Jim at Stans Transmissions was a huge help and super nice. I brought in 2 vehicles and his teams assessment (a free service) was really helpful. They explained the problem in laymen's terms and gave me a clear cost range dependant on what they found once it was open.

One of my vehicles seemed to have a transmission problem and they showed it was likely something else.

I was recommended to go to Stans by 2 friends and have recommended the place to friends already. Ask around. The work they do is fantastic.

This review is long overdue - Stan's Transmission ruined my car! These guys should not be in business!

In March 2021, I took my (almost) classic VW Golf here, as I had read the many good reviews. I am sorry I listened to them.

I was greeted by two gentlemen, one older and one younger (who recognized my car from his previous employment at Wilf's). He was all excited to see my car and an overhaul of my transmission was recommended (incl. taxes $3,900). My transmission had a minor leak and I wanted to be proactive rather than running into major trouble later.

After the first repair, the leak was not fully fixed and I had to return a second time.

Here, I should mention that my car was hardly used from 2019-2021 and was always (and still is) kept in the garage. My car has been taken care of, hand-washed, polished and pampered since I bought it back in 2000. It has been getting lots of attention wherever I go, as it still looks good for its age, and (before the 2nd repair) still smelled fresh. My A/C was in excellent working condition (I used it when driving to the shop) --- all this was about to change after I took it back for the 2nd repair.

Stan's had my car for a few days and when I went to pick it up, the windows were wide open (they said because of the hot weather, they didn't want to cause anything to crack, i.e. dashboard) and I had yellow dust all over the black seats and dash. The A/C was blowing hot air only and literally bits of manure were flying through the vents. The A/C was not functioning any longer.

When I mentioned all this to the two fellows in the office, the older one said that this is normal that dirt comes through the vents (EXCUSE ME ... but I have had my car for over 20 years and I never had foam bits and manure flying through the vents --- the air intake has filters!!! --- I don't know what kind of car he is driving!!!).
With this kind of response, I was never going to go back to this place. The issue with the leak was also not fully fixed, but now, on top of it all, I had to get a new A/C ($1,500 later ...) - and the smell, it never fully left my car. So each time I get into my vehicle, I am being reminded of this dreadful day I got taken for a ride at Stan's Transmission. NEVER AGAIN will I set foot in this shop! They are the worst!

They quoted me $1,800.00 for a rear differential seal.
I booked the appointment then checked around knowing it was high.
I found most other garages charging 4-$500.00
I called back and asked for another quote, this time they game me $600.00

I guess sort of like postal code contract billing, I have a range rover so this may be why. Who knows.

My car has been experiencing what sounded to me like transmission issues so I did a big Yelp search to see who would be best and Stan's was listed as #1. With many raving reviews, I decided to call in and see if I could set up an appointment for them to take a look to see what was wrong. When I arrived I was greeted by two gentlemen, and one asked the other to go take a look. The technician went outside for maybe 3 minutes and told me that I would likely need to replace my entire transmission (costing $4000+) and that they wouldn't even be able to look any further or help me and told me to go across the street. This was quite the steep claim for someone who hadn't even hooked up the car to a reader to see what was going on--just a mere listen to see what they thought. I left feeling quite defeated as if a transmission shop couldn't even help me then what would I do...

I'm glad I continued trying other shops. I just had a very lovely experience with Westcoast Auto Repairs and after a few hours of digging, they reported it wasn't a transmission issue at all and would only cost $300 to fix.

So very greatly disappointed in my experience with Stan's and very confused as to why they didn't even take the time to actually look into the issue before sending a paying customer away. I will not be returning. Good luck to those who want help!

Jim and Randy were so fantastic, honest, and generous with their time and fixed our car for a fraction of what the dealer quoted. We have a 9-year old Acura MDX with low km and the transmission was slipping. The Acura dealership test drove it and said that the transmission was kicked and would need to be rebuilt ($4500) or replaced ($6500). They said it would need to go to a transmission shop anyhow for the rebuilding option, so I googled around and saw the terrific reviews at Stan's. Long story short: Jim and Randy identified that our car was short on transmission fluid, implying a leak (and refused to charge me for their time or even materials). They topped it up and told me to drive it some more; the slipping problems were gone, so I came back and they found the leak and fixed it for $350. Car has been great for the last 2 months. Thanks! Highly recommended!

Jim helped me out from the first moment he picked up the phone. Was going to buy a car & was tipped off by my mechanic that it might have a transmission issue & to take it to a transmission shop to find out if I was super invested in the vehicle.

Jim spent literally 1 hour checking the vehicle out, really honestly cared about what was going on as to why I was getting the car checked out. When he found out what I was going to be charged for it he told me I was not getting a good deal & that to repair the transmission issue would cost me over $2000!!

Seriously this shop saved my ass on a terrible vehicle.

Super glad I went here. I would recommend this place & I would go again.

If you're looking for top notch service than this is the place! Jim and his team of professionals recently fixed the transmission on my 2007 Mazda 3 GT and had it up and running in no time. From the moment I picked up the phone they were incredibly friendly, honest and provided outstanding service. I'd highly recommend them to anyone. Thanks so much!!

Had my '95 LandRover Discovery 300TDi , " dragged in " from a Maple Ridge Shop ( by the same name ) It wouldn't come out of Park after Transmission Rebuilt in London was installed.Ran up a Bill of $570 in Maple Ridge and it was climbing as it still wouldn't come out of Park.

Jim and his guys got it going by straightening out the Linkage which wasn't done right at the Install. Cost: $359 ( which included the $120 Towing from Maple Ridge ). They know what they are doing.

I can't recommend these guys enough. I went to him based on location and the online google & yelp reviews.

After going to the BMW dealership because of clutch issues and having a slave cylinder replaced and given an estimate of $4500 to complete the rest of job I did some research and called up Stan's transmissions. I spoke to Jim, the proprietor, definitely a good guy to talk to. He was very reassuring and explained everything well.

I brought it in they did a great job, used BMW parts, and cost $1600 all in. almost 1/3 of the dealers estimate and I'm sure they would have gone over their estimate.

He was very fair, all the staff I spoke to there were great. Jim was reluctant to do any work that might not have been required in retrospect. IE the diagnostics can be challenging and cost to replace a part that ends up not being the issue can be a bummer. He gave me all the facts and his opinion so I could make an educated decision.

      Overall great experience.

Very trustworthy, they rebuilt transmission and gave me a one year warranty, a year and 5 months later the OD light began to flash and the shifts became very rough, they fixed the problem and didn't charge me anything. They stan'd by there work. Honourable people.
