I'm just a guy that used to need a good clean, hair cut and Doug at Olde Hat Hair shoppe is the one to help me out! Now I no longer have much hair but he's always willing to help me get my beast of a beard under control and if he can do that, he can give you the coiffure of your dreams!
Seriously, Doug, is a great human and great stylist and has been my go to for over a decade!
The shop has a super fun atmosphere and it seems like everyone loves being there. My cousin and sister in law also get their styling at the Old Hat so don't miss out!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Lisa M.Jubilee, Victoria, Canada01Apr 21, 2024
I've been going to Lindsay for over 5 years and wouldn't go anywhere else. She's very talented in cutting & texturizing fine hair so that it has lots of volume which I like. She thrives on creating custom cuts and color and loves experimenting with hair but also listens and caters to the clients individual needs. Highly recommend.

I was in the Old Hat Hair Shoppe for the second time yesterday and I feel insulted and taken advantage of - wow do they overcharge.
I went in for a 6 wk follow up cut (called and booked a quick, dry trim), which typically takes a stylist less than 5 minutes of actual cutting time. I'm a cancer survivor and only have a small amount of hair left after treatment, it's short and fine so there's only so much you can do with it.
I had washed it that am but wore a hat (it was cold out) so the stylist, Jordan shared it was important for it to be wet for the cut so I agreed but she did a quick shampoo which I didn't need and so I encouraged it to be quick, without conditioner etc. She cut it and blowdried it - the entire treatment was less than 20 minutes. Yet, I was charged a very high fee of $69 (not what I saw online or agreed to) plus tip, taxes so well over $100 for a simple dry cut - (only the back ends really needed to be cut anyway). Then I found out the product I had picked up was priced incorrectly so they charged me an extra 36 over the sticker price, and then added the tip percentage to the entire bill vs the cut fee - so an outrageous amount overall.
They don't show you the prices or discuss this upfront, the stylist and receptionist had no idea how to provide an itemized receipt, they finally emailed me one after I called several hours later sharing I hadn't received one yet - and when I saw what I was charged, I was offended and feel very disrespected.
I feel they went out of their way to upsell and overcharge. The salon is large, right on Pandora in a dynamite location and is beautifully decorated inside - so perhaps the overhead is high.
So be careful: as someone who's in business for themselves, I pride myself on transparency and fairness. This business model I feel is placing profit over long term relationships. I feel price gouged and it was done in a very disrespectful and almost sneaky manner.
I won't be back.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Thomas W.Victoria, Canada01Oct 6, 2020

Piper is awesome!! My friend took me to the Old Hat about a year ago, and I'm hooked. She's great at tailoring the haircut to fit the shape of your head - something I find takes most barbers many cuts to figure out.
I've moved to Vancouver, but still make time to go see Piper each time I'm back home to Victoria. She's very friendly and will probably make you smile or laugh at some point during your haircut. Since starting my haircuts with Piper, my brother and best friend have both switched to her as well.
Complimentary coffee, water and tea are available if you show up early too. Great place that I'd highly recommend!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - H M.Kelowna, Canada01Mar 3, 2020

This salon is the best in the city. The whole team cares about really listening to what you want and suggesting styles. They are so creative, fun and professional. I recommend everyone who stops me in the street to compliment my hair! They are a small business with a big heart!

Piper, a young red haired whiz who was trained in London, does a fantastic job cutting and coloring my hair and has for years. She has a number of very talented stylists in this shop, but my preference has long been for Piper. Also she is lots of fun. I found her through a girlfriend who saw a woman with a great haircut on the street and asked her who cut it. It was Piper, and thus began the saga. This salon is beautiful, fun, and so very comfortable. A few old hats, a piano, a large British flag, and lots of neat other stuff. Very British. And very fun!! And you come out looking gorgeous.
