while it is always hard to get reservations here, lunch is an easier time to walk in. the ambiance is beautiful and unlike any other restaurant. the service is attentive and well organized, having all the pasta dishes get served at once.
to start, you get complimentary sesame bread which comes with butter and was good quality. the italian and american hams with zeppole is a great appetizer and it comes with a sweet pineapple sauce that combines the sweet and savory flavors of the dish as a whole. the cucumbers new yorkese dish is another vibrant appetizer if you're into salads. the tortellini pomodoro is an outstanding dish. with the tortellini's soft texture, the smooth cheese filling inside it pairs perfectly with the pomodoro sauce sitting underneath. the porchetta hero was the specialty sandwich at the time. it was packed with a ton of flavor and was a good sized portion. if you're still hungry for dessert, the affogato is a good option. the top layer had the texture of a granita, the middle was carmel-like, and the bottom was filled with cream. they also give complimentary italian ices and cookies to finish your meal.
overall, an excellent experience!Helpful 2Thanks 2Love this 1Oh no 0 - Sep 11, 2024
This might be some of the best pasta I've had in nyc! This place has been on my list for a long time so when my friend had a random weekday lunch reservation, I did not pass it up, and I'm glad I didn't!!
1. The pasta texture was an actual al dente and had a chewiness to it that only fresh pasta has.
2. Both sauces were really good!! Got the tortellini and the tomato sauce was creamy. Also got the Jamaican beef ragu which was so unique!! The blend of Jamaican spices paired well with the sauce, and despite what they said I didn't really find it spicy.
The only con was that the servers really rushed us even though it was not busy and we felt like we were treated a little rudely because we only ordered the 2 pastas and no drinks/apps/dessert.
Still recommend for the pasta!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Aug 31, 2024
I am an Italian food fiend so Torrisi has been on the top of my hit list for a while. When my sister came to town recently I was able to snag a weekday lunch resy, and WOW!!! Actually am blown away in all categories...
We sat in the main dining area, and originally our table was directly in the sun, but they were easily able to move us to a table that was less blinding. The space inside is also beautiful- so visually stunning w pops of green against an industrial brick background! The bar in particular is beautiful with the mirrored menu. There is also an open kitchen, which is fun to watch!
The main event: the food! First off, their complementary bread and butter is amazing! The bread is this delicious seeded sourdough, and paired perfectly with the creamy, salty, and herby butter.
During lunch service Torrisi has a changing sandwich special, which we ordered as an appetizer. That day it was a Turkey sandwich, which sounds like the most basic boring thing but ended up being my favorite bite of the meal. The sandwich came on the same seeded sourdough, and had soft, tender turkey with delicious gravy. There was also this herby mix that enhanced the flavor and really made this sandwich the best thing I ate. I am a pasta lover through-and-through but this sandwich was something else.
For mains we got the Jamaican Beef Cavatelli and the Tortellini Pomodoro. The Cavatelli had a kick from the spices and the pasta itself had a good bite. I did think the ragu was a tad salty. The Tortellini was perfection- creamy and pillowy with the perfect tomato sauce.
We also ordered the only dessert offered for lunch: the Affogato, which was served in a huge martini glass and looked like a work of art. It also was the perfect refreshing finish. This was my sister's favorite bite! Torrisi also follows in the MFG way of serving complementary desserts in addition to whatever you order. This consisted of a sorbet duo (green apple and lemon) which was served on a cute plate with icons of the flavors and very refreshing, and cookies (chocolate and lemon) which were fine.
Overall Torrisi is definitely a gem! I had the best time dining here, from the impeccable service to the spectacular food. I will say that despite all the hype for the pastas, the sandwich stole the show for me! I would 100% come back, and will return soon for dinner service!Helpful 1Thanks 1Love this 1Oh no 0 - Sep 12, 2024
Believe the hype this place is amazing. I had been wanting to go here for a long time and finally was able to experience it. The service was incredible and the Manager, Chris, greeted me personally and treated me like I was the only one in the restaurant (It was a packed house right before Labor Day). On to the food. I got the Cavatelli Jamaican Beef Ragu 8.5/10, Italian Hams 8/10, Cucumbers 8/10 (idk what they season them with but they are really good), and I finished off with the Affogato 7/10. I wish I got the Almond Cheesecake instead but I will definitely try it again next time. Can't wait to go back!

All around great experience. All the pastas are delicious and can't go wrong with any of the wines. Only issue is just getting a rez or spot at the bar.

I would saw the pasta is five stars so stick with that and you'll have a great time.
I sprung on my sister that I was coming to NYC pretty close to my trip, so it wasn't enough time to try to get reservations. Therefore, she had me get in line at 4:45 p.m. on a Monday to try to get bar seating for the second seating (which she guessed would be around 6/6:30 p.m.). When I got there, there was about 8 people in front of me. The bar looked to seat about 12 and some of the people were doing what I did and asking for the second seating, so if we really wanted we could have been seated right after 5 p.m. However, I asked for the second seating since my sister wasn't there yet and they told me I'd get a text close to when our seats would be ready, which would be 6:45 p.m./7 p.m.
We walked around the area after that until 7 p.m. when I got a text saying our seats were close to ready and we had 10 minutes to respond. I responded immediately saying we were coming.
We were then seated about 7:15 p.m.
They have a good combination of servers/bar backs/bartenders working the bar so my water glass was never empty. Here is what we got and what I thought:
Cucumbers New Yorkese - it's slightly insane to me that this dish is $20, but it was very good. This acclimated me to New York prices. If you like pickled cucumbers, this is a great dish to try.
Tortellini Pomodoro - this was delicious. They do pasta really well and I don't think you can go wrong with any pasta dish.
Ravioli with Prawns and Saffron - again, amazing. I love their pasta and the ravioli really highlighted how well they make it. I would eat this every day.
Duck Alla Mulberry - this one was ok, but not great. If you've had Peking duck then you know how juicy duck can be. Some of the duck was slightly dry and for $56 I'd expect perfection. Next time I'd skip.
Their drinks are superb. I got a espresso martini and a dirty martini. I love that their dirty martini is made with vodka already, which is how I prefer it. I would highly recommend both drinks.
They also give you complimentary bread, which was delicious. It was definitely needed with how strong the drinks are.
This place is beautiful. It's a great spot for a girls dinner or date night if you can get reservations. Just stick to the pasta and you'll love it.Helpful 2Thanks 1Love this 5Oh no 1 - Sep 5, 2024
Went for lunch during the week, got there at 11:30 right when they opened up. They had plenty of tables available and were able to sit us without reservations (we were people + a stroller). Service is great, as expected for a high end restaurant. Ambiance very chic and nice. Food was a big highlight. The entire meal was delicious, but the highlight is the tortellini. We also had drinks, which were great as well. I'd say the food is amazing but I don't think is worth a month of wait to try or all the pain to be able to get a reservation during prime time.

I finally got off the waitlist for a Saturday lunch, and I'm so so happy I got to try this place! I am not usually impressed by Italian restaurants, but this place is it. First off, the inside is beautiful. I love the green; it feels super polished and classy.
I purposely came here for lunch because I wanted to try one of their sandwich specials, so I was a little disappointed to find that their sandwich special wasn't the one that I wanted to try. The day that I went, it was the porchetta sandwich. Our waitress said it had mustard in it, which made me hesitant because I'm not the biggest mustard fan. However, we decided to get it because she said it was really good. And we're so glad we did because this sandwich was amazing! The pork was so juicy, the bread was perfection, and the mustard gave it a nice little kick. This is a very messy sandwich though so be warned! We also got the cavatelli with Jamaican beef ragu. We were told that this was spicy, but it wasn't bad at all! It was a nice twist on a classic dish.
We were so full that we didn't get dessert, but they gave us complimentary sorbet at the end and a tray of desserts to celebrate our anniversary! I wasn't expecting it at all, so this was such a nice surprise. All the desserts tasted amazing, but I love a good rainbow cookie. This place was so good that I immediately wanted to go back to try more dishes or even get that porchetta sandwich again if I'm lucky enough to get off the waitlist.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jul 30, 2024
Really really really loved Torrisi. So much so that we are trying to go back 5 days after dining there this weekend. We have the rest of the menu we want to try!
Cavatelli with Jamaican Ragu was beyond.
Beautiful cook on the lamb.
Loved the chopped liver & Manischewitz.
We had a juicy Brunello di Montalcino (thanks somm!)
Desserts were charming and special.
Beautiful space. Such a fun dinner. Hope our waitlist spot opens up. *fingers crossed*Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jul 14, 20241 check-in
This is a rising NYC restaurant that I was surprised I almost failed to secure my one and only opportunity for a reservation here for my recent NYC trip. Reservations go poof about 10 seconds after they release, but I was able to grab a Saturday lunch spot without much issue on Resy exactly 30 days ahead. This is a sister restaurant to Carbone, also by the Major Food Group. Carbone is still way harder to dine since their reservations, even with $50/person deposit, still get booked faster than this place.
The most memorable thing here is not the pasta, but the cucumbers hehe. Yes, $20 cucumbers, and my friends joke about it, but it was so refreshing and a bit tangy to whet the appetite.
My friend that was accompanying my party of 2 reservation last minute couldn't make it, but the hostess graciously seated me solo in still the tables in a 2-top without hesitation. Regardless I wanted to try what I wanted to try so I ordered almost 2 people worth of dishes and break my wallet accordingly. I started with the cucumbers New Yorkese and got 2 pasta dishes - the 2 popular ones - tortellini pomodoro and Cavatelli with Jamaican beef ragu.
The cucumbers New Yorkese, as I hyped up already, is hands down an excellent starter and must be ordered. Especially if you over order food since this increases your appetite and cuts down the heaviness of most of the dishes. The dill and cilantro here further enhance this dish.
The tortellini pomodoro is their signature here but is the "worst" dish that I got out of the 3. It was cooked a bit on the softer side and aside from the fresh tomato sauce, nothing really stood out nor was it that flavorful. The cavatelli is quite special and tastes a bit like Jamaican oxtail stew but with ground beef patty instead. It does have a spicy kick but the waiter warned that it was "really spicy" but it was just a bit heavy with a spice kick only. The pasta is cooked perfectly al dente!
At the end, they still gave 2 people's worth of desserts. I got to try the Meyer Lemon and green apple Italian ice, as well as an almond-tasting pastry that I remember having (or some variation of) at Carbone that was really delicious.
Service is excellent and is a bit above what I expect for a one Michelin star. They know how to serve and when to hold off the dishes as I take my time eating. They were excellent in giving wine suggestions that were not simply the most expensive options, suggesting a range that is really reasonable. I ended up shelling out about $125 for myself but then this is enough for 2 people for a light meal as I was fairly stuffed at the end.
Despite the miss of the signature dish, this is still a 5 stars since the cucumbers and cavatelli were really really good and almost comparable to my favorite Italian restaurant in LA so far, Bestia.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
