello Joseph,
I respect your perspective, but am disappointed with it at the same time.
You can smoke anywhere you want, except for within 6 meters of a door open. As we have former smokers, we reserve the right to ask anyone near the doorway to not smoke near us. You don't have to respect our wishes, but we will ask.
If we have done something in our installation that does not meet your satisfaction, we will gladly make adjustments to maintain your satisfaction.
We may charge more than your mechanic does because we are a specialist in our field. We train more than you mechanic will as well. Training for this field is really expensive. It's all part of our hourly rate.
As for the price of installation, your product needed infrastructure wiring. Typically, we bill 1 hour for a subwoofer enclosure installation and 3 hours for an amplifier installation. Add power, rca and speaker wiring along with your taxes brings you to your number. As a specialty store, we ensure that everything is properly mounted and tuned to maximize its potential.
I can see that you are upset with us, but is it possible to come in to talk about it with us? The last thing that we want is to have unhappy customers.Aug 12, 2019Previous reviewAdequate service. Took longer than expected however and the one younger installer confronted me twice once about my smoking outside too close to the bay which i didn't feel it was the case and another for getting my sunglasses out of car. I have spent time in a garage with my mechanic learning how my car works. Later i noticed they ran the wiring blocking access to my cabin filter not cool! Price to install my amplifier and sub over $700!
Perhaps shopping around might be in order next time they charge much more per hour than my auto mechanic does. Live and learn. - Mark L.Vancouver, Canada1833May 6, 2020
There's "professional", and then there's these guys, in a league above. They are exceedingly skilled, considerate and compassionate towards their customers. They identified and rectified problems I had with older after market installations I had done elsewhere. To say this company went above and beyond would be an understatement. I very highly recommend them.

Great service and very quick! I have to drive a little farther to get here but it is well worth it because I am in and out in no time at all. I have had other experiences from car audio shops that were closer to home and they were not as professional and certainly not as punctual.
Great c/s!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jason S.Newton, Surrey, Canada022Nov 7, 2019
Where to start..
I trusted these guys through a few people and that was a bad move..
Supposedly built a 10k system in my show car that was worth 2k tops
They scratched a painted piece in my interior (car freshly painted 1 wk prior)
The screwed up my wiring so car wouldnt start up half the time meaning they didn't know how to wire up an srt8 (just base models only)
My cars was full of mdf saw dust and wire clippings n soldering
My sub blew up pretty bad almost causing a fire and I had to pay out of pocket 400$ for replacement sub when I'm partially sponsored
And their employee tried to steal from my after I confronted them he denied everything..
Just recently talked to owner after some time.. to get them to rectify by either replacement system at their cost or money back and I was called an extortionist..
Maybe tell your customers the truth instead of wanting their money.. transparency!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Lee L.Coquitlam, Canada122553Aug 10, 2015
Excellent service and great fix it attitude
Went into the store liking for just a wiring harness
The tech was unable to find one until he did some more digging
And located a display unit that he snagged it from :))
Asked about a carkit - they had one
Asked about a deck sleeve - they had one
All around yeah !!!
They came through for the one stop shop :)))Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Rich V.New Westminster, Canada4413Jul 15, 2016
I went to Sounds Good to see if I can get some assistance with my 'stock Ford' DVD player and I ended up being helped by a gentlemen named Keith. He fixed my DVD issue in like a minute and said that he was only too glad to help. I ended up feeling so good about pulling into Sounds good that I purchased a nice little stereo system because it had hands free phone and it was a definite upgrade from what I had. I am super happy with my purchase and thank the team at Sounds Good profusely for the experience. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!

They did a great job with suggesting the right radio upgrade for my needs. I wanted to upgrade my stock radio in my GMC Sierra. I wanted something capable of Bluetooth playing music from my iPhone. I also wanted HD radio capabilities. They hooked me up with a nice unit and setup an appointment for me to return for installation. When I returned, the unit selected was out of stock, so they upgraded me to a more expensive and fancier unit at no extra charge. This one has all I wanted plus Apple car play and integrates my after-market backup camera as well as my dash am. Less than two hours later I was in my truck being shown how to use the unit and then was on the way. Great service, reasonable prices and friendly staff. Highly recommended.
