Just had my first taste from this beautiful restaurant. My lunch today was delivered promptly and everything is still warm and fresh. The gentleman who delivered my lunch was very courteous.

I had the 1/2 bowl kitchari - very flavourful. This is a great dish for the tummy. Very good for the digestion. I find it to be quite grounding actually.

I also tried something new that I have never had before. It was their Gatta Sabji Plate which comes with 3 plain layered whole wheat flatbread served with chickpeas dumplings yogurt curry. The flatbread was perfectly cooked, not greasy and great texture. The chickpeas dumplings was delightful.

I forgot to ask for mild spice but the level of spice was just perfect. Not overpowering.

I plan on visiting the restaurant to try their Royal Rajasthani Thali very soon.

Now, back to work with a very satisfied tummy!

I came here with my vegan friend and I think the owner and the people working there are really nice.
However maybe I'm not used to this style of Indian food, I just don't think they taste good.
Almost everything is fried so if you came here for "healthy food," look elsewhere.
The samosas are good but as usual, heavily fried and a little oily.
The Aloo Gobi (cauliflower and potatoes) is also decent but almost everything else in the Thali is not as good.
The difference between vegan and regular Thali is whether they use yogurt in the drink or the sauce.

I recently moved nearby and have been so excited to try their thali (which they offer all day!), I waited until my parents were visiting to bring them here. We got in no problem without the need to make a reservation (it looks like they're rarely completely full) and had a really nice experience! My dad and I got thali (he got the regular Royal Thal and I got the Vegan) and my mom got a kachori tokri (sampler with moongdal kachori and matar kachori) since she just wanted a snack. I was torn between the regular and vegan since I really wanted the masala chaach for my drink, but when I told the waitress she said I could do with the vegan thal with the chaach, so I really appreciated that!
All of the items in the thal were amazing! When our plates were brought out, the waitress took both my dad and I through what all the items were and the recommended pairings with the bread/rice. It was difficult to remember everything perfectly, but whether I got all the pairings right or not, I appreciated having an idea of the best way to combine the different dishes. My favourite vegetable item in the thal was the pumpkin and fenugreek, which wasn't part of the regular thal (although the regular had chickpea flour dumplings in yogurt that looked amazing), so I'm glad I got the vegan, but I'll get the regular if I go back to try more items! I usually order breads and no rice at Indian restaurants because most rice isn't too exciting to me, but the rice pulao here was great. Also the whole wheat ladoo for dessert was so good! I've had a few ladoo but never with whole wheat and I loved how wholesome this was, it was much less sweet than others I've tried and a little earthy. Everything was flavourful but nothing was super spicy-hot (some items had a little kick and others were quite mild), so it should be safe for most people unless you're extremely sensitive to spice. Even though we didn't get free refills since not everyone at the table ordered thali, my dad and I were both very full without any refills. It's really great value.
I think it was just one waitress attending to all the tables, so it was difficult to get her attention at times, which resulted in a longer wait than we would have liked before ordering and paying, but if you're looking for a very relaxed pace, which the atmosphere and cooking style seems to lend itself to, it might be an appropriate waiting time. Once we did order the food was ready pretty quickly. And otherwise our waitress was very courteous and did a great job. My parents aren't vegetarian and my dad is a pretty big meat-eater even though they both eat lots of veg food with me, but the place was an especially big hit with him and my dad said it was one of those places where he didn't miss the meat at all.

We wanted to try some different Indian food. Checked out Tatta Chulha, which specializes in Rajasthan vegetarian cuisine. They're located a few doors down from Fable Diner.

We dropped in on a semi-busy Sunday (12:45pm). Service was okay but they never brought any refills to our table after they offered.

The thali claims to offer 15+ options but really it's a couple of small dishes with rice, three breads, two desserts and a drink. It's an extra $1.00 charge for masala chai.

      - Lemon ($3.99) - freshly squeezed. Interesting as there's a subtle salty note. Wasn't impressed that they double charged our table.
      - Masala chaas - this is the default drink that comes with the thali. Spiced buttermilk made from fresh yogurt and cilantro. A savoury drink that smells like boiled eggs, tastes like raita.
      - 2x Royal regular thali ($24.99) - the thali is carb centric. The three breads are plain and heavy. There's a bun (baati) that is hearty and dense. Best thing on the thali was the spicy panchmel dal and peas & carrots. Everything else was unmemorable.
      - Royal gluten-free thali ($26.49) - B asked for gluten free and dairy free. Beware, you get less items with no replacements. Her favourites were the deep fried lentil fritters and peas & carrots. The other items were bland.

Did not find the thalis worth the $25+ price point. 2.5 stars.

Superb authentic Indian food in Vancouver! We had the dal bati, kachoris and the dal pakwan, bedmi puri , all of which were flavorful and very home style.

      Tatta Chulha

Lunch at Tatta Chulha during the Diwali weekend
Food is from the North Western State of Rajasthan, India.

This is a unique cuisine offering, very different from the regular North Indian/Punjabi style which is more dominant in Lowermainland. Food is usually rich in Ghee, Besan (chickpea flour) and has rich flavors - sits heavy in the stomach.

They have an AL carte menu but they are more popular for this Rajasthani Thali. Thali has about 12-15 items including the dessert and side drinks.

      25.99$

Note: They take reservations online on Google. Some special items on the menu need to be pre-order a day before. No parking available on Broadway since its a construction area so need to find parking around Main street and walk up to the place. Vegetarian restaurant.

Worth the 5 stars!! Indian cuisine in Vancouver mostly consists of North Indian food but Tatta Chulha serves Indian food from Rajasthan. Their gorgeous copper "thal" or plate gives you the feeling of Indian Royalty.

The staff take the time to explain dishes to you and the significant of Rajasthani food. Was extremely impressed by the variety in their menu and the affordability of their meals!

In general, Rajasthani food includes vegan, gluten free, vegetarian and non vegetarian food!! Making it a good spot for anyone and everyone.

Sometimes it's just nice to sit at the table and have the food served to you, without making multiple trips to the buffet counter. I like that about unlimited thali places. Just don't be shy, ask for more helpings and eat till you pop!

This is a casual eatery serving authentic Rajasthani food. Am sure the thali offerings keep changing every few days or every day. When we went today for lunch, we got to eat some of the best you can get - dal bati, aloo tikki chaat, kadi, gatte ki subzi, aloo mutter, kaddu, rice with chickpeas, 3 types of rotis , lahsun chutney, aam ras, churma laddu and Chas. Very healthy with generous amount of ghee on some of the items (the way it should be!) and didn't make us feel overly stuffed either.

They do multiple refills and have a kids thaali version that comes with smaller portions and no refills. Recommend making a reservation, because it can get pretty crowded quickly! Khamma Ghani!

Fun, unusual experience -- not the kind of Indian food I'm used to, but I enjoyed it.

The restaurant is all vegetarian and have vegan options, including a vegan thali that must be ordered 2 hours in advance -- so be prepared. We each got the vegan thali ($25 plus tax), which comes with a drink (jal-jeera, a cumin and lemon-based salty drink), and big plate of various dishes, plus two desserts. I wasn't a huge fan of 2 of the dishes, but the rest were all solid, albeit some were on the overly salty side. You get 3 different kinds of roti for dipping, all of which were nice. My favourite dish was the soup (the largest bowl in the picture), the dal, and the pumpkin dish. The thali could use more veggies, as it's very complex-carb-heavy and light on the veggies. You get one free refill of all the dishes if your stomach has room, which mine really didn't, but I re-upped on a couple of my favourites anyway. Very friendly and helpful service rounds out the experience.

Overall, a little pricy but you'll doubtless leave full; the food is quite heavy and salty; but I really enjoyed the experience. I'd recommend it if you're looking for veggie Indian food that's different from what you get at most places. Recommended.

When we heard that there is a place that serves Rajasthani Thali we had to try it out! Thanks to the previous reviews we knew what to expect regarding the refill. We later found out that you can't get a refill if one person goes for a la carte. I made a reservation beforehand on the website to ensure our seats (taking no risks here!)

There was construction going on in the street so it is a bit of detour to get in. The ambience is nice with decorations of some trademark Rajasthani items.

We loved pretty much everything on the thaal. Particularly liked the gatte ki sabji, daal, and of course the baati! The aloo tikki was really good too.

Service was very friendly, patiently accommodating all the changing requests I made. Overall a very good experience.
