Do you have snow chains for rental?

      A:

Thank you so much for your interest in renting! Sports Basement does not carry Snow Chains at this time for retail or rental. We would recommend auto stores on Highway 89 or Highway 50 as you get closer to Tahoe!

      Experts.

I've been a customer here for years. This year, I got into snowboarding and rented from them regularly. While the service was excellent, nothing compares to having your own equipment if you really decide you love a sport. I purchased the board, binding and boots here and wanted to give a special shout out to Danielle. She is a no-nonsense, knows her stuff professional. She nailed the boots within 10 minutes to give me exactly what I needed. A month later when I went in to buy a beginner to intermediate board and bindings I could grow with over the next several years, she knew immediately what would work for me. I went home, checked the reviews on the equipment she recommended, and they backed her 100%.

Just took my new board and bindings out this weekend in 8+ feet of fresh powder in Tahoe and they worked like a dream and exactly as she (and the reviews) said they would. Within a couple of days on the slopes, the new board and bindings dramatically improved my comfort level, ability, control and speed.

These guys aren't in it for the money. They won't try to sell you the newest and most expensive products. They are athletes and professionals who know and love their sports.

      Updated review

I have lived 1 block from Sports Basement on Bryant street for going on 17 years and I've shopped and used services in every department but I have to tell ya, the bike department on floor 1 is hands down the best bike repair and sales team in the city. Jason and Josh have helped me multiple times with my bike problems that are well out of my skill set and they never seem to mind squeezing my bike in during an impromptu bike emergency. 5 stars for them, all day long!

i sunny knows what this is called but Josh fixed it!

Baseball season, if you are looking for baseball pants, and don't know your son's size, go to Sports Basement, two locations in SF, you can try on or search their inventory for availability and prices are comparable to online (amazon).

I've been a happy returning customer since buying a bike from them in October 2018.

Today 2024-01-23 they solved a probably fairly common bike problem: a new set of hydraulic disc brake pads rub against the wheel rotors. I checked in with Aaron at about 6:20pm and described a sticky piston situation to him. He asked Jason to take a look, and I left the store at 6:42pm and rode my bike home very content that my rear rotors aren't rubbing anymore. I had spent an hour on my own trying to clean the brake pistons to no avail. My friend also helped me clean the pistons and tried to get some extra fluids out. No luck. I was about to give up and buy a new SRAM brake caliper. Thank you SB for fixing such a gnarly (at least for me) problem. I decided to buy some SRAM DOT 5.1 fluid as I learn I should service my brake pads somewhat regularly given my riding volume.

SRAM DOT 5.1 fluid for my personal use. Bike is now in a good state!

Sports Basement never misses. In a world where most of our shopping now happens online, it will never compare to actually trying equipement (or shoes) out in-person. The selection is vast and the team who works there are so damn friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. I also feel they are not in the business of price gouging like so many currently.. Special shoutout to Pawan and Jamie for making my shopping trip exceptional.

      Thank you S.B.!

Tony in the bike shop is amazing. He helped fix a shift cable on my cargo bike right before closing. Even though I have a complicated cargo bike, he didn't hesitate and solved the problem on the spot. He helped me and my kids get home safe! He even taught me how to fix it again myself in a pinch. What a great mechanic and just super kind of guy!

      Amazingly helpful bike department.

I was registered to ride in a bike event in Marin early Saturday morning, and despite spending the better part of my Friday afternoon trying to get new tires onto my wheels, I just couldn't for the life of me get the bead over the edge of the rim. Weeks of training would go to waste if my bike wasn't in rideable condition within the next few hours.

In a last-ditch effort, I called Sports Basement Bryant St, and asked if there was any chance they'd be able to get the tire install done for me - amazingly they sounded optimistic about being able to help on short notice.

I showed up about an hour before closing, and despite the late hour and the incredibly stubborn tires, the Bike Department team managed to get both tires installed, to my immense relief.

I think I interacted with about four different employees in the department, and they were all working together to juggle my urgent request with everything else they were trying to get done before closing.

Shout out to the bike department at Bryant Street - I've enjoyed every experience with annual bike servicing I've had at the bike department here for the past 3 years !

In addition-as a daily bike rider, repairing my bike after a crash has been a stress.

Matt and the mechanics caught a important fracture in my bike frame( that was previously missed by another bike service place! ) - he has been tremendously helpful answering all my questions over replacement frames, providing sound advice and patiently answering my questions

Steven and the others have also been helpful, friendly, and pleasant ,everyone seems like they enjoy working there and helping riders out !

I used to go to Pedal Revolution for bike servicing but they unfortunately closed. Despite buying my bike from Valencia Cyclery ( only because I was looking for a specific model that SB did not have) I'll keep returning to Sports Basement for all my bike servicing needs- all the folk seem experienced and happy to help and willing to spend time diagnosing /explaining which I really appreciate!!

Thank you Matt and Steven and the bike department!

Got good advice on how to adjust my bike and fit a lock
