Amazing! Not only was the sushi excellent (Trio Sushi Combo, Dynamite Rolls, and Chopped Scallop) but the service was amazing! My daughters wanted sushi and we saw this place on Yelp. Highest rating in the Steveston area. It was a bit of a walk from Garry Point Park but looked very promising. Sadly we didn't notice the time and when we arrived it was closed! It is open till 2pm for lunch and opens again at 5pm for supper. We showed up at 3:30. Obviously looking bummed, the waitress noticed and came out to confirm they were closed. We said thanks for letting us know and starting looking on Yelp for the nearest alternative (which was 2km away!). The waitress then came out and invited us in to order take out! What a class act! The price was right, the flavours exceptional (especially the scallops; the kids actually ate all the different types which was a first. They loved the dynamite rolls). The caring service put it over the top. If I could I would give Village Sushi Bar 10 stars!

Amazing sushi! Affordable and fresh. One of my favourite spots for sure. I recommend the salads, and to substitute with brown rice because it gives the sushi a nice yummy texture. I have been here maybe 4-5 times and it has never been very busy

Been for a couple of lunches at Village Sushi Bar. It's run by a Japanese couple, next door to Sanctuary Cafe. The inside is tiny with four window counter seats and three tables. Friendly service with excellent tea.
- Shimesaba sashimi ($12.50 for 5) - our favourite thing here. Saba's always fresh.
- Salmon sashimi ($12.50 for 5) - wild salmon had a good texture.
- Negitoro roll ($4.75) - favourite of the rolls.
- Umekyu roll ($4.00) - ume paste was okay.
- Inari ($2.00), tamago ($2.00), hotate ($3.75) and toro ($4.00) nigiri - excellent and fresh.
- Chopped scallop roll ($5.50) - one of the better quality chopped scallop rolls.
- Deluxe futomaki ($8.25) - liked the shiitake mushroom and BBQ eel.
Unassuming, hole in the wall sushi at VSB.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Feb 5, 2023
Checked out Village Sushi for a weekend lunch. Tiny, unassuming hole in the wall (8 seats total) run by a Japanese couple.
We shared a deluxe futomaki ($7.75), chopped scallop roll ($5.25), hotate nigiri ($3.75), tamago nigiri ($2.00), umekyu roll ($4.00), negitoro roll ($4.75), salmon sashimi ($12.50) and shimesaba sashimi ($12.50). A couple rolls had slightly too much rice but the sashimi was delicious.
Simple and fresh.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - 221224432075May 17, 2021
It is take out only for now but there are two small tables outside (2 chairs each) so you can eat there.
Wonderful service. As the shop could only accommodate 1 customer inside at a time, I waited outside at the table. The staff brought out my order which was unexpected. Since I was already seated, I decided to just eat there.
I devoured the chirashi don which was really good. I took the deluxe futomaki roll home.
I liked that it was a thin layer of rice for the chirashi don so i did not feel stuffed to the gills by the rice. It was a good portion to complement the seafood. I liked the variety of seafood which included tamago, tuna tataki, unagi and avocado. It will be perfect if Sakura denbu was added to the chirashi too.
I did not like futomaki when I was younger but I have since learnt to appreciate it. I prefer this deluxe version which adds unagi and prawn to it.
I will definitely get food here again if I am in the area.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Simon I.West Side, Vancouver, Canada1511Mar 30, 2024
Love this spot! Fresh, family run sushi bar. Consistently great tasting and affordable. Trio roll combo is a favourite.

Cozy family owned restaurant serving authentic Japanese dishes. As a pre-diabetic person, I am very happy to find a place where I can enjoy sushi with brown rice. Definitely will go back again and try one of their sushi platters next time.

I love the sushi here. The taste is very simple and not over loaded with sauce. I like their ebi salad roll and negitoro roll the most. The price is also very reasonable. Highly recommend!

cute, middle of nowhere little japanese restaurant that has been on my to try list for a long time and I ordered some take out to eat at garry point park! I tried out their spicy tuna roll, chopped scallop nigiri and a salmon nigiri. The rice was very well flavoured and chewy in all of the sushi and the salmon was fresh, fatty and delicious! The chopped scallop was very generous with the taste of fresh scallop shining through in each bite but a little bit over sauced. Similarily, the tuna in the spicy tuna roll was not fishy and tasted delicious but the spicy mayo made it very heavy. I enjoy lighter sushi and unfortunately, my choices were a little bit too much for me.
Overall, I will definitely return to try other dishes because of their reasonable prices, fresh fish, well flavoured rice and kind service!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 1076374227Jun 3, 2017Updated review
This Japanese restaurant is always the best in Richmond! No kidding here! It beats all other Japanese restaurants in the city. It is just far away from anywhere. I was happened in the neighbourhood doing stuff, so my boyfriend and I dropped by and had lunch here.
Man! Their sashimi was fresh. Sushi had the right amount of rice. Ramen tasted about right. Customer service was excellent. I really had no complaints about anything about this Japanese restaurant. If you happen to be in this neighbourhood or Steveston in Richmond, you need to drop by this restaurant and try their Japanese food.
There is always take out and customers dining in. The restaurant is always busy. I came here in 2015, 2016 and 2017. Their quality always remains well. I wish other Japanese restaurants in Great Vancouver would be like this one. :)Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Nov 22, 2015Previous reviewThis hidden Japanese sushi bar is very tiny. It is running by a small Japanese family with a husband, wife and daughter. They open every day except Sunday. Even though they open daily, they only operate from 11am to 2pm and 5pm to 8pm.
My boyfriend and I ordered a dinner special combo with salad and miso soup. The miso soup was excellent! Each piece of the sushi was like bite size. The fish was fresh. Also we ordered tuna tataki and shimesaba (pickled mackerel). Oh my goodness! They were extraordinary. They melted in my mouth. The miso ramen had a special miso soup base that was unique that could not be found in Vancouver.
The service was above average. The Japanese wife was running around to take care of customers who ordered take out and who ate in the restaurant. The prices of their food were reasonable.
I would love to eat their food every day if possible!
