    About the Business

Since 1985 the fish store has delivered the freshest local seafood available. Since 2009 the current owners, Peter and Colleen have embraced that philosophy and taken it even further. We are proud to say we take the sustainability of our oceans seriously, and from locally grown Shellfish to wild West Coast Salmon or Halibut our entire store is endorsed as 'Ocean Wise' through the Vancouver Aquarium. In 2010 we said 'why have all this wonderful seafood here at our fingertips, and not cook it' And so our menu was born: large flour tortillas filled with fresh sushi rice, seafood and sauces; fish tacos with house made smoked tomato salsa and a variety of local fish; local oysters on the half shell; live crab steamed to order; curried mussels; house smoked fish, all ocean wise, all sustainable. In December 2011 we installed a dedicated Gluten Free fryer, and now offer a GF menu, including GF fish and chips.…

Since this area is known for Halibut, I really wanted to try a seafood spot in Victoria. I ended up going to the fish store, which is situated on a boardwalk full of dock houses and a marina overlooking the bay. They give you a buzzer that'll let you know when your order is ready.

We ordered the fish and chips, halibut and fried oyster tacos, discovery island scallops steamed with garlic butter, and a fish sandwich. The tacos weren't bad but I felt like they dare not filling enough. The scallops look like a lot but they are pretty small. The fish and chips however is really good, and what they're known for. The skin had a light and crispy batter, and the fish was very flaky and tender. Don't forget to add malt and vinegar, and dip into their amazing tartar sauce. The coleslaw was vinegary and acidic, different than the coleslaw that I'm used to.

Ordered Fish and Chips.. 1st time at this location.

Fish was great, but the double fried French fries were awful. Greasy and clumped together. Might be time to change the grease. The cole slaw had zero taste/flavor and needed more dressing.

Great location on the pier but sadly food didn't impress. Quite honestly overpriced as well.

It's sad to say, but today's visit to The Fish Store was a far cry from what I experienced last time we were here (13 years ago). I honestly was not impressed.

To start with the guy taking our order was impatient and full of negative snark... totally condescending. After paying $100 for 3 orders of fish & chips, I expected the same quality as last time.

The one good thing I can say is that the halibut I ordered was bright white and fresh, but somehow they managed to overcook the fish, and undercook the outer coating. The outside was also greasy, and really not crispy at all -- so likely oil that wasn't hot enough, which took longer to brown, and the fish got a little rubbery.

The pieces of fish were placed on top of the chips, which then dropped grease down onto them, making half of the fries a little soggy. The majority of the fries were also very small.

Last time I said to go here instead of the place next door, but now I'm not so sure... I may just give the place next door a try this week.

We visited The Fish Store while exploring Fisherman's Wharf, and had a great experience! The restaurant wasn't very busy on a Thursday evening, since it was nearing closing time. We ordered a half dozen Superior Oysters with Cucumber-Jalapeño Mignonette and Prawn Tails at the window, and were given a buzzer. They had a nice patio right on the water, and we were able to snag a picnic table right away. The view from our table was so nice, and the ambiance was excellent. Our food took about 15-20 minutes to come out.

The Superior Oysters were incredibly fresh and tasty. My boyfriend and I were both obsessed with the Cucumber-Jalapeño Mignonette, which I've never seen anywhere else. It had a great flavor and the perfect spice level! The Prawn Tails were also delicious, and came with a piece of bread, which was perfect to dip in the garlicky sauce/seasoning. Overall, we really liked The Fish Store!

Seriously some of the best oysters I've ever had! The Superior Oysters were so fresh and flavorful with the perfect texture. The sauces are also incredible and pair extremely! I also tried the Cod, Halibut, and Salmon Fish & Chips but I've had better. The quality of the fish is great but the fry method could be a bit better. Overall a quality spot that will have me dreaming about oysters!

They are located right on Fisherman's Wharf. There is an other fish and chips place there, but we were recommended to try here. They have a few different options for fish type, which is good unless you are unsure or indecisive! Each of the types we tried were really good.

The seafood stew is excellent. We wish they gave more bread to soak up the thin, but robust and complex broth.

The salmon chowder is without peer.

You can't take your beer beyond their premises, which was a struggle, as all the tables were filled.

The wooden spoons were very unrealistic as they were so shallow, scooping either the chowder or the broth fm the stew was frustrating.

Seafood stew - really delicious Salmon chowder which we loved

While wandering the Fisherman's Wharf, we came to a decision between two different fish restaurants, and frankly I don't think there is an incorrect decision.

Despite the long line, our order was prepared efficiently. The fish and chip was pretty good - crispy and not too salty. But the real highlight of the meal was the salmon chowder. It was ridiculously decadent and flavorful with large chunks of salmon.

Seating is very limited, so if you're traveling in a group I'd suggest reserving a table while ordering.

Very good fish n chips! We sprung for the halibut 2 piece, came with fries and coke slaw. Very very good! In our top 5 best fish & chips. We waited about 30 mins for tue food to be ready, worth the wait! Even got a table just before the food came out! Very limited seating. They have about 4 tables and some bar seating along the back and front side of the boat.

The warf is great, nice breeze and cute private house boats too can walk around the dock and see them. We added this to our list of places to visit the next time we go to Victoria!

Excellent fish. I had the cod. It's crispy and not greasy. Personal preference for coleslaw to be more creamy, but I ate it anyway.
Bit of a wait but worth it. Servers are very nice
