For fans of Hai Ky Mi Gia, Thai Nghiep Mi Gia is a wonderful alternative located in the Sunset district.

With a menu very similar to Hai Ky, all the popular items such as the fantastic braised duck noodle soup, fried fish cake, and beef satay are offered.

Like Hai Ky, almost all items are available with either egg based thin won ton noodles or wider ho fun rice noodles. Unfortunately the thin rice noodle option at Hai Ky Mi Gia isn't here.

Preparation and service were quick and friendly and I even opted for my soup noodles served dry with soup broth on the side. Our order:

Fried Fish cake - $5.50. Deliciously deep fried and as good as Hai Ky's version. Served with crispy and tart pickled vegetables.

Braised Duck Ho Fun Noodle - $9.25. Ordered dry with soup on the side. The braised duck is soft, tender, and flavorful. Tear apart, mix with the noodles, add condiments to preference and enjoy. The soup broth is clean and piping hot.

Beef Satay with Egg and Ho Fun Noodles - $9.75. A large bowl served with soup on the side. The satay is flavorful and envelopes both the noodles and the thinly sliced pieces of beef. Vegetables make up the rest of the dish. Very tasty.

Shredded chicken with Ho Fun Noodles -$8.00. Tender pieces of chicken meat in soup broth. This is a simple and easy to enjoy choice for those looking for something clean and healthy. Great portion size and perfect noodles.

Overall, we had a great stop here. The noodle dishes are great and it's nice to be in Sunset instead of the Tenderloin. The final nicety is that glasses of mildly sweetened soy milk are complimentary for in house diners. Sweet!

Thai Nghiep Mi Gia accepts credit cards for orders over $20 including Amex.

Got their beef stew egg noodle soup ($15) but ordered the wrong noodles! Tried to get their thick noodles but got their thin noodles instead. Came with a lot of meat but the beef tasted very gamey. Very tender but flavor wasnt the best. The soup is a tomato base which I like bc it's usually thicker but I recommend the thick wavy noodles instead of the thin noodles. The duck in their popular dish was fall off the bone and realllyyyy good 10/10 recommend

Also the soy milk was really good

This is going to be one of my regular spots in the sunset! It's a very endearing hole-in-the-wall spot. There's ample parking around, and there's usually space for seating so the wait shouldn't be too long. They do close a bit earlier than other restaurants so keep that in mind if you plan to eat there for dinner.

Vietnamese coffee is great, not too sweet
Egg noodles are delicious and the texture is perfect
      Duck leg is super tender!!

This is an underrated restaurant out in the sunset area. In a quiet neighborhood. Didn't plan this but I was in that area and try to find a place to go for lunch. And since it was a chilly day. The noodle sounds great to me.

I think the vibe it's just like hai ky mi gia in tenderloin area but they sell a lot more options of noodle here.

Seems like most of people there were local who lives in the area. Service was nice.

I got order of fried egg roll , came out hot and crispy and cheap! 1 pc per dollar. Taste was not bad

But then the noodle came , 1 was the duck with dumpling , the broth was so good and the duck just came out off the bone!!! So so good !!!!

Also the beef was really really tender.
Both of them was a hit!!!

Don't expect anything more than just good food with a good price. This is totally worth to try if you like Asian noodle.

Probably one of my favorite finds this year! Parking can be a pain but the food is worth the walk if you park a few blocks away. We got the Braised duck leg with wonton thin egg noodle, one with soup on the side and one with soup inside. The duck is cooked perfectly, where it falls off the bone. I loved adding the vinegar from the pickled chilis for some sour balance, that made the bowl literally perfect. Can't wait to come back to try their other noodles!

Came to Thai Nghiep Ky Mi Gia with a friend at 3pm on a Wednesday and it was still relatively busy considering the time, with half of the tables occupied. We were sat down immediately and to my luck they hadn't sold out of the braised duck. It's a hole in the wall kind of place, with paintings on the walls and just a little worn down so that you know its authentic.

-#7 Braised Duck Leg With Won Ton Egg Noodle Soup ($15): I always get the noodles with the soup on the side, in case I cant finish everything so the noodles dont get soggy. The braised duck was saltier than I expected, but with the noodles and soup balanced out. The wontons were also nice and flavorful, and the broth warm, simple and comforting.

Everything comes with the choice of complimentary tea or soymilk, and I LOVE the soymilk; it's the classic hot sweetened asian soymilk that is just so much better than the soymilk you buy from supermarkets.

For the price, Thai Nghiep Ky Mi Gia is one of the most affordable bowls of heartwarming comforting noodles in the city, and my only regret is that it isn't open for longer hours.

I finally got to try this place for lunch on a busy Saturday and was seated immediately. The restaurant was chattering with a bunch of families and it felt very home- y! We got the fried fish cake as an appetizer, duck egg noodle with wonton and side soup, and the satay noodle.

I honestly would've given this 5 stars if it weren't for the overcooked noodles in the satay soup. The soup was sadly ruined because the noodles were so soft they were disintegrating in the soup. However, the soup itself had amazing flavor and I loved the peanuts.

I loved my duck noodle soup with wonton! Definitely pour the soup in the egg noodles or else it'll be pretty dry. I don't normally like duck thigh because it's very finnicky but this duck was soo fragrant, juicy, and tender and fell straight off the bone. The wonton skin itself also had very thin skin and the filling inside was so hearty. I also remember the noodles being tossed with a little bit of scallion oil and it was just chef's kiss!

I want to come back and really hope that next time the noodles in my friend's satay soup aren't as overcooked.

This hole on the wall hidden gem caught Kevin's eyes after a relaxing day at the beach nearby in the city in this fine 4th of July!

There are only certain places I'd have duck from and this place is no doubt one of those few places, the braised duck leg was just braised to perfection, a literal off the bone scene that made the dining experience that much more spectacular!

They operate cash only and the service feels like home, the sweetest folks you'll ever meet!
This place does get pretty busy and I think the space is reasonable but prepare to possibly share a table with someone (which in courtesy they ask upon seating you with a stranger if that's okay with you and your party) which I thought was nice and considerate to maximize the space.

I also got a warm soy to drink and thought that it was a perfect finish after the flavorful bowl.
Kevin and I would definitely come back when in town!

Homey and hearty meal. Food was delicious and authentic. Run by a family who can speak multiple languages which is nice. The broth isn't as rich as pho, but the duck is so tender. It's not something I see offered in the bay and I think it's worth a try.

Tip: If you don't like your noodles soggy from the broth, you can have the broth on the side.

The city has so many hole in the wall spots that they're hard to discover. But once you discover this place you'll never wanna go to another noodle place. Their menu says soup for all items but they all come with the option to have them dry. But no matter how you order the food is so good.

My companion asked what I was craving and with it being a rainy day, soup was on my mind. He took us to Thai Nghiep Ky Mi Gia as he'd come here as a teen.

The restaurant is no-frills and gives a neighborhood Asian spot vibe to it. Inside, Asian decor plasters the walls, local families and couples dining in, and a quiet ambiance to it aside from occasional overheard conversations. I didn't interact with the staff much as my companion did that for us. Though the service was efficient in getting our order placed and food out, it just took a while for us to pay.

Being it my first time, I wasn't sure what to get. I ordered a Nghiep Ky Wonton Ho Fun Soup while my companion had the Nghiep Ky Won Ton Egg Noodle Soup. I will say the portion and amount of protein they put is great; I could only eat half. The clear broth was warm and soothing while the quality of the proteins was decent but not flavorful. Luckily the sides and condiments helped add flavor. The noodles were plentiful, soft, and slippery but I preferred the texture and taste of my companions.

Sunset district has plenty of Asian eateries, for those looking for comforting soup and noodles Thai Nghiep Ky Mi Gia is affordable and will fill your belly. There's metered street parking around since they're off Noriega Street.
