Q:
From my flight 748 yesterday from ATL to OAK makes me ask -How close is too close to see another plane flying by while in mid flight (while in the air)? I witnessed another SWA jet crossing directly under our plane while high above Utah.
A:
You would have to be right behind the plane on the runway.

I want to share an incident that occurred on Aug 27, 2024, my early morning flight from SFO to Las Vegas. A passenger seated at the other end of my row appeared to wake up feeling unwell about 45 minutes after takeoff. He mentioned to those around him that he was experiencing discomfort and felt like he might throw up. A fellow passenger immediately alerted the crew, and by that time, the man had nearly passed out in his seat.
The flight attendants responded quickly and professionally. They helped him lie down, placed icy wet towels on his forehead and neck, and one of them brought him orange juice, which he drank. Another crew member removed his jacket to make him more comfortable. Remarkably, within seconds, the passenger started to recover. One flight attendant stayed by his side, engaging him in conversation to ensure he was feeling better.
It was incredible to see how swiftly and calmly the crew handled the situation. If the fellow passenger hadn't called for help or the flight attendants hadn't acted as quickly as they did, this situation could have had a much worse outcome.
The care and professionalism of the #Southwest crew were truly impressive. Although I was nervous and shocked at first, their composed and efficient actions reassured everyone. They truly saved him that day!
This was my first experience flying with Southwest, and after witnessing how dependable and caring their crew was, I look forward to flying with them again. Kudos to the Southwest team!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Sep 3, 2024Updated review1 check-in
Its OST (One Star Tue) two weeks in a row!!!!!
I detest SWA!!!!! However, they are the only airline that flies fr my area to OAK. I have no choice.
First of all, SWA is not the low price leader. I have paid $500 w/ no extras on a half full flight to fly to OAK before. Thats ridiculous for a one hour flight. Additionally, I can't stand their boarding process. I'm glad they are finally spending some $ on a res system, and are moving to assigned seats w/ options for more legroom in 2025. In addition, SWA has a liberal ass pre-boarding policy, and passengers can save seats. Lastly, there always seems to be that "asshole", who comes on the half empty plane late. That "asshole" has to sit in the middle seat of a front row, and fuk it up for me in the aisle seat and the person in the window seat.
However, for OAK specifically: Fr LGB I land in Terminal 1, but have to walk all the way to Terminal 2 for my golf bag. For departures, I have to drop my bag off at Terminal 2 and walk to Terminal 1 to my gate. Terminal 1 has no TSA Pre or Clear line. What kinda fukn customer service is that?!?!?!?!?! In addition, checking a bag is self service. You have to get in line for a kiosk, put your claim tag on, then wait in another line for a SWA rep to weigh your bag and check your ID.
Unfortunately, I have to fly SWA to get to OAK. I just have to man up and deal with it. Note to SWA: Customers like options that improve the experience!!!!!Helpful 12Thanks 5Love this 7Oh no 3Aug 25, 2021Previous reviewI really don't care for SWA. They tout themselves as being customer service oriented. However, the way they operate improves their profitability, and doesn't provide better service.
The boarding of groups vs assigned seats is bc they do not want to spend money on a reservation system. I hate having to check in 24 hours in advance and wondering what group I get to board with. You can assure yourself a low number A group boarding: But you have to pay a fee. Its just another way for the airline to make more money.
I was going to rate one star after my last experience. I take the last flight fr OAK to SNA, and it is always late, regardless of the time of year. In this case we didn't have pilots. We boarded more than 30 min before the pilot arrived, and there was hardly any air. The inside was like a sauna w/ a packed flight, and wearing masks. After we got in the air, the circulation was slightly better, but it was still hard to breathe. Lastly, after arriving an hour late, we deplaned at the gate furthest from the exit. It was a long hike to leave after being in a sauna, and a one hour flight delay.
I complained to SWA, and they actually listen to their customers vs most airlines. I was given some consideration for what I went through. I thought that was good customer relations on their part. In the end, I am not saying SWA is the best airline. Nonetheless, if you have an issue, they will listen vs other airlines. - Mark L.Redwood City, CA2369Jun 29, 2024
I have been flying SWA for thirty years. My wife and I just completed a 6-segment trip. Flights on time, boarding fine, etc.
For the first time, we encountered some really angry/bitter flight attendants on these flights. Rude and in one case absolutely inappropriate. Pretending that there are "safety issues" and screaming at passengers as they quietly sit in their seats or get bags from overhead.
I have never encountered this before, not in 30 years. It's as though they're unhappy in their jobs and lashing out at customers as a perq of the role.
Sad. Southwest ALWAYS had the best flight attendants in the industry. Always.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 3886085225Apr 28, 2024
Imagine if you will, it's your first trip to Hawaii, and you've got to connect in Oakland on your way. This was my wife and I's scenario last week. We get off our plane in Oakland and we begin to review the gate location of our connecting flight and discover that a flight to Honolulu is scheduled to depart in less than an hour. Our current itinerary was for us to be at the Oakland Airport for 4.5 hours....
So, I approach the Southwest representatives at the gate (Sherrain and Richard) and ask if there is a way that my wife and I might be able to get onto the flight leaving sooner. Honest to God, the answer was a surprise to us. We were able to get onto the flight. These two Southwest employees went above and beyond to make sure that everything went well.
This required them to do a number of things. First, verify that seats were available, cancel our seats on the later flight, book us onto the earlier flight, and then follow a process to attempt to get our luggage on the earlier flight. They emailed the luggage department, and they also phoned the people who are in charge of the luggage department (and I'd include their name here as well if I only knew it) and low and behold, our luggage arrived on the same flight that we did. I had been making plans to return to the airport to get our luggage, as I really did not expect that it would be doable to have a Southwest luggage person track down our three pieces of luggage from a cart (I'm assuming) that was set aside for the flight 4.5 hours away and get it onto the plane leaving in less than an hour....
So, our first trip to Hawaii was getting off to a great start due to the effort and energy of several of the personnel at the Oakland Airport. Thanks so much... It's kind, courteous, and helpful people that really demonstrate the quality customer service that companies can really be proud of, and we got to spend an extra 4.5 hours in Hawaii on our very first visit there.
This really helped my wife and I understand that good customer service is alive and well.Helpful 6Thanks 2Love this 4Oh no 0 - Loyda V.San Francisco Bay Area, CA04Sep 16, 2024

Terrible customer service. Staff at the gate were so rude. 20 minutes prior to boarding, gate agents encouraged passengers to grab food or any other items at the airport. I got a hot takeout meal to eat on the plane, since Southwest does not serve meals. It was also a 5 hour flight during dinner time. Gate agent tells me I must stash my hot food into my carry on luggage to consolidate my luggage.
Why would you encourage passengers to buy food and items at the airport and then ice them out when they don't stash it in their bag? I showed the gate agent my hot food, but I was still forced to put it away in my luggage. That makes zero sense. Hot food in my luggage will damage my personal belongings. I've never experienced an airline that forces passengers to stow their meals prior to boarding.Helpful 3Thanks 2Love this 1Oh no 3 - 4447819372Jul 2, 2023

7/2/23 From Oakland to Burbank, Ca, good flight! Captain is on point, flight attendants are cool as cucumbers & funny, attentive.
Just a little bit of turbulence but The Captain handled it like a pro. Flying coach is fair. If you check in early (on time, like as soon as it's exactly on the dot!!) enough, first come first served, you have the pick of your seat. I prefer assigned seating but I like flying with friends (and for some reason, Southwest is the option selected) more.
It would be beneficial for people on the go to have options to charge their devices, not on this airplane. Thankfully it's just an hour & half flight.
I should've taken advantage of this beverage menu...esp. the complimentary drinks...maybe next timeHelpful 17Thanks 2Love this 11Oh no 0 - Mar 28, 2024
Security was a disaster but southwest flight attendants were friendly per usual. We have an empty middle seat! Seats do feel upgraded since my last Southwest flight. I also had a super easy seatbelt extender request. Fingers crossed the flight is smooth. Sweet home Chicago here we come!
