As first-time homebuyers, my partner and I started the high stakes journey of finding our forever home. It took us about 3-4 months of lurking Redfin to familiarize ourselves with the crazy Bay Area real estate landscape before we started extensively researching realtors in the East Bay. We narrowed our search down to a top five, and when we were ready to get serious about bidding on homes, started interviewing realtors with tons of positive reviews from Yelp, Zillow, and Reddit. We did our due dilligence to ensure who we picked was the best of the best.

Katie Kochounian is a phenomenal agent who guided us through a very accelerated process, as we suddenly had to move from SF to Oakland earlier this year. In addition to sourcing properties, she was an expert at handling timing and negotiation to close, and helped us even after closing with finding vendors and handling inspection-related issues. In buying a condo recently, Graeme Parrinello at the Gunderman Group was exceptional at helping me prepare thoroughly, being patient with my ADHD, and then helping me act quickly when that was what we needed! A really perceptive listener -- always asking good questions -- and a great partner in helping me find something special. I cannot imagine buying without him!

I have to wonder, did a lot of people on here get well less than they could have, but of course they don't know so they think their sale was a success? After David Gunderman predicted we would get $800,000 less than we did, one has to wonder! Maybe had we listed at $1 million we would have gotten $1.2 and been told it was a great success? It would be $200k over asking, after all! How would we have known it was worth so much more without doing our own research? We got $1.85 million for a house that Gunderman said might go for $1.2 if we were 'lucky,' and should he listed around $1 million, so I still would encourage anyone thinking if there is any chance that your house is being undervalued get several quotes and really learn what your house is worth. This is the most essential thing, you cannot trust any given 'expert' to know this for you. Most realtors suggested we would get $1.6 million to $1.8, a few said $1.8 to close to $2 million if we did the right value added work, and those were the folks that were right. For most of us our house is our most essential fundamental family savings in large part, so don't let yourself be lowballed! I would also say this advice that it's all to be spent on cosmetics is dubious to me, build quality improvements and some people will see that is what you have done.

We were VERY happy with the Gunderman group. We worked closely with Rachel Saunders, but everyone on the team was wonderful. They were professional, communicative, supportive and their experience showed. We got more than asking, the services proved to be value-added across the board. We would (and have) recommended them to our friends. We are grateful to have found them and to have them on our team!

This was our 4th house transaction. We worked with Graeme to purchase our house before and now on the sale of this house. By far Graeme is the best realtor we partnered with and as long as we still in the Bay we won't use another agent. He definitely put your interest above anything else. When I first reached out to him about the sale of this house, it was on a market with low inventory and I was receiving calls all the time from agents trying to fish a house to sell. Instead of jumping in the opportunity Graeme did a market analysis and prepared us for what it would look like to go on the market at that time. It was amazing to know what to expect and we decided to wait. After a couple of months, due to family reasons we decided to sell. Because of the market and the perspective of losing money we decided to try one of this "local experts" discounted price offered by open door platform. What a mistake. It was the worst experience ever. We came back to Graeme and the only regret we had was not going with him since the beginning as we should have. It is hard to find someone that really puts you first and that you can trust like him. We were in contract in 4 days after sitting on the market with the previous team. Graeme and his team knowledge and strategy definitely paid off.
