Surprisingly tasty sushi in this small restaurant. With 2 booths and 3 tables, it's a tight squeeze but well worth the block walk away from the Joyce skytrain station. It offers similar items to other sushi places, but at a reasonable price and even more so with the quality on offer.

We ordered the party tray A and the veggie bento to share. We added a couple items on the side as well: salmon roll, tuna roll and chicken karaage. The party tray came with a good selection of rolls that went beyond the typical stuff you get and includes a beef teriyaki roll, chicken teriyaki roll and one of their speciality rolls. While we only had a couple items with raw fish, they were fresh and plentiful. I'll definitely be back if in the area.

For this first visit, food came quickly and while service was a bit forgetful, when prompted we got exactly what we needed quickly. There were lots of people doing takeout while we were there which I can understand. If I lived nearby, I'd order from here too!

I went back a couple weeks later and service was much better and food was just as quick. This time I ordered a veggie sunomono, negitoro roll and salmon roll. Again the fish tasted really fresh and had a good texture. Definitely a favourite for cheap sushi.

We first came here on a Monday evening, and the very small restaurant was full, so we tried again the next rainy evening. We were successful in getting a table this time. The prices were very reasonable. Even though they were really busy, the service was attentive. I could see them packing a lot of takeout orders.

I had the chicken teri donburi and salmon roll. The donburi was a warm rice bowl with chicken and teriyaki sauce. I really enjoyed the flavour and the soft chicken. The salmon roll was very small and simple, but I expected this as it was only $4. My friend had the spicy salmon combo, which she thoroughly enjoyed, and it was a nice portion size.

      Updated review

I have frequented Sushi Taku a few times now since my family lives close by and with the rising cost of food everywhere, the value is of their lunch bentos, rolls and combos keeps us returning for more.

Tucked away from the busy traffic around Joyce Station, we ordered Party Tray B and the Taku Combo for lunch today. For only around $40, the tray was a great deal with a good variety of rolls including california, dynamite, yam, chopped scallop and two special rolls too! The rolls are not massive but there is a good amount of filling. I found that their rice could have used a bit more flavouring but I liked how it wasnt packed or mushy at all.

The taku combo was also delicious with four pieces of seared nigiri and 6 pieces of sashimi. The sashimi was cut a bit thin but it was fresh and tasty!

Overall, great prices for sushi in an area that doesnt have much competition.

Parking is not anywhere remotely close, be ready to walk.

This id a HIDDEN GEN of a sushi spot. It seems like alot of locals grab dinner here as we came on a Wednesday around dinner time and there were easily over 30 take out orders in the hour span we were there.

Sashimi portions are gigantic and extremely fresh. Sushi was very very decent for the price.

Not a lot of seating indoor so I definitely recommend coming during non peak hours

Excellent quality sushi spot in an outskirt of vancouver. Fish pieces are large, menu selection is unique, and prices are value focused.

I believe the establishment is owned and operated by Koreans, which is very common for japanese restaurants in north america. Service was fast and kind.

      Would definitely come back again.

This sushi restaurant is closed by my place. It is running by Korean. They are quite efficient and fast paced. They take many orders and chefs can prepare food for customers quickly.

The menu includes a lot of options. I personally like to order their udon, sashimi, party trays, chicken kaarage, and some small rolls. The quality is average and if we are not too picky, the food is good enough.

Pricing is reasonable and I feel it's more affordable comparing to other sushi restaurants. The restaurant doesn't have a parking lot. I usually park at the residential area and walk to the restaurant.

I would hope that this restaurant would add Oshi sushi or aburi sushi to the menu!

Been to Sushi Taku for a couple of visits. They're a small, Japanese run neighbourhood sushi spot a few doors down from Classic Chinese Craft Kitchen.

The inside is small with 5 tables (fits 15 people). Service is friendly and they came by several times to refill our waters and tea.

The menu has a variety of dishes. Bento boxes are only available weekdays (11:30am to 2:30pm). Note: no gluten free soy sauce available and they close for a break between 2:30pm to 3:00pm.

      Trip #1
      - Ebi sunomono ($5.25)
      - Chicken karage ($7.95) - takes ~10 minutes to prepare but it's worth the wait. Piping hot, crunchy exterior and soft, tender inside.
      - Beef yaki soba ($12.25) - good portion.
      - Mango mango roll ($10.50) - sauce added a nice sweetness.
      - Salmon sashimi ($14.50 for 8) - good portion size, especially for the price. Hard to find cheap salmon sashimi these days.
      - Negitoro roll ($4.75)
      - Spicy chopped scallop roll ($5.75)
      - California roll ($4.50) - standard.

      Trip #2
      - Scallop tataki roll ($11.25)
      - Negitoro roll ($4.75) - tuna and green onions are oddly not mixed together. Don't love how they're made here.
      - Oshinko roll ($3.25) - lacked both a crunchy texture and pickled taste.
      - Deluxe assorted sashimi ($28.95 for 22) - 4 salmon, 4 sockeye salmon, 4 tuna, 3 tako, 3 amaebi, 2 toro and 2 saba. For a "deluxe", would have liked one or two other types of sashimi offered. Best pieces were the saba and toro. I liked the regular salmon (fattier, better bite) over the sockeye salmon. Found the tako watery.
      - Spicy agedashi tofu ($6.25) - standard.
      - Sunny roll ($9.95)
      - Spicy chopped scallop roll ($5.75)

Nothing will blow you away at ST but decent value. 3.5 stars.

Small shop with easy parking in front and in the back. Service is super slow (30+min for takeout). They get a lot of phone orders and have limited seating. They ran out of sushi rice by near end of the day.

      10/10 Salmon Tataki $10.95
      10/10 Pokémon 12.95
      10/10 Alaska $9.50

Fish was all fresh and rolls were cheap! (Relative to other places). Was full after but still cannot compare to ayce price. If you are not a bigger eater then this place is worth it for you!

Great neighborhood sushi spot that was very affordable.

There was plenty of 2 hour street parking right in front of the restaurant, plus it's right next to the Joyce station so very easy to get to via car or transit.

My friend and I came for dinner Tuesday at 6, and there was a short wait of 10-15 minutes. It's a tiny place with just 4 tables, so I can understand why. They do a lot of takeout/delivery, as I saw folks come in constantly to pick up orders.

Most of the menu is dedicated to sushi and sashimi, though they have one page with rice and noodle options. They also offer bento boxes for weekday lunches.

I hadn't had sushi in a long time, so I was super excited to go ham on the rolls and nigiri. We shared the dragon roll ($11.25), crazy boy ($8.35), and salmon and avocado ($5.50). I also ordered individual nigiri pieces of amaebi, aburi salmon, toro, and chopped scallop. The nigiri was quite affordable and cost somewhere in the $2-3 range per piece.

All of the sushi was really good. I love unagi and salmon, so I know I can never go wrong with any rolls with these ingredients. The surprise of the night was the crazy boy roll, which is a deep fried California roll. I haven't had a deep fried roll in years but I loved it here. The roll is dipped in batter and fried, so each piece is hot and has a nice crunch to it. The nigiri was delicious as well. My favorites were the toro and chopped scallop.

When it came time to get the check, it was nice to see they split it automatically for us already so we didn't need to ask for split checks.

This may not be the most traditional sushi spot, as I believe it's Korean-run and a lot of their rolls have various sauces drizzled on top, but I really enjoyed the food. Plus it was very affordable for sushi... my total for the meal was ~$27! Not bad.

Great prices and great food. The portions are somewhat smaller but for this price is understandable.

      === 1. VERDICT/VALUE
I'm going to go against the grain of my fellow Yelpers here - perhaps we just got bad takeout? Perhaps a dine-in experience is needed? Either way, I would ask for sauces on the side (less is more) and ahem, avoid the chicken!

      === 2. FOOD
      Salmon Sashimi ($13):
Eight pieces of salmon sashimi - not eh best value in town, but nicely done!

      Black Swan Roll ($9.95):
So it's a dynamite roll with the avocado on top, constructed with black rice. It tasted the best of the three rolls, but perhaps because it didn't come overwhelmed with extra toppings on top...

      Taku Roll ($10.50):
So it's prawn tempura with imitation crab, cucumber and tuna...with a whole boatload of mysterious crunchy stuff and sauce on top. It would have been fine without that extraneous layer on top...!

      Volcano Roll ($9.50):
A California roll with scallop on top - it would have been good...if they didn't add the layer of tempura bits and sauce all over it.

      Chicken Teriyaki ($10.75):
Was it really chicken? The texture was wrong, and it was like someone took chicken meat, watered down the taste and made it flaky...? The Teri sauce couldn't save this one and we didn't bother eating it - even my toddler (who really only eats chicken) avoided it :(

      === 3. CONCLUSION
I understand the aspect of artistry that could be present in cooking and how everyone has differing tastes. However, IMHO, less is more, and simplicity is elegant - I think I would have appreciated the seafood and rice much more so without the copious toppings and sauce - I could then actually taste the seafood.

If I were to go back, it would include requests to leave the toppings aside...and avoidance of the chicken!
