U-Haul of Oakland

My neighborhood U-Haul. I understand how bad moving is, and how things can go south during a move, but I mostly rent trailers and other stuff. This place has been a model business in my experience. The folks have been incredibly helpful and informative. The trailers I have rented, about 8 in as many years, in good shape. The workers here have installed trailer hitches on our Camry and our Corolla. Work was done quickly and well. This location is my go to place for towing questions as well and the workers have always given me good advice. Over the years this one location has changed my opinion of U-Haul stores completely. My daughter's experience with U-Haul in Los Angeles was far worse and it is nice to be able to say that I feel confident with this store.

Horrible experience all the way around. Way too much upselling during the process, have to click through 30 screens just to check out. The check in process at the location was extremely overcomplicated - it's worse than any standard rental car company at the airport. Terrible "corporate policies" that basically ask you for your first born child to get the van. It's a car, get over it. The experience was so bad that will I go to great lengths to avoid Uhaul forever. Aside from it taking an hour to get the vehicle (even though I was the 4th person in line), there was only one person working, and when I finally got to the counter the associate was so rude I wanted to leave immediately. It's amazing the company is still in business with what I experienced.

I had a good experience renting from this location. Jesus was great. Pleasantly helping two different check out lines at the same time during a busy Friday afternoon. He was also very helpful and pleasant when I returned the vehicle (and I retrieve it early).

I had a really frustrating experience at your 5330 International Bl Oakland location on 07/02/24. When I arrived I was asked to move my car even though it was parked in a good spot and not blocking anything, they would not help me without moving my car. I was there to pick up a trailer, and everything was set through the app. The person helping me changed my settings and tried to sell me extra insurance. When I heard the number, I knew it was more than what was quoted. He said it was tax, but tax can't be 20%. I saw on the screen he had added additional coverage. When I asked him to remove it, he said it's just $8. It might be just $8 for him, but I didn't want it. Why insist? Then, I noticed a $7 safe trip fee. When I asked what it was, he said he didn't know. I asked him to remove that one also, but he said it was mandatory. I later learned it is actually not mandatory. Even though I had an adapter for the trailer lights, I forgot to bring it with me. They told me I couldn't leave without one. I could either go get mine or buy one inside. There were three adapter options. I picked the cheapest one, but he said that wouldn't work on my car and sold me the most expensive one for $16. The others would have worked fine too. I bought it, but when I got to my destination, I switched it with mine and returned the one they sold me at the drop-off location. This whole transaction at this Oakland location was painful, and I don't want to do business with that location again. I would like a refund for the unnecessary so-called mandatory safe trip fee also. Reported to Uhaul.

What the hell is going on at the Ubox located in Hayward CA? After a decade I get an email asking me if I want my property? Wtf? What property? I will keep calling Monica and she hasn't called back but sent another email. UHAUL management please call me back 3603618030.

Terrible service , I told the employees about a bad review how someone was overcharged and they said nah it wasn't true. So I proceed keep in mind i have pictures of Gad and miles from before and after I finished using. I had it for 2-3 hours and drove 10.5 miles. I put 2gallons of Gad in it and the mpg is 10mpg for a 15 foot uhaul. Somehow I was charged for 6-7 gallons of gas $40 ? Can't even put two and two together doesn't make sense

*Let me first of all say that U-Haul as a company is garbage and the experience and customer service is garbage. I originally ordered a Uhaul for Pleasanton because it was within walking distance. And Uhaul decided to change it to this location. I had to pay $60 for a ride to get there. Philip from the scheduling department is garbage.*

For this store though they did an excellent job. It was super quick the Uhaul. The manager Eric as well as the other employee that was there did an excellent job. So if you have to use Uhaul than use this one but try to just avoid Uhaul in general.

We love this location nearly as much as the one on 6th street. The guys who work here are super pleasant, clearly hard working and very straight forward. It gets busy on opening at 7 am and everyone is in a rush because let's face it if you are there you have stuff to do. But staff keep their cool (unlike the ridiculous Concord CA location ) and I am grateful that they made my tough day more pleasant.

Had no issues here. Called the night before to rent a truck and the earliest time they had available was at 1pm. Walked right in, small line and my truck was ready within 10 mins or so. Upon return I pulled in the return area and they checked me out within another 5 mins. Easy peasy.

Only negative thing is it's kinda in the ghetto

A good experience if you manage your expectations. The staff are friendly and helpful and the vehicles are clean, if somewhat worn. I made two reservations over the phone (with an office that was not located in Oakland) and *both* times they called me *day of* to tell me the specified vehicles were not available as promised. Both times the staff sincerely tried to solve my problems, both times successfully. But it was stressful, we were counting on those trucks to help us keep to a schedule. Bottom line: this is a good outfit. My biggest complaint is that I averaged 4.5 mpg - even though I wasn't carrying anything for all but 10 of the miles. That adds up when you're paying $1.69 per mile plus gas at $5 a gallon.

$1.29/mile between Oakland and central valley for about 2 days on the weekend. Great service. We got a smaller-sized truck from them yet it was able to carry a moderate-sized couch bed, a twin-sized bed, 2 nightstands, plenty of boxes, a long desk, a number of boxes, and other things. Wow.

Why can't more people be like the staff here? They're friendly, punctual, and get straight to business. Exactly what we need - no drama or fluff. Thank you U-Haul for your moving services.
