The Halal Guys

Arrived on a Tuesday at 12pm. Wait was about 2-5 minutes and the service was quick. Bring cash as this place, similar to most, takes cash only. The beef gyro is preferred over the chicken and don't forget the red sauce if you're a spicy consumer.

I can see the appeal for this spot. If I worked here in nyc, I'd go here often for a cheaper quality meal

What good way to get rid of your hunger than stay in the line to get this halal food? So good! The regular chicken platter cost me $11! So expensive! I cannot believe this! Other places have it cheaper than this! But I guess because it is Halal Guys so it is the famous halal truck of all halal trucks in the city!This place is very touristy and have long lines. I did not know that this place has carts on both ends of the streets. If the line is too long in this cart on this street then you go to the other block to line up. So it saves you time. That's what I did. The line is shorter on the other block so that's why I lined up there.

I was lining up and wanted to leave since the line still had a lot of people. I was kind of bored waiting in line. I also started to take pictures of everything. When it was my turn I told the guy who was cooking the halal meat to give me a regular chicken. He asked me again what meat I want and I said chicken. I was like oh wow I have to repeat myself again. I was worried they didn't give me enough rice so I was wishing in my head that they give me more rice and looked away embarrassed to death that I needed that much rice to save my hunger. I saw them put a lot of lettuce and some tomatoes along with yellow rice and shredded chicken meat into the round aluminum container. It was then covered with a white round construction top to pack up the platter. He then put the container into the brand name bag with the halal guys on it. They must be that famous to have a bag named after them. Instead of asking me if I want white and hot sauce on my food, they have packets of white sauce and red sauce. They gave me 2 packets of white sauces and 1 mini hot sauce. Cannot believe the hot sauce is that much smaller than the white sauce! They also have a bagged utensils so you know they are very clean and no germs can touch or contaminate the utensils!!

After I got the food from a long wait in the line, I had to bring it back home to eat it. It was still warm when I got back so that was good. I opened the top and saw that it was plenty of food so they were very kind! I saw the white sauce packet and the calories were a lot! 330 calories in each packet! I only used one and the sauce was good on the food. Without the sauce the chicken would be dry and kind of bland. The food was very delicious and not greasy at all! Not much oil and seasoning and was very much fresh and bit on the bland side which makes it very healthy since it is not laden with so much oil and seasoning. The ice berg lettuce was very green and fresh along with the chopped onions making it tasty! Rice was cooked right and not soft or too hard! Love the platter and will get more!

Last weekend, I visited Halal Guys, the original food truck near Central Park. While it's a popular spot, I found it to be a bit overhyped.

I tried the falafel over rice, and unfortunately, the meal felt too dry without enough sauces. The flavors were okay, but nothing extraordinary. Given all the hype surrounding this place, I expected more.

Perhaps Halal Guys was better in the past, but during my visit, it didn't live up to its reputation. It was a decent meal, but not something I'd go out of my way for.

What else can I say about Halal Guys that has not been said?! Deliciously filling cheap eats. The hubby and I shared a platter after a day of drinking and we were good. I can't remember how much it was, but I think it was like $13 or less for a plate of food. And I like how I can add as much white or hot sauce as I want. I do love my food spicy. Combo for me is the way to go since I can have both chicken and beef. I'm not much of a rice person and the hubs is not much of a lettuce person, so it was divide and conquer. We killed that platter.

The original Halal Guys near Rockefeller Center. Make sure you go to the correct one as a lot of food stands mimic the same color, font, and theme of Halal Guys. If you see a line, that is the correct one. They open late and it is cheaper than the restaurant, but taste is the same.

Wait for about 30 minutes on a Wednesday during lunch time (got in line around 12:35 PM and had my food in hand by just after 1:05 PM). While waited in line, seems a lot of food delivery folks from Whizz service came by to pick up delivery orders.

The food was good, tasty, reasonable affordable (at least less expensive than in California). However, I'm not sure I'd wait in a line to try this OG cart again. Literally tastes the same as physical store fronts, so the only difference is the experience waiting in line.

Halal guys is the real deal . Went to this location around 1130 for lunch. Plenty of seating .Wait was about 7-10 min . Food is excellent. Got the combo with all the veggies . 9 dollars is a great deal. Lamb is so good and flavorful . Rice was perfect . Nice and soft and airy . I had the local franchise many times . And this location is a lot better. But I'll still be supporting my local stores

HITS! No matter the time of day- you'll want to come here. But, there will always be a line. Lamb and Gyro so delicious - definitely need to try in NYC. GET THE WHITE SAUCE!

I've been to this location a few times. And I've always loved it. But The last time was in 2021. Maybe because it was soon after Covid and everything was prepared ahead of time. The food was cold and lacked flavor. Last night I thought I'd give it another try. And it did not disappoint. Long line like always, but food was hot, fresh and service was fast. Halal guys u have redeemed yourselves! I'll definitely come back in the future.

Them guys cooking. The food was lick the fork good. Rice tender. Perfect balance of meat n rice. white sauce good. Hotsauce a bit spicy but good spice notes.
I almost wanted to grab a platter to bring home on plane. You gotta give it a try.
