      1 check-in

This was my first visit, and I was very impressed!

The place is small looking but has a large indoor series of areas for dining. Although facing a busy street, we sat on the patio, which was very relaxed and relatively quiet.

The menu was extensive, and the food options were too many, so I basically decided on two new dishes for me: the potato pancakes (Reibekuchen) and Gratinierte Kasespatzle - mac 'n cheese - with cheddar-parmesan cheese and caramelized onions, with a side salad for the large size. Salad was a combination German salad with shredded cabbage, dill cucumber, pickled red beets and marinated carrots.

One of my companions had the Lachs Croquettes, salmon coquettes on a bed of mixed greens, and the other had the Aufschnittplätte, which is a combination of assorted German cold cuts, including mortadella with pistachios, soppressata, coppa, salami, summer sausage with herbed goat cheese, onions, cornichons and sliced baguette.

Of course, we also enjoyed three German draft beers: the HB lager, the Paulanger, and the Spaten lager. All were coldly delicious!

The potato pancakes came first, and I expected them to be shredded flat, but they were more like hash brown sheds but smaller. Tasty fried and served with apple sauce on the side for dipping or spreading.

The rest of the food came shortly after. The servings were impressive, for both the plating and volume.

The salad was delicious, and I mixed the veggies for each bite. The mac 'n cheese was different, very creamy yet subtle in its cheese. One person at home had a taste of the half I took home and called it "bland." I liked it, but if y9ou are used to mac 'n cheese with sharp cheddar, for example, it may be too "subtle" for you. But again, I liked it very much as a change.

I did not taste the other plates, except for the herbed goat cheese. Wow. VERY creamy and with a strong herbal taste, which I could only think of as a rosemary type - maybe juniper? Odd that I could not place the herb(s) but very good.

And if you have a dog, please bring it! Not only are they welcome, but they also have a menu dinner dish for dogs! It is dog food but sounds fancier in German.

The service was attentive and friendly, and added to a great overall experience.

If you have not tried German food, this is a good place to break yourself in slowly. You'll tell me "Vielen dank für den vorshlag!"

I'd been wanting to try this place for a long time and so glad I did. Although not everything we ordered was amazing, over all it was pretty good.

I'll start with the negatives. Firstly, We ordered the large soft pretzel and beer cheese for the table and all of us agreed that it left little to be desired. The pretzel itself was okay but nothing special. I feel like I've had better at sporting events. We all also agreed that the beer cheese was not good at all. The texture was grainy and the flavor was not enjoyable. No one took a second bite of it after trying it the first time.

The other disappointment was that we ordered a side of apple compote which we never received.

On the bright side, we ordered the smoked salmon appetizer which was very tasty and enjoyed by all. It was served with red onions, capers and a mustard dill sauce were all very delicious.

For my entree I ordered the braised pork shank with mashed potatoes and pickled salad and was very pleased. It was a decent size portion and the flavors of everything on the dish came together nicely.

My husband ordered the salmon which was severed with mashed potatoes and spinach. I tried his meal and we both agreed that it was well cooked, well seasoned and that the salmon tasted fresh.

Although I didn't try their meals the couple we dined with ordered a beef roulade dish and a chicken spatzle and both said they enjoyed their meals.

Overall this place was good and we will go again.

I was brought here by a friend, she had been here in the past and remembered it was good. This is a cute little place, lots of outdoor seating. The service was nice and friendly. I didn't much care for the food. I found it bland and tasteless, and over priced. My friend got the pork cutlet, mushroom sauce, and Spatzle. She also said her food was bland and didn't really have a flavor to it. I got the brat sandwich with fries, fries were good. I wasn't a fan of the brat. I've never had German food, so I don't know what it's supposed to taste like, maybe we ordered the wrong things. I did try my friends dish which seems to be the a popular dish because there are so many pictures and reviews. The cutlet was crunchy, but bland. I wouldn't come back here, it just wasn't that great for the prices.

First visit and I loved this restaurant!!

Service was really friendly. They have a great outdoor patio that is pet friendly. The food portions are generous and delicious. I can't wait to return every time I visit Alameda. They had a great selection of German beers. I really loved the grapefruit beer. They also have a kids menu and it is kid friendly. I loved the crispy potato pancakes, my favorite item but everything we tried tasted good. I really appreciated the prompt and friendly server who patiently explained menu items to help us decide what items to try. The drink menu just was quite extensive with alcohol and sans alcohol options.

Warning about the side private parking lot, it is very tight and I would recommend parking on the street .

It's a local bar and restaurant with German decors and cuisine. Indoor and outdoor seating.
Food looks good and delicious. Curry sauce has a kick (good way) but schnitzel was a bit dry.
Full bar with good variety of beers and cocktails. Big screen good for sports watching.
Good for kids, groups, meetups and couples.
Staff are responsive and friendly. Plenty of space and tables. Beautiful and comfortable bar stools. Food being served at the bar too.
Parking might be a bit challenging due to lack of street parking. However there is a plaza across the street where you can park and walk to the restaurant

Food was outstanding and the beers were delicious. Our server had the entire back section to herself and it was packed. She was attentive and you could see clearly how hard she was working while likely short staffed.
I got the meat platter with a size of spatzle and I would say it fed 2 1/2 of us in total for myself and two men. I want to return again to try their schnitzel!

      Happy Birthday to Me!

We have visited this establishment for a couple decades. Alas the dining experience is not worth the hour drive and metered parking any more.

Outside the entrance, from the direction we arrived from, the street looks like a crack house neighborhood with oil stains, weeds, and construction-orange safety markings.

Possibly so the wait staff can minimize shoe mileage, we were seated in a noisy corner jammed with four other peopled tables. The other four fifths of the place was empty so we finally asked and then moved.

We had reservations so I expect the place to be staffed so we can get service. Nope- slow as molasses. They lost out on a lot of beer sales by keeping me wanting.

For some reason the jägerschnitzel was conspicuously Not Breaded. There might have been some wet moist flour on.
Maybe the cook has never had jägerschnitzel at another local location or in Europe? Duno but it was pretty much the texture of a Salisbury steak. Other times we ate there and in other countries it was breaded like all the pictures a Google search of photos.
The schweinbratten was OK. My Son very much liked the smoked salmon appetizer.

No hand soap in the Men's restroom. I alerted the wait staff.

Two entrees, an appetizer, half liter of Spaten, half glass of wine and a coke pretzel (nicely not over salted) for $150 including tax and tip.

If the food was top of the line then it would be worth the trip and expense. I don't have too many more birthday meals left if you know what I mean. Speisekammer is no longer worth the gamble to me.
