It was late on a Sunday morning and my low tire pressure went off on my drive home from San Francisco. I pulled over to a gas station in SF and found a screw head in my tire. The gas station did not have a working air pump, so I looked up tire shops in SF and Walnut Creek. SF had none nearby, so I called Big O Tires since America's Tires was closed. Big O said to get there before 1 and he could get me in. So, I slowly drove to Big O in WC. He took a look and said the screw was too close to the sidewall and that I needed a new tire. He then took down the tire type, looked it up, said it was special, then wondered if he wrote down the correct number, went back out, corrected what he wrote down, looked it up again, said it was special and that he did not have it in stock, and that it would be Monday before he could do it. I almost bought the new tire then, but said I would buy it on Monday.

I then decided to take it to Wheel Works in WC. I'm glad that I did.

Matthew was working the front desk. He came out to look at my wheel, said it didn't look like the screw was in the sidewall, sprayed it with soapy water, and didn't see any bubbles. He took air pressure readings on all of the tires, and the one with the screw was fine. He then pulled the screw out and checked for a leak again. No bubbles. He had me pull into the garage and I aired up my tires. He said the tires usually lose a little over time and need to be aired up every so often. I think I currently need to air them up about once a year, usually in the fall after the tires have made it through the hotter summers.

Best of all...no charge! Thank you Wheel Works for totally turning that Sunday around.

I recently had an unfortunate experience at this tire shop, which I feel compelled to share. My visit was for a simple tire change service, but it resulted in significant damage to my car--a cracked and scratched front lip on my bumper. Despite the staff's initially friendly demeanor, their response to my concerns was disappointing. Upon contacting them to report the damage, the interaction turned confrontational, with a notable shift in tone. They warned me of complications should I decide to pursue a claim, asserting they had photographic evidence pre-service.

As someone deeply passionate about cars and who regularly documents my vehicle's condition on social media, I can assert with confidence that this damage occurred while in their care. This incident calls into question the shop's commitment to quality and accountability, contrasting sharply with the image they project.

My experience echoes the sentiments found in other negative reviews of this establishment, which I regret overlooking. To fellow car enthusiasts and customers seeking reliable service, I recommend exercising caution and considering alternative options.

I stopped by to get an estimate on new tire pressure sensors. I got an "off the top of my head" figure (that wasn't even close as it turned out) and a promise to call me to set up an appointment when they had the time to install the sensors.
I never got a call back and got the sensors installed at another location at a MUCH better price.

Solid experience getting two new tires put on my car after I inadvertently tore up the old ones on a curb on Saturday evening.

I got the car towed to Wheel Works in Walnut Creek as it was the only place open on Sunday within a five mile radius of my unfortunate mishap. I left the car parked outside but didn't leave the keys or a note, as the drop box didn't feel secure.

When I called on Sunday morning, they asked me to stop by with the car keys. When I arrived, they drove the car into the shop and inflated the tires to see if they could do a simple patch up. Alas, they were damaged beyond repair.

They gave me two options - inexpensive generic 40,000 mile tires ($80 each) or branded 60,000 mile tires ($176 each) designed for wet conditions. I went for the former option, but ended up getting the better ones as they didn't have them in stock! Total cost was a little under $500.

Staff is friendly (they let me use the bathroom), which I appreciated.

The repair took about four hours. There are coffee shops and restaurants within a ten minute walking distance so killing time wasn't a challenge.

      Check in and sitting area.

Had a low pressure tire, they fixed it for free. Came back to get my oil change and check up. The guy on the phone was friendly, told me about the deals they have. $150 for synthetic oil change, tire rotation, and general inspection is not bad. I've gone to Wheelworks in Daly City,CA and have always been happy with their service.

It was clear my tire was leaking, and it needed attention right away. I was able to drive to Wheel Works. The person who helped me was courteous, personable, and knowledgeable about what could be done. The process was paperless and easy, I left the car there and picked up when ready! I really appreciated the email updates, and the car got an inspection of some basic and important equipment and safety things while it was there, such as the brakes. So to sum up, great service with good prices. I'll be back!

I had an appointment. I came back 1.25 hours later and they still haven't started on my car! And, they're not that busy. Very poor customer service.

F¥ck this cheapo chain shithole! Nothing but crap service, every time!!! Paid for a lifetime alignment and every time the car pulls to the right anyway-possibly something else wrong? Hello! And they are rude as hell, ignore/disrespect all appointments, every time. I hate these SOBs so much!! And I have been going here for like 10 years because the one store in Vallejo is cool. POS. U get what you pay for-$15/hr jackasses monkeying around in your car. Good luck!

      Updated review

I wrote this review 4 months ago, but I proofread it and added details.

I am worried about my safety leaving this review because they have my information. While looking at my tires, the guy hinted at me to take my Bernie sticker out of my car, especially because I have a family. What? Who says that? He also made a sketchy comment about my last name.

I had a feeling not to come here because I saw the reviews, but I thought I had no choice on a Sunday with a flat. I wanted to get my car towed to the dealer, but this placd was recommended to me by the tow truck guy from AAA that was appearing of African descent, so I thought I could have trusted him.

My tire went flat overnight even though I pumped it full the night before. I didn't see any nails, so I thought it had to be cracked somewhere. When I called, this Wheel Works said they had time today and quoted me a low price. But, when I came in, he recommended the most expensive kind of my tire and that they could fit me in because they are busy. I had to pull nails to ask about the lowest cost tire without roadside assistance, which he didn't seem thrilled about. He said, "Just get the tires and leave?" He seemed to pretend to see what he could and seemed new on the computer. Then, he went to the back to figure something out. He found out, supposedly from his manager, that I had to pay cash in order to remove roadside assistance & other services. What? I told him I had trouble financially and had the nerve to lower the price only if I paid in cash. Didn't seem right.

I went back in after a lengthy decision-making to risk driving elsewhere on a bad tire to get serviced. When I requested to have an invoice printed out, he just wanted to show me on the screen instead. It showed the price that he said, but it took him a while to show me. At this point, I had too many red flag warnings in my head, and I started getting timeshare vibes, if you know what I mean. Like, I just had to get out of there. I went outside to "think about it" when I was actually scrambling to find somewhere else to go on Sunday. I had the decency to go back in and called out his name inside to see if he'd come out to tell him I'm leaving, but no one came. So, I left.

I would never recommend this place to anyone, even if it was the last tire store open on this Earth. I would learn to do it myself or start riding a bike everywhere.

My partner took his car to Wheel Works for an oil change, general checkup, and to check the rear brakes. We made an online appointment for 10am on Wednesday, when he arrived they didn't even know he had an appointment. They said to call them when you make an online appointment because multiple people can book the same time, which completely defeats the point of an online appointment system. They said that the appointment would take an hour and a half to 2 hours, and that they'd call him when it is ready.

2pm rolled around and there was no call, so he tried calling them twice and no one picked up. He called again at 4pm and they finally picked up. They said that the breaks are thin and that they'll need to be replaced and the car will have to stay overnight and "will be ready in the earlier half of the day" and cost $402 for everything (oil change, check up and breaks).

At 2pm the next day he has still not received a call from them, so he called them and they said they are putting the wheels back on the car and it should be ready by 2:30. At 2:45 he received a call stating that they PUT THE WRONG BREAKS ON! They said they ordered that right breaks and "made sure it's the right ones this time". It'll be ready by 10am the next morning.

At 11:30 the next day he gets a call that the car is ready for pickup, when we went to go pick it up they asked us for over $500 for everything. My partner said that's ridiculous and talked about the price he was given over the phone another wheel works employee (we think it was a manger) came out and raised his voice at us saying the correct price must not have come over the phone. The guy "generously" agreed to deduct the price of the oil change which still put the total a decent amount above what we were told over the phone. My partner reluctantly paid and we left the shop.

When we got in the car the parking break was off while parked on a hill. We then found out THE PARKING BREAK WAS NOT WORKING. My partner went back in the shop and a mechanic demanded the keys and said he was going to take car of it. The sped the car into the garage. After about 10 minutes we handed the keys and told we were good to go.

We will not be going back the Wheel Works Walnut Creek and strongly advise you trust the copious amount of negative reviews.
