      Updated review

Update to previous review: we got the apartment and absolutely love it! Such a cute place in a really safe area-- and the management is so amazing and great at communicating anything going on around the apartments! 100% recommend!

So far so great! Visited the leasing office-- Carol was very sweet and helpful! Got to take a tour and see one of the 1bed/1bath apartments and loved it! Definitely older appliances, but they're charming little apartments-- very clean and cute and spacious. Haven't rented yet, but so far we've had a great experience.

      Updated review

I lived at Springwood from 2013 to 2017, and then moved in again, living there from March 2018 to September 2022.
I wish I could write a better review but I'm so disappointed by what was previously a great place to rent.

The buildings are quite dated and the updates that have been made are of the cheapest quality. The old carpeting in the buildings was replaced last year...we all thought what had been placed was the liner and the installation people would be returning to lay the actual carpet. No...the carpet is just that thin and it causes sound to reverberate through the halls. The vinyl flooring in some units is cheap quality and poorly installed, so that it's constantly lifting.

They continue to permit cigarette smoking on patios and balconies, and public areas around the site, which means there's smoke coming in through the windows, patio/balcony doors, and vents, regardless of whether you smoke.

The complex spent three years and a lot of money to update the property, with the pool and hot tub, bbq area, and clubhouse were all unavailable during this time. The big reveal after all the work reflected that the only thing changed for residents was a nicer bbq area. The pool and hot tub, and all the chaises, tables, and umbrellas are the same that have been there since my initial residency. The clubhouse, which is only open during the management's working hours (unless reserved for a private event), is gorgeous but the main change is a remodel of the office space. The management and facilities staff are the only people who use the "clubhouse," and in great part due to the hours it's accessible as well as the fact that whenever someone goes in there, it feels as if you're interrupting the office staff having their breaks, hanging out and snacking, etc.

All the parking spots were redesignated this past year as "assigned" spots, in a clear attempt to increase income for the management company. Residents must pay an additional fee monthly to reserve a spot, covered or not, and there are virtually no unassigned spots for additional resident cars or guests. The office staff regularly "patrol" the parking area for parkers who aren't "registered" and when discovering someone, send an email blast to the entire community calling out the car's identifying details and threatening to have the vehicle towed within a certain number of minutes if it's not moved. During weekends, the Springwood staff tend to park in the spots reserved for "new residents."

Management sends email frequently admonishing residents that they've "been told" they cannot have anything on their balconies/patios, hallways, lobbies, etc. as if the residents are young children. I don't like when people break rules meant to ensure people's enjoyment of their rented home either, but there's a way to do this respectfully and a way to make people feel bad.

When there are problems with the laundry room machines, the office staff will not assist. The response is that they haven't been trained on how to use the equipment or its software and residents have to contact the vendor (which never seems to result in a response). A dryer has been non-functional for months but despite numerous requests, the management staff have done nothing to ensure that it's repaired or replaced. With only 4 washers and 4 dryers per building, having one out of order creates a difficult situation for residents trying to do their laundry.

On the plus side, the maintenance staff are without exception friendly and responsive.

The apartments are in a great location and the people living there are generally quite nice, but there are few amenities and the management staff sometimes make residents feel like interlopers.

Ours was comparatively a short stay for about 10 months (before we moved out of CA). We (family of 3) thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Peaceful community, good facilities, friendly management staff, prompt maintenance staff.
Walking distance to all stores in Foothill Crossing shopping centre was a big plus.
Ron and Koty were very friendly and cooperative.

Not only is Springwood a nice and quiet place to live, but the staff (especially Ron and Hugo) go above and beyond the call of duty!

Housing is crazy in the Bay Area, so Springwood Apartments was a great find with good quality for the cost. The building is old and in need of renovation, so things broke fairly often in the apartment. This is also to be expected given California's building codes. However, the leasing office and staff is very responsive and super helpful. Every time that something needed repair, they sent someone to fix it that same day at no cost to me. The leasing office was communicative and made the moving in/out processes straightforward and easy. The apartment was clean and in good condition when I moved in.

The location is great, next to a shopping center with a Trader Joe's, Riteaid, and USPS store. It can be difficult to pull out of the complex during rush hours, but it is close to the 280 on-ramp. It's also very close to the amazing Rancho San Antonio park and ~15 minutes from Stanford. The complex has a well-maintained pool, grill, elevator, and hot tub. The main office is very communicative when these amenities are out of commission and they fix them in a timely manner. There is also a parking garage for residents. This is a safe complex and a quiet community with a lot of families.

Overall, I recommend staying here. I looked at several other apartments in this price range and nothing compares to the quality or reliability of Springwood.

Loving it so far, is set up in the hillside of silver lake so feels like you arent even in the city actually. Lots of trees on hill side and gardens all around the property for tenants. Parking included, units are a bit older but have been freshly painted with new flooring. I really dont mind it not being super modern since it is a large complex really set off to its self gated property for security is nice too.

My husband and I lived here on two separate occasions. So good we came back for more lol! We eventually realized the Bay Area was a pipe dream as we are not CEOs and moved north. If you can afford the Bay Area, this is a great spot.

Pros: Overall, great place. Very helpful and friendly staff. The staff is beyond epic, you don't know how good they are unless you have lived at other apt complexes. Those peeps are so nice and caring!!!!!When apartment needed repairs/newer appliances, they were extremely fast at addressing these issues. As in, same day fixing some times!!!

Only one gate key away from Trader Joe's, Peet's, Rite Aid! And a ~10-15min walk away from a park.

Cons: I think I can just call these "suggestions"??

The interior hallway carpets REALLY need to be replaced. Probably so pricy to do so, since this place is pretty big, but wishlist!!!

Laundry room floor states it contains cancer causing materials (asbestos). Maybbbbeeee just put in some non cancer tiles? They may have done this already??

Were there cockroaches outside sometimes? Yes. Inside apartment? No. (Just FYI The place we live in now definitely has them inside people's apartments...good times.)

Good luck pulling out of the complex in the mornings... the traffic is nuts since you are right next to the freeway entrance and Foothill.

The second time we moved in to Springwood our apartment had a slanted floor close to the wall along the entire length of the living room. It was not noticeable until you put a bookcase against it and realize it is really leaning away from that wall lmao! I never told management, I had already done the initial walk through and signed off, so that is on me for not catching that. I just didn't put any furniture along that wall.

(move out update at bottom of review)

So here's the deal, they are raising our rent by 10% for Oct 2014. A 1 bedroom 769sqft now goes for $2310 or more, which is 10% more than we are currently paying and we just moved in last year. That merits -1 star if not more! You will be paying for the Los Altos name even though you are so close to (and basically in) Cupertino. I know I know.. this is happening EVERYWHERE but still I hate that I have to pay up and shut up. At least Yelp gives me a place to vent. For what you get (tiny kitchen, no laundry in unit, loud highway in background), I think they are overvaluing themselves. But, then again, everything out here is overvalued, including us techie employees ;)

After speaking with other residents here, it seems like they are raising rents for everyone without discrimination, even longtime residents get annual increases of $200+ a month. The market is just so good these days they are doing it to match the market trends and they are doing it for all the residents.

OK, rant aside, the venue is extremely safe and remarkably clean. I never saw ANY bugs in my apartment and it's pretty soundproof (although my downstairs neighbors complained when I was dancing to XBox "Just Dance" claiming that the bass was too loud and we were shaking their bookcase. So much for exercising at home..). The staff that work here are exceptional and really responsive. Also, at least the water/sewage/trash is included in the rent. Another plus, there is an elevator and security to enter the building as well as underground parking. Another thing I like is the indoor sprinkler system in case there's ever a fire. My cats hate water, but at least it will keep them alive should there ever be one. Oh, and response time for a ticket is RIDICULOUSLY GOOD. Like, almost same day or next day! And the guys who work in maintenance are super friendly and know what they're doing.

I find the chlorine in the pool smells weird though! And, the nonstop sounds of the highways in the background isn't really easy to get used to. Before moving here I highly recommend you visit on a weekday and weekend to get a taste of the highway sounds. Also, the kitchen and bathroom counter tops are made of cheap plastic material and are not durable nor easy on the eyes. The kitchen is tiny and outdated and the bathroom door barely opens to allow you to fit inside. Also, our livingroom floor is a little uneven (we're up on the 3rd) which makes our furniture lean away from the wall towards the center of the room. We had to adapt by buying leaning furniture and using levelers. It's not a huge deal but I'm a perfectionist and hate leaning furniture even if it's only 5 degrees.

I must say my neighbors are WONDERFUL! I have never had such respectful and friendly neighbors ever before. Everyone says hi to my toddler son when we cross paths and I've become friends with a few people who have fed my cats when I went on vacation or just invited me over for tea. People tend to stay a few years so you don't have people just coming and going nonstop.

Move here for the location but if you're looking for a "deal" this probably isn't your best bet. If you want a safe and clean home in an excellent location that is very bay area priced, then this is your new home!

Move out update 2017: Our rent didn't go up as much after 2014 so the 10% increase was only due to the huge spike the bay area rental market got in 2013 and 2014. Things have stabilized in 2015 and 2016 thankfully! Also, when we moved out we got all of our deposit back except for the standard $50 non refundable cleaning fee only applicable for those with cats. Of course, we aren't jerks and cleaned the places out pretty well right before moving :)

Husband and I lived here for about 2.5 years. Just recently moved out due to acquiring a place of our own. Living here has been our best apartment experience. Staff is kind and quick to respond. Maintenance crew is top notch. They address issues quickly and are almost annoyingly nice all the time. Location is great as it is close to parks and walking distance from trader joes. Our only grudge was the length of time that the new clubhouse is taking to build, it's been under construction for what feels like 20 years, but I don't hold that against the management. Plus there was no construction happening outside of working hours so it was minimal disruption to our lives.

Lastly, after we moved out, they did not charge us anything unreasonable from the security deposit, and we got most of it back. It's been a positive experience for us and I wish them well. I would recommend this place to friends and family.

I've lived here about 9 months (since June) and I'm so glad I chose springwood. I live here with my boyfriend and we absolutely love it and wish we weren't moving states so that we could stay! Here are some detailed pros and cons:

      Pros:
      1. Convenient location - on the highways, plus a short walk to Trader Joe's, Rite aid, a postal annex, Starbucks, and a bank. If we ever forget anything for a recipe, it's a quick ten minutes, so convenient!
      2. Staff - Koty and Carol really care about each resident and get to know all of us. They are super thorough, and explain every bit of your lease. It's the most professional apartment staff I've ever known, and it's fantastic. Plus maintenance is wonderful!
      3. Apartment itself - simple but spacious for the price. Fellow residents are never loud - it's a good mix of older people, families, couples... And I haven't had a single noise complaint. The insulation between apartments is amazing honestly.
      4. Safety - I love that there are two keys (building + apartment) and that there is nightly security patrolling. I feel so safe and that was a really important thing for me.
      5. NO BUGS!!!

Cons: (only a few little things)
      1. Not a lot of natural light, but we fix that easily with lamps.
      2. I also wish there was a fitness center, since it's particularly difficult to go jogging by the highway, but again, not a dealbreaker at all considering the pros.
      3. Insulation of windows (to the outside) - I've heard complaints about the highway, but my apartment faces the pool so I haven't had that problem. However, although insulation inside is great and you never hear other residents, you can hear them outside, though the window by the pool for sure. This was never an issue for me though since the pool isn't open at night, but I figure I'd let you know in case that's a deal breaker for you.

Honestly, so many apartments in the bay area either suck with customer service and bugs and stuff, or rip you off with the deposit back, or they're great but overly expensive. As a reasonably priced apartment (for the area) with amazing pros for staff and service, I urge you to try this place. It's so worth it!

I lived in Springwood Apt for about 3 years. Its definitely one of the place I would recommend to my friends if they are coming to bay area. A lot of places like Rite-aid and Starbucks are nearby. Moreover its quieter here and residents are really good. I cherish my time spent here. 10/10
