I purchased a dishwasher from Home Depot on October 12, 2016. They sent their installation team out on November 18, 2016 - in fairness the wait was my decision not theirs. The two young men were in such a hurry one of them shocked himself and burned holes in my floor. They ended up taking my old dishwasher away but "couldn't wait" to install the new one so I told them to take it back with them. Oh and I had to pay an electrician $125.00 out of pocket because their install teams don't have the smarts or training to direct-wire an appliance and said they wouldn't come back to install the dishwasher unless I installed a wall outlet .

I finally managed to get approval to repair the floor but am still waiting for the check and I don't have any dishwasher yet because the installation company couldn't be proactive to check the condition until the morning of the day it was re-scheduled to be installed and only discovered then that it was damaged. That was this past Friday, December 16, 2016. I spoke with Home Depot Customer Care today and they still don't know when I will have the new appliance installed.

It turns out if you buy an appliance from Home Depot you are stuck with their delivery and installation subcontractor (at least for the delivery) because the manufacturer delivers the appliance directly to them. I would have made arrangements for a third-party installation team except for the fact that Home Depot advised me that I would have only 48-hours from the time of delivery to verify that everything was OK with the new appliance and given the ridiculous half-day time-windows the delivery company gives you I wasn't sure about being able to coordinate with someone else.

My biggest gripe though is that Home Depot personnel have consistently refused to take responsibility to fix the problem and I've had to deal with their subcontractors, the store managers and the insurance company myself. In fact, the Customer Care rep who was assigned to my case told me outright that she had "no control over the delivery or insurance company" and couldn't interfere to expedite my claim because it might "compromise" the settlement. Also, though I've been very careful to make sure to keep everyone in the loop with my emails it hasn't seemed to make any difference because no one seems to read them. The Customer Care person with whom I spoke today asked me if the damaged appliance was still at my house.

Bottom line - unless you want to wait forever, be totally frustrated, and deal with incompetent people all the way through the process don't buy an appliance from Home Depot. Any cost savings over a smaller, local appliance store just isn't worth it!

Duplicate review to try to connect my pictures...
Yeah, it worked! But only 4 pics? And two of them a duplicate?

I'm confused about what people expect from HD?
Or are my expectations too low?
This is a DIY company, I do NOT expect service.
If/when I want service, I would go to Ace, Orchard Supply, or Paganos in Alameda and would be willing to pay for the service.

Anyways, another review that I can NOT get my pictures to link?!?!

Quality/Quantity - Good quality at very reasonable prices.
See tip, if Walmart sells the same or similar item, it is usually cheaper there, when it's in stock...

      Atmosphere -
Giant home improvement warehouse with the best prices.
Self-service. They usually have everything I need when I need it.
Plenty of parking. I park far and walk, to minimize the stress from poor drivers and flat tires from nails and screws on the floor.
Open 7 days a week, see Yelp or their website for specific hours.

      Service - GREAT return policies!!
      Self-service, so GREAT service, LOL.
Their online ordering and pick up is 5 stars, especially for the locations that have self service lockers.

      Price - Great reasonable prices.
Overall, best prices for home improvement, just know what you want and need.

Owner Comment - Congrats on your success since 1978 now with 2335+ (since 2024) locations and growing. Ranked #5 (in 2020) on the Fortune 500.

I recently visited the Home Depot in San Leandro, and I am disappointed with the service I received. I was looking for a specific lamp, and an employee informed me that it was available but stored in the boxes above. He asked me to come back in an hour. When I returned, I was told that the lamp was not available.

I am frustrated because I was instructed to return for something that wasn't there. This experience was inconvenient and a waste of my time. I hope Home Depot can improve its communication and service to prevent similar issues in the future.

I have fond childhood memories of going to Home Depot with my dad and every person that worked there knew what they were talking about and knew how to assist you. Now? As many have mentioned it is hard to find someone to assist you and even harder to find someone that actually has experience in - painting, construction, plumbing and so forth.

9/10 times when you ask for assistance the staff are not knowledgeable in their departments.

Looked on their website for an item. It said that they had 22 in stock. Went into the store asked 3 staff members to assist me in locating it - they found the aisle and the bay but the item was not there.

1st staff members response - you can only order it online

2nd staff members response - we do not have them

3rd staff members response - she found another staff member - Ralph - who went above and beyond to assist me.

Yes the 22 items of the product were not in their location. They were in a box in the next bay. Ralph got a ladder and pulled them down for me - took 5 minutes of his time.

Everyone was nice - but Ralph actually knew where to look and actually assisted. Find Ralph and you will get the help you need.

A good parking spot can be kinda hard to find but it is achievable

I was surprised to see so many food vendors selling food outside of their car I was tempted to buy something but I didn't

      Customer service here is shotty
I asked for directions to get a specific item and I was given the wrong directions

      Finally found what I needed
I went to pay and guess what ....NO APPLE PAY ugh
I had to get out of line and get cash and go back

      Cashier was nice though
      Prices are reasonable

      1) You walk in & the security guard has his head down & is on his phone...when we went in & still when we came out.
      2) The parking lot is filthy & I'm not sure if HD is responsible for cleaning up or if it's the center's responsibility...either way, hire more people to keep the parking lot clean.
      3) There's never anyone who can help you. But please, read on...

      BIG HACK!! Thank me later.
Go to the Home Depot website on your phone, search for the item & there you'll know what aisle to find your item in & even if they have it or not. Because otherwise, you'll never find what you're looking for.

The store's clerks are friendly, but whenever you need help and ask for some who know what they are talking about, it's going to be tough. It takes half an hour to find someone and another half an hour to help you. If there is only a kiosk that I can type up what I am looking for and where it is at, then I dont need to wait.

I went to this location yesterday to return an online order. The receipt was on my phone with a barcode that said "use for returns". The cashier was unsure so she called the lead cashier to help. The lead cashier woman did not know how to use the register. She told me I could only get $100 in store credit.

I asked her to scan the receipt, but she kept pushing "no receipt return". That was never going to work.

I left and went to the one closer to my house in east oakland. The cashier returned my item no problem and didn't even need my card for the refund. I was in and out in less than one minute.

The lead cashier needs further training and learn to be less confrontational with customers. I remained calm, but some customers may not and I wouldn't blame them. Learn some customer service.

5 stars! I am not sure what everyone else is thinking when reviewing this place but out of the hundreds and hundreds of trips here, it a solid FIVE stars. They have what I need, more of it, and for less money!
Yasmin was the customer service hero on Saturday 4/22! There was also a customer who was part of the legendary tool acquisition named Maxwell! I wont get into the finer details of what we all went through to get a gas powered leaf blower out of a locked cage that no store personnel had the combination too! 30 minutes of extraordinary effort by a complete stranger (Maxwell, who I found was a really nice guy) worked his buttocks off to get me that tool. Maxwell was there to buy a tool to cut down a tree with an 18" trunk. I advised the Ryobi gas powered unit 18" blade on the locked shelf just above mine. For our massive hassle, we both received a $25 discount!!! Patience was paramount here. It took all of 30 minutes but I got my tool, made a friend, overcame some doo do and came out happy! Yasmin sealed the deal. Thank you!

Unbelievably slow, inefficient, and rude staff. There is a giant line to return anything and one person or no one working. I overhead one associate threatening to beat up a customer. The staff is un empathetic and not helpful. The worst Home Depot I have ever been to.

I usually don't shop at any Home Depot stores because it's really hard to receive help from Staff, whenever I shop at any of these stores, I find another costumer to help me out, if they have time. On my last night visit, I was very impressed, I received help from Joel, Sergio and, I am sorry, didn't asked for the cash register's name but she was very nice and professional. Joel and Sergio took the time to help me with my home improvement project.

Wish ALL Home Depot Staff had the same professionalism as these three people mentioned above.

Giving five stars to Joel, Sergio and Cash Register Lady, thank you
