Taisho Japanese Grill And Bar

Excellent food and service. A walk in on a Sunday after golf and it was the right decision. An extensive saké list and the omakase sashimi really clicked.

We're visiting the town and one night we were craving sushi. One of the first options that we saw on the list was Taisho and we decided to give it a try and we're not disappointed. It's located in a lively neighbourhood and it opens till late which it's great. It's stylish and modern. It's very quiet and spacious. Perfect for a date or friendly meetup. The staff are polite, helpful and efficient. The menu is quite extended. A lot of options to choose from such as teppanyaki, sushi rolls, sashimis, nigiri, noodles, etc. Prices are reasonable. Mocktail options are good. I recommend the Shizu Mocktail. Very refreshing. The sushi rolls were delightful and colourful. I recommend this place!

Ordered the Beef Tenderloin TEPPANYAKI. The meat was as far from tenderloin as you can get from a cow - grisly, chewy horrible meat. The teppanyaki vegetables consisted of huge thick pieces of cabbage taken from the heart of the cabbage - fully 1/2 inch thick, impossible to eat. They comped us both meals, which was thoughtful, but I advised the manager that she needed to do something about the kitchen, since they clearly did not care at all what they threw on the plate. It was disgraceful. Selling flank steak or worse at tenderloin prices - fraudulent. Be warned.

This is a restaurant that does-well, what it sets out to do.

Lovely fresh flavors, with original nuance. Nice new (in 2024) addition to the local community. Prices were fair, because there is quality in the ingredients.

The room is clean, open, and more than adequate for a restaurant where the focus is on quality food.

Service was attentive, thoughtful, and professional.

Friendly staff, good service, sushi was very fresh and good portion sizes too. Menu had a nice variety of food. We even got a dessert on the house! My family and I enjoyed our dinner here during a short visit, will definitely be back!

Always great food and service. Anytime I can, I am bringing my friends and colleagues to enjoy it with me.

The servers were nice, but I had to ask for things a few times from a few separate wait-staff. I had a yam roll that was mostly air-spaces, had a strange sulfur-y smell, and was so wide and flat (like a typical dynamite roll) that it was difficult to pick up and mostly just disintegrated on my plate. The room was crowded and very loud, and all the walls are painted black, making the ambience a little depressing and oppressive. Some family members really like this place, so I'll have to go back; I sincerely hope they improve, and that I can find something to enjoy on the menu.
Edited to add: Second visit there today, and I had a much better experience. I had the kung pao agedashi tofu to start and the beef yakiniku don as a main, and they were both very good. I also tried a bit of my table-mate's chicken karaage (deep-fried chicken) and it was delicious. I guess on my first visit, the kitchen was off their game. Glad it was better this time!

Cook Street Village just got lucky! Food was amazing and the portions large. Eric is an amazing chef. Highly recommend Taisho.

Staff was nice. But the expensive real crab california rolls where dry and salty. The tempura was good but a little too greasy. The yam rolls were good.
