Urban Plates

Um, it's been a long time since I have received such good customer service. Having walked into Urban plates at Santana row 5 minutes before they officially opened, not only did Angel greet me good morning, but he was so friendly in answering any questions I had about the menu, which was whether you can leave off the goat cheese on the beet salad (you can!)

Thanks so much for the fabulous customer service! You definitely don't get this type of service at the other Urban Plates locations!

An update on this, the store owner did reach out to me and made sure my refund was processed. Which I did get all my money back. And the chef Luis, also sent me a message. I will say, they made me feel better and I appreciate both of them reaching out to me. No longer a one star because the service and the fact that they fixed this for me made me wanna give them at least a 4 star because the food is good when you catch them on a good day.

To everyone who recommended the Moroccan chicken braise- you all are geniuses. Food was amazing- wonderful blend of braised chicken and semi sweet pumpkin in a delicious sauce. Service was extraordinarily quick, even near the end of the day. Seating was plentiful, both indoors and out.

Added bonus- for some reason all the dishes were a few dollars cheaper than what they were listed as online. A happy surprise ‍

I've been a Plate Pass member for a few months l and go to Urban Plates often since I live walking distance from the restaurant. I've always had an decent experience, however, today's was not great. They recently raised their prices which is fine but for the amount of money I paid, I am disappointed--both with the quality and service. I ordered the steak plate to-go which is now $20.95.

1) Note: there were 2 parties after us in line. Both parties received their orders before ours. They were almost half way done before we got our order. We ordered at 1:35 pm got the order past 2:00 pm.

2) Four dry (nothing like the images) pieces of steak. 3 of the 4 were very small pieces (see image). Nothing compared to the previous times that I've ordered. The Mac n cheese was also very low.

3) My bf went to check on our order after 25 minutes of waiting. He stood next to the back kitchen area. One of the workers walked up to him, gave me a very rude look, and asked, "uhhhh, what are you doing here?" When we told him that we had been waiting for nearly 30 minutes and that the other parties already received their meals, he gave us an annoyed look and didn't say anything.

I haven't been to Urban plates in ages, last time was in San Diego. I typically order their main dishes and sides, but this time I wanted something else that is veggie based. I ordered their Beets Avocado Plant Based Bowl, it was filling enough for me though there wasn't that much in it. I liked the quinoa, beets and avocado. Nice addition of the pickled onions.

One of the items I've always liked from Urban Plates is their mango tart slice. It did not disappoint this time, not too sweet, mangoes were ripe and a tad bit crunchy which gave nice texture. I love the cream with the tart and the shell.

Overall, good experience considering I had this all delivered.

Healthy & hearty food choices ranging from entrees, bowls, sandwiches & salads to cakes & better fountain sodas. Casual yet pleasant environment. Order at the front counter to pay and the servers bring your food and will clear the table too. I had the grass fed steak salad, which had good quality beef perfectly cooked and medium rare. It's not the largest portion of beef but it's enough for lunch. The salad greens are perfectly dressed and seasoned. It comes with a grilled slice of sour dough bread which was on the burnt side but I ate it anyway. I had the diet cola and also tried the pineapple cream soda which was tasty.

As someone on a macro plan, finding a restaurant that offers detailed nutrition facts and healthy options is a game-changer. Urban Plates is a fantastic find! They offer grass-fed steak and cage-free chicken on their menu--something most places don't have.

Grilled Grass-Fed Steak - The steak was perfectly cooked and flavorful. The harissa lime cauliflower was a tangy and refreshing side that paired beautifully with the steak, almost like kimchi does with KBBQ. The rice pilaf was a great, healthy source of carbs to the meal.

The service was top-notch, and the staff was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. Urban Plates truly understands the importance of providing quality, nutritious meals. I'll definitely be back!

Great prices, choose 1 protein option and 2 sides! We came on a Friday evening and decided to order takeout with dining in. Everything was great but the wait time was longer than expected. It seemed like they prioritize dine in tables than takeout. There are tons of space indoor and outdoor seating.

I ordered - Garlic Shrimp W. Parmesan butter, Roasted Mushrooms W. Garlic Parmesan Butter, and Roasted Brussels Sprouts W. Balsamic Glaze.

Mushrooms - beautifully coated with garlic and not too overwhelming

Brussels sprouts - personally FAV. Soft, flavorful, and well done

Garlic shrimp - grilled, tender, and delicious!

The good:
I pre-ordered a full Hummingbird cake here for my grandma's 104th birthday. I love how there are real flowers on top and I love the nuts in this cake. The cake is a southern pineapple banana cake but for some reason tastes mostly like carrot cake. In fact, when I got it at a different Urban Plates location the worker told me it was carrot cake. The workers were super friendly and greeted me immediately when I came in.

The bad:
The cake is a little too sweet. It took me very long to find parking when I came on a Saturday afternoon.

The interesting:
This is a Southern California chain restaurant with a casual ambience and a wide menu that offers a lot of healthier options. They also sell cake slices.

If somebody told me earlier that chicken tastes great with pumpkin...I would be like - Bleh! No way! But that Morrocon braised chicken curry with pumpkin changed my perspective and tastebuds. Urban plates has mastered this flavorful dish and the rustic bread plus mashed potatoes combination is pretty insane. Chicken tortilla soup for $5 is a steal. And the Grilled chicken Caesar salad is so refreshing! Modern decor and great service. It's my go to place nowadays for quick yet healthy food. Plus pro tip - Buy that chilled iced white chocolate mocha from the Starbucks Nextdoor and take your meal to the next level! lol!
