A bar named after the most horrific practical joke you could do to anyone. Just check Urban Dictionary. The Deck is a good classic blue collar pub and has no pretence about being so. Friendly staff, stiff drinks and cheap prices. They also have a "Hot Nuts" machine, pool tables and live music. It is a bit out of the way on the gorge even so if you are looking for a causal spot to drink and snack, maybe catch some scaryoke or blues head on over, just do not Upper Deck the Upper Deck. And come for the HOT NUTS!!!

Over 45, still love to rock out, and party? Well, then The Loft is for you!
Came here recently on a Saturday night, there was a decent cover band, the place was busy ~ decent decor and down to earth vibe inside here.
Average selection of beers on tap, we did not order any food though so cannot comment on the food menu.
The crowd was mixed, but definitely, 45+ which is hard to find these days with hipsters and younger crowds dominating most places. The dance floor was packed ~ the mood in here was fun and upbeat and everyone was laughing and having a great time.
We ordered our drinks from the bartender when we entered ~ consequently, this appeared to anger the waitress working the floor. She did not attempt to serve us again, and pointedly ignored us for the rest of the evening~ so we had to get our drinks from the bar each round. The bartender was really nice despite being super busy~ which made up for the very cold reception from the floor server.
Pool table in the back, lots of seating, washrooms cleaner than most ~ an interesting evening and worth a peek inside if you are staying in the Gorge Road area.

Your typical neighborhood dive bar. While the live music can be entertaining depending on the given night, the crowd that frequents this place are a bunch of old whinos and beer bums. Not the sort of people you'd see drinking in a more respectable place around town.
It's also a mystery to me why these guys close as early as 10PM or maybe 11PM on the weekend if you're lucky. Seems to me that's when the party should be starting but I guess the locals are all liquored up by then with few others bothering to make the effort. All in all this isn't a bar on anyones radar and I personally stopped drinking in these kinds of establishments over a decade ago with good reason

Both the staff and the patrons make Upperdeck a crazy fun place to go. The bartender was attentive and no question or request seemed to be a bother even in the busiest of circumstances. We even played a small joke on him at the request of one of the servers, which he thought was a riot. The hubs looks kind of like Dave from the TV show Storage Wars so she talked him into saying "Yuuuupppppp" when he ordered his next beer. Karaoke and bands are scheduled regularly. We had a chance to chat with a KJ as well as one of the musicians that were playing that week and both approached us and were well traveled and made great conversation. Even though we live in the states, this would be a place we would frequent on every visit to see the fam.

Oh...they do serve food - looked good, but didn't have a chance to partake.

Surprisingly decent simple food with a lot of homemade goodness. I came here late one night with a friend on another friend's recommendation. We had some tasty and fresh chicken strips and some mediocre prawns, and he had a great burger (Canuck)

Homemade fries and cheap beer make this a nice watering hole. Don't expect anything fancy, and you will get a tasty meal for cheap with friendly staff.

Back again today to try their chicken burger. It was fresh and tasty.

I really like the fact that a lot of their stuff is homemade and will be back again to try their caesar salad.

Really rude and bad behavior by the bar tender. Ruined my mood for the night. Never coming back again.

It's a sad state of affairs when you go out for a Friday night beer with a friend in good spirits only to have it ruined by some red neck bartender who seems to make the liquor laws up as he goes along and refuses to serve you just because he discriminates who you are or what you look like, this was my experience at the upper deck on Friday night.
My friend and I decided to go in the upper deck for a game of pool and because its local, while my friend was setting up the table I went to the bar to order us both a drink, I asked for 2 pints of beer, the man who was not very friendly from the get go when I asked him what specials were on, tells me that he cannot serve me 2 pints because it's against the law, a bit gobsmacked by this I asked for 1 instead, he abruptly asks for 2 pieces of ID, fair enough, although I am 32 I do get asked, so I go to my friend to get my bag and ID and also ask her to come to the bar with me because I couldn't get her a beer. I head back to the bar with my ID and ask for a pint for myself, as he's checking my ID I simply ask if this is a new rule because I had never heard of it, having an English accent maybe he thinks he can swing this lie with me because I wouldn't know any different, he replies that it's the law in BC and he just enforces it. I tell him I have been to this bar a few times and I've never once been told that and never heard of that law in my whole life here, I can see he doesn't like the fact I've quizzed him on this make believe law so tells me if I don't like it to go to another bar and he's not going to serve me because he doesn't like my attitude, instead of getting mad I try to keep my cool telling him I was only asking a question and I was just asking him when this law come into play, he couldn't answer me and in turn abruptly told me to leave, I could see the waitress seemed a bit miffed as to what he was saying also, so we left and went next door to a much nicer bar. I thought I would try ordering 2 pints which I was served without question, when I asked this barman if this was legal he said yes of course. So my point is proven, there is no such law, this red neck barman clearly did not want to serve me or my friend and was very rude with me from the moment I walked to the bar.
Now the question remains, is this bar refusing to serve people judged on their sexuality or gender?? I think something needs to be done about this, what decade are we living in that people cannot get served judged on their sexuality or skin colour or their cultural background? This may not seem a big deal to most but it is most upsetting when all you want to do is go out for a drink with your buddy on a Friday night only to have it ruined by some red neck because they don't like who you are. I have never experienced anything like this in my time in Victoria but I will be making sure that people are aware of what kind of bar this is.
