T & N fixed my thermostat housing and AC compressor for my two cars with OEM parts. Unlike the dealer who quoted me $275 for a coolant leak inspection, they did all the inspections for free. The dealer quoted me just for potential thermostat housing replacement, T&N did extra work like one hose replacement, oil change with 2/3 of the dealer's quote.
After the car was fixed, the owner showed me the details about the job they've done and also the failed parts that were taken out.
I'd trust this shop since they already have so many clients to make them busy enough. I do a few maintenance jobs myself and their inspection result is as expected.
This review is written after a one week test drive and I'm happy with everything so far.
Tip: The shop is quite busy. Most of my communications are thru texts. It'll be helpful to schedule an appointment early and get an estimate timeline. Perhaps there are already many cars in the queue.

I've been on the hunt for a reliable, professional, and reasonably priced auto mechanic in San Jose since coming out here. Nhan Tran is all of that. He is also extremely courteous and exudes an air of humility. He really is in it for the cars and the customers.

Had a 2012 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport that stalled out and shuddered pretty badly when in drive/reverse. There aren't a ton of Mitsubishi's out here, which always made me nervous about getting the car worked on. Took it to the dealership, thinking sure, I'll pay a ridiculous amount for something stupid, but at least they'll be certified and knowledgeable about my car. They quoted me $8-10k for a replacement transmission. When I asked if they looked at anything else or just went straight for the transmission, they said they did not look at anything else. Paid them the $225 fee for diagnostics and decided to get a second opinion.

Had the car towed to T & N Auto Services for a second opinion. From the time I messaged Nhan on Yelp for the initial appointment to today when I picked up the key, the experience was very pleasant. He performed several diagnostics (for free) and in the end told me that his biggest concern for the car was the amount of rust underneath it (Thank you, East Coast weather!). He gave me his honest opinion which was to salvage the car and not put any money into repairs.

While the dealership would have been happy starting with replacing my transmission (likely knowing other work would soon need to be done on it), Nhan took the customer's perspective and told me it would not be worth it. This is the kind of honesty I am looking for.

One notable thing: The lot is pretty tight. Nhan is great about keeping his eye out for you if you communicate to him your estimated arrival time. But you should anticipate a tight parking lot situation.

As others have said - I will absolutely be going back to T & N for my future auto needs. Thank you!!

R.I.P. 'Bitchy, it's been a while ride.

I had Nhan do a 60K type service on my older Toyota van, the second time I have had work done here. At time of drop off, we did a walk around inspection. Then, he popped the hood to look at the engine with his mechanic's eye and explained to me what he saw. I have never had a dealership service department take the time to do this. Then, after inspecting the van in the shop he texted me his estimate which was very reasonable. At completion and pick up, Nhan showed me photos he had taken of different parts of the service. I know a little about cars but like most people I have to rely on the mechanic's expertise and honesty. I recommend T & N very highly.

No one ever wants to deal with car trouble, the first thought that comes to your mind is it's going to cost a lot!

I had a slight issue with my car turning on after I put gas in it. It wouldn't turn on. I gave it a moment and I was able to get it going again. I also noticed my car making a noise when turning the steering wheel left and right. I wanted to deal with these issues so I searched Yelp since I moved to this side of town and needed a new mechanic. All the reviews seemed great and it was pretty close by so I sent a quote request and outlined my car issue.

Tran messaged back fairly quickly and asked further questions about the issue. He recommended an appointment date for the week and I agreed with the day and time. I dropped off my car today and he said it would be about two hours of assessing the issue and he'd let me know.

After a couple of hours I received a text from Tran who outlined the issues he found. He also sent me pictures of what needed to be repaired. I asked him for a quote to get everything fixed and I felt his pricing was fair, so I agreed to have everything fixed. He messaged me again and said my car was ready. I had dropped off my car at 11am and everything was completed by 4:30 which I thought was great!

When I arrived to get my car, Tran went over everything he repaired and even showed me the parts that were replaced and where they were made.The parts were made in Japan which I liked since that's where my car was originally built. He walked me out to my car to let me know how to continue maintenance moving forward and what to look out for. You can tell Tran really cares about his work and customers.

This will be my go-to auto shop moving forward!

Great service! Very reliable! Had 2 cars transmission fluid change and had my trunk cable fixed.Before trans I was at another mechanic to have my trunk cable done. This guy he refused. He said "it will take me all day" trans accommodated me with no problem. As for my 2018 Honda civic the old mechanic had me bough transmission fluid from the dealer because he said "you want to use Honda's transmission fluid not after market" I bough it then he refused to do it because I told him there are 2 filters he need to replace. He said" take it to the dealer". Obviously I left that mechanic. Trans accommodated me again and took him those transmission fluid. He swap both filters and gave me the car back in the same day. Quoted me fairly. Tran also took critical picture to show you his honest work. No questions. 5 stars! Highly recommended. Trusted mechanic are hard to find!

Best auto care service in the Bay Area. My engine has not been that clean since purchased.

I have only done a handful of Yelp reviews; unfortunately I'm the kind of person who will insist I'll yelp a business for their great service but then space out and forget to do it forever.

But when I encounter one who blows me away, and makes me rethink the standards I expect from professionals in an industry, I can't move on until I've given a worthy review. And this is the case here. TL;DR: you will not find a better mechanic in the greater SJ area, and possibly the entire South Bay, than Tran and Nhan.

I only had the pleasure of meeting Nhan this time - I'm sure I'll meet Tran for future repairs - but he was all that was needed to ensure I'd come here as a steadfast, loyal customer from this point forward. I was already baffled by the sheer ratio of 5 star reviews in the first place, having NEVER seen such a record on Yelp for mechanics. That kind of credibility actually made me excited about the experience of getting my 2012 Civic LX fixed. Excited. Even knowing I was gonna be spending a ton of money on the repair. And no, I'm not high!

I get paranoid about noises and symptoms coming from my car, having zero knowledge, skill or ability to do anything car related except drive it, and in this case I was assuming the transmission was going out, the suspension was about to buckle, the wheel bearing was about to fly off... Turns out it was just bad front shocks, and Nhan was refreshingly clear on explaining the specific issue and what he needed to replace.

The other 400-some-odd reviewers have already explained in detail why this place is the best, so I'll just recap my experience (and what you'll also get from these guys) in bullet points:

* Above all, and in contrast to most mechanics (IME), T&N are cordial and respectful, happy to spend time having a dialogue and takes care to help you with any question or concern

* Communication is epically fast; quoted fast, texted me updates in real time, and turnaround on my repair (and for most people apparently) is one freaking day.

* Pricing is set with generosity and genuine care in mind. My estimate was $975, but when I came to pay it he deducted $25, completely unprompted and for no reason other than kindness.

* PICTURES ARE SENT, before and after the repair. This one made me super happy. Never experienced that before and I felt like I got to know my car in the process.

* When picking up my car, he showed me the old shocks and explained what happened to them AND showed me the beautiful new installations. It blew my mind how badly the local freeways and roads destroyed my old shocks. Fuck highway 87 for that, by the way!

*He did all kinds of general vehicle necessities - oil change, coolant flush, wiper fluid replacement, follow up inspection. No charge. Unbelievably awesome person.

And as an aside, something that resonated with me was his openness and modesty about his own experiences. Nhan is clearly an intelligent man, having multiple degrees in public service-related fields, and is genuinely passionate about both the inner workings of cars and educating himself in general. Crazy work ethic, I walked away respecting him greatly, even beyond his great service.

I could go on and on. He deserves a thorough 5 star review and I hope I made good on that!

The best autoshop in town. Nhan is a high quality mechanic. He would explain the issue nicely and got great price.
